With Season 25 of the ISFL upon us, it is time to introduce you all to the newest Yellowknife Wraiths, and let them tell you a little about themselves.
In the first round, with the fourth pick, Yellowknife drafted wide receiver Arthur Naught. Foster played college football at the University of Pennsylvania. Afterwards, he was drafted by the Kansas City Coyotes. In his one season with the Pythons, Foster had 63 receptions for 720 yards and 1 touchdown. Standing 6 ft. 2 in., and weighing in at 215 lbs, the Wraiths hope Naught can step into the role as one of their starting receivers right away.
1. Congratulations on being drafted into the ISFL! How did it feel hearing your name called on draft night?
It was wild, very exciting. I had a lot of good talks with a lot of good teams, but I wasn’t sure where I’d end up. To go 4th overall is a big honour and big excitement, and I could be happier to go to Yellowknife. This is a legit team with some awesome players already, so the chance to contribute here is big. Loved every minute of draft night and looking forward to this next season as a Wraith.
2. Which team did you think would draft you? Were you surprised that Yellowknife was the team to pick you?
I chatted with scouts from a lot of really good teams and had a lot of really good conversations. I’d say there were a half dozen or so cities that I would’ve been excited to end up, but Yellowknife was one of the top destinations. I really jived with the conversation and think I can help the team accomplish some big things for the ISFL. So not surprised, but definitely excited.
3. Were you surprised with where you were picked in the draft? Do you think you should have been picked higher (or lower)?
I’d say pleasantly surprised for sure. There’s so many good prospects this season that to go 4th overall is definitely something I hadn’t assumed, although I’d say considering the chats I had with Yellowknife it was a spot on the draft order I was eyeing as a potential landing. Honestly the first round, and the second, is so packed with good talent that I didn’t envy the work of the scouts or general managers. Really happy how it worked out though.
4. What are you most looking forward to this season?
Working with Colby, getting to know the team up here in Yellowknife, I think really starting to learn the routes and the plays up here. Really start to make this place home, since I don’t expect to be leaving any time soon and I can’t wait to see what damage we can do on the field.
5. Do you feel any pressure to live up to the high standards of Wraiths team?
I’d say excitement over pressure. Not every prospect gets the chance to come into an ISFL locker room that is as storied and just awe-worthy as the Wraiths. Good teams come with high standards, and I landed on a good team. I’m looking forward to the challenges that come with that.
6. What are your first impressions of the Wraiths locker room? Have any players or coaches made a particular impression on you?
Man the locker room is a lot of fun. I’ve already really enjoyed coming up to the Yellowknife LR and connecting with some people I know and getting to know some others better. Anywhere with a spooky beer swap is a place I want to be. I know a number of the faces around, and I’m really looking forward to getting to know the rest. It’s a well managed team too and I’ve got lots of faith in Fly and Money.
7. Looking beyond this season, what do you hope to accomplish in your career?
Team success is where it’s at. I’m here to bring an Ultimus to Yellowknife sometime in my career, that’s my only field-related goal.
8. You have to take the stage for the rookie talent show in front of the locker room, what talent do you show off?
Definitely something lame. My talents are not astonishing or interesting. I’d probably try to do something very wild, like juggling knives, and YouTube it like 20 minutes before hand, and end up horribly injuring myself.
9. Who would win in a fight between a baboon or a badger?
My agent says I should avoid answering this question so I’m not involved in whatever this is.
10. When your first ISFL contract pay check comes in what's the first purchase you're going to make? Something sensible or a fancy car?
Actually a big fan of the casino, so I’d be a degenerate and go lay some money. Since it’s not illegal for us to put those sweet sweet sim dollars on our own league, I’d be hitting the ISFL casino for some of those game lines.
With pick number twelve, the Wraiths drafted linebacker Leonard Taylor. Taylor played college football at THE Ohio State University. After playing there, Taylor was drafted by the DSFL Bondi Beach Buccaneers. In his first season on the Buccaneers, Taylor had 108 tackles, 1 forced fumble & recovery, 1 interception, and 2 pass deflections. Taylor is 6 ft. 4 in. tall and weighs 255 lbs, and will again play linebacker for Bondi Beach in the upcoming DSFL season.
1. Congratulations on being drafted into the ISFL! How did it feel hearing your name called on draft night?
It felt great! After a week or so of discussions and mocks drafts, it was finally nice to figure out where I was headed.
2. Which team did you think would draft you? Were you surprised that Yellowknife was the team to pick you?
I’m not surprised it was Yellowknife but I’m surprised they traded back up to get me. I never really knew where I would be taken but I’m glad they recognized I was falling in the draft and traded back up to get me. Yellowknife was on my short list of teams I had a great conversation with.
3. Were you surprised with where you were picked in the draft? Do you think you should have been picked higher (or lower)?
Personally I thought I was going to go higher but I get that linebackers can fall due to need. I was surprised I went 3rd in my position group.
4. What are you most looking forward to this season?
I’m most looking forward to getting back to the playoffs to avenge our first round exit from last season. I can’t go out that way.
5. Do you feel any pressure to live up to the high standards of Wraiths team?
No expectations for me, considering I’m the second pick for this team. I think the pressure will be on the guys in front of me to outperform me because I’m going to make sure they remember what they missed skipping over me
6. What are your first impressions of the Wraiths locker room? Have any players or coaches made a particular impression on you?
Fly is someone I know from the PBE so we immediately hit it off. A couple of their players are leaders in my Buccaneers locker room.
7. Looking beyond this season, what do you hope to accomplish in your career?
I’d love to become the all time sack leader for, not only the Wraiths but, the entire league
8. You have to take the stage for the rookie talent show in front of the locker room, what talent do you show off?
Dancing. I’m light in my feet and very nimble. It’s one of the ways I stay in shape in the offseason and work on conditioning.
9. Who would win in a fight between a baboon or a badger?
Badger. No questions asked
10. When your first ISFL contract pay check comes in what's the first purchase you're going to make? Something sensible or a fancy car?
My dad is already loaded so I’ll probably get some nice jewelry and a nice car. Have to look good to play good.
With pick twenty-nine, in the third round, the Wraiths traded all of their remaining picks to move up and draft Linebacker Big Slammu. Slammu, who did not play college football, weighs in at 265 lbs and 6 ft., 5 in. Slammu just finished his first season for the DSFL Dallas Birddogs, where he racked up 97 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 forced fumble, 4 sacks and 6 pass deflections. Slammu will be called up to play linebacker for the Wraiths this upcoming season.
We reached out to Slammu for this article, but his agent informed me that he was on vacation and would not be available until the season began.
After talking with the players, I sat down with Patrik Money, Wraiths General Manager, who was ecstatic about this draft:
“We went into this draft knowing we’d get a star at #4 overall. What we didn’t know was that we would be getting 3 stars at absolutely insane value. All 3 of them were steals at their draft spots and we couldn’t have asked for a better draft. All of these guys are sure-fire 1st rounders and if it hadn’t been for positional needs, Slammu would have been gone way before we managed to grab him. Art rightfully won DSFL MDM and is already getting stuck in with the team as a new create which is something every team loves to see. We had great scouting with LT and his pedigree from PBE shows.
We got a nicely balanced trio of experienced ISFL user, experienced affiliate user and new user and all of them with great activity and will fit in well to the team. We’re really excited to watch these guys develop into superstar players as well as users.”
Well folks, that is it for this season’s edition of “Meet the newest Yellowknife Wraiths.” Thanks for joining us, and we hope that you’ll be on hand for the season opener. at a time and place to be determined. Until then stay Spooky ladies and gentlemen!
