12 weeks of DSFL action are in the books and the deadline for the double media is coming up so I decided to write a little something to try and cash in a bit more. Normally I’d wait until the end of the regular season to do this review, but you’ve got to strike while the money is there (or something along those lines…). Here’s my review of all the S27 running backs so far.
The sim and team strategies play a big part on how these rookies were used and it was interesting to see how well they all did this season. What’s even more interesting is that the top teams in the DSFL so far haven’t relied upon running as much as I thought they would. For example, Portland has an 11-1 record and is only 4th in the league for rushing offense. Bondi Beach and Dallas both have veteran DSFL running backs leading their teams.
Nevertheless, I think some of the top running backs in this class have made a significant impact on their team this season and have earned an impressive amount of TPE in that time. Now let’s get started!
Madison Hayes – 267 TPE
The leading Minnesota rusher tops the list of running backs and is probably the first to come off the board with a significant lead in TPE above his peers. In 12 games, Hayes has only 4 touchdowns but Minnesota doesn’t appear to be as reliant on the run game with quarterback Ryan Negs at the helm so it’s not surprising. Hayes is very efficient though with a 4.9 yards per carry average and is close to breaking the 1,000 rushing yard mark before the end of the season. He’s the top prospect in the upcoming draft for sure.
Xander Creed – 245 TPE
Kansas City has had an awful season at 1-11, but their bright spot-on defense is Xander Creed. So far he’s earned 7 touchdowns and 1060 rushing yards with a 4.3 average yard per carry. Xander is another top user as well and may actually surprise some folks if he’s the first running back off the board. He’s a fun reason to watch Kansas City and he’s pretty much a shoo-in for top 2 running backs picked.
Ace Savage – 204 TPE
The backup to the infamous Mr. Forty-Two, the rookie running back sits just above the rest of the middle of the pack in this draft class. He’s got 7 touchdowns and 911 rushing yards with a 4.4 average yards per carry. Not overly impressive in the season so far, he’s still got a lot to go before he can break 1,000 yards at the end of the season. He’ll probably be the 4th or 5th running back selected in the upcoming draft since the middle of the pack is so close.
Preston Parker – 198 TPE
Parker and his cohort, Drip Dad, firmly in the middle of the running backs in terms of TPE and the pair have made a decent duo. Parker is splitting carries almost evenly with Drip Dad, but hasn’t seen the end zone much this season with only 2 touchdowns. He’s got a tad more yardage than his teammate at 953 rushing yards this season.
Drip Dad – 192 TPE
The other half running back tag team in Tijuana, Drip Dad isn’t as efficient as Parker. He has found the end zone 5 times this season and is a strong receiver with 1 touchdown and 171 receiving yards to his name. He’s an impressive and versatile back and I think he’ll shine in the new ISFL sim if he sticks with the receiving back archetype.
Giovanni Bianchi – 145 TPE
At the bottom of the middle pack, Bianchi has some TPE ground to make up to get to the ISFL. As a backup to Christiansen, Bianchi has 633 rushing yards and 1 touchdown so far which is pretty decent given how heavily Portland uses Christiansen and the passing game. Out of the prospects on this list, Bianchi has the best chance at seeing the Ultimini game and probably win it considering the strength of their offense and an impressive defensive core. The Italian speedster is very active on the forums and I think he’d be a good pick for any ISFL team looking to replace a running back in the next 2 seasons.
Massimo Rocco – 86 TPE
This is where we start to see the edge of the cliff for the top running back prospects. Rocco hasn’t been seen in over 2 months and will probably be a DSFL lifer at this point along with the rest of the bottom here. This user will definitely be sent back to the DSFL.
Hehe Jamison – 57 TPE
Hasn’t been on since December 10th and inactive. This user will definitely be sent back to the DSFL. Not much else to say here.
Tahj Glover – 50 TPE
Hasn’t been on since November 29th and inactive. This user will definitely be sent back to the DSFL. Not much else to say here. Probably going to be dropped if a DSFL team can draft anyone active in the next season or two.
My predictions on running backs off the draft board:
1. Madison Hayes
2. Xander Creed
3. Preston Parker
4. Ace Savage
5. Drip Dad
6. Giovanni Bianchi
7. Massimo Rocco
8. Hehe Jamison
9. Tahj Glover
So there you have it! I probably won’t be writing another one of these until after the ISFL draft and try and compare how I did with my predictions. I think the class is decent given the smaller size and less number of recreates. It’ll be interesting to see next season and how big that class gets so I’ll probably do a preseason review of those running backs since we have got some impressive users coming back as running back (Busch Goose comes to mind). I am really excited to see the next class if there’s a big recruitment effort since we’ll have a lot more prospects to talk about for S28.
