*Post Week 10 DSFL Power Rankings - Thanksgiving Desserts Edition

With ISFL Power Rankings out of the way, it's time for the REAL rankings - the DSFL! We'll keep it Thanksgiving themed, but focus solely on desserts instead of entrees/sides.

1. London Royals (8-2)

Apple pie
Apple pie is hands down the best Thanksgiving dessert and I will not hear arguments to the contrary.  Throw on a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream and you've got a claim at the best dessert in history.  That's London right now, as they look to repeat as Ultimini champs.  They've got the league's best record and have to be the clear favorites right now.

2. Myrtle Beach Buccaneers (7-3)

Sweet potato pie

It's pumpkin pie's better, tastier, more delicious cousin.  The key is to make it without a meringue.  Sweet potato pie is not overly sweet, has a fantastic texture, and absolutely screams Thanksgiving.  It's not quite as good as apple, but it's right on its heels, much like how Myrtle Beach is just behind London.  The Bucs have a stranglehold on the South and have one of the most complete rosters in the league.  Ultimini in their future?

3. Kansas City Coyotes (6-4)

Spice cake

Kansas City is spice cake in our rankings, which is nothing to sneeze at.  It's warm, fully autumnal, and delicious.  Whether it's with a nice cup of coffee or just to cap off a tasty Thanksgiving meal, it's the King of Cakes this time of year.  The Coyotes have the curse of playing in the North, otherwise their record would be even better.  Regardless, this team is a bonafide contender for a postseason run.

4. Portland Pythons (5-5)

Pumpkin pie

So maybe I've got pumpkin pie too low, but it's hard for me to move it above the top three in my list. Portland suffers from the same problem as Kansas City - if they were in the South, they might be in front by multiple games.  But they've got a +44 point differential and are rounding into form down the stretch.  Will they take home the Ultimini behind LBJ III this year?

5. Minnesota Grey Ducks (5-5)

Pecan pie

Stop me if you've heard this before, but Minnesota is stuck in the tough side of the league and, like Portland, features a rising star rookie quarterback. They're right in the thick of the playoff hunt, but need to hunker down to make a run.  Pecan pie is good, but you have to pace yourself as its sweetness can be too much for some.  Likewise, Minnesota needs to stick to its guns, stay patient, and get the job done over the final few games. 

6. Tijuana Luchadores (4-6)

Carrot cake
Carrot cake isn't bad, but there's just something about the texture and cream cheese frosting that doesn't quite do it for me.  Similarly, Tijuana seems like they're just a bit off this year and will have to really get hot to make the playoffs.  They're not bad, per se, but just haven't quite gotten it all together this year.

7. Dallas Birddogs (3-7)

I do not like cheesecake.  When it comes to Thanksgiving desserts, it hardly gets worse than that.  Which is where Dallas comes in - if not for my beloved Seawolves, Dallas would be in the basement as this flavored cheesecake.  But it's hard to blame the Birddogs entirely.  This is more of a situation of other teams being better rather than Dallas being bad. 

8. Norfolk Seawolves (2-8)

Let's be real.  Norfolk is bad this season.  If we were a baker, we probably could only manage to make oreo turkeys with our current skillset, as that doesn't really require anything other than a moderate IQ and opposable thumbs.  We're the dessert that kindergarteners can make.  We're just...bad.   Oreos are good, though.

Gotta admit, I scrolled as far as the first team and saw that pumpkin pie wasn't number one and skipped the entire article because it was invalidated by a flawed ratings system.


Pumpkin pie is THE Thanksgiving dessert. Full stop. The top spot starts and ends with pumpkin pie.


Note: if you're a Canadian and try telling me that up in Canadaland they eat something else on Thanksgiving, save it. This is Murica.
