Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve done an interview with somebody on the site. Tonight we have my buddy @Hordle here to do one with us! He’s an offensive lineman on the Minnesota Grey Ducks, where I’m a GM. Last ISFL draft, he was selected by my Chicago Butchers. He’s a really funny, cool guy, and I know that there are a lot of you who are missing out by not knowing him. So let’s get to know him a little better, shall we?
Question: How do you feel about your ISFL experience so far?
Answer: “It’s been great. People have been super helpful and friendly. I’ve made quite a few friends and it’s been an awesome experience. From being drafted in the DSFL and watching the Ducks go from MEH to the Playoffs was great. My second season is going better for me with my stats so hopefully just gonna keep that rolling.
Response: I agree, seeing the Grey Ducks make a huge turnaround after your draft class was awesome. We went from holding the number one pick to being a playoff team in one season, and you were a big part of that! You’ve been a great Duck and we’re lucky to have you on the team. I’m super excited that we get to continue our partnership in the future, with both of us playing for the Chicago Butchers, once you get the call up.
Question: Why did you choose to play offensive line?
Answer: “Big men don’t get enough love. I was a bit nervous coming in. Wasn’t sure how much info was shared and what people looked for in certain positions. So I just went with OL, it’s what I played when I was younger and it’s fun to watch a BIG MAN push around another BIG MAN. OLINE BEST LINE! It’s been super fun to kinda hype up a position that doesn’t get much love off the field. Coming up with taglines and just acting like a big personality. With my next create I’ll probably go RB or defense But this isn’t my last OL player for sure.”
Response: I also chose my position, cornerback, because that’s what I played when I was younger. I think that offensive line is a cool position to play in the sim since it has a big impact, and people have proven it. Also, all of you offensive linemen have a kind of brotherhood that people at other positions don’t really have. I mean, you guys even have your own Discord server, the Fair Rub Club haha.
Question: When Minnesota drafted you, they considered asking you to switch positions to the defensive line. Looking back at that now, how would you have felt about that?
Answer: “It would have been fine. While I like being Offensive line and preferred to stay it. I would have done whatever the team needed. That’s been my answer to this question every time. Which I guess some people interpret as “ONLY OLINE” but it is what it is. Defense is cool and I would have been fine on either side.”
Response: Cool, I was just curious if you had grown more attached to the offensive line over time. I know that I didn’t want to switch, for whatever reason, when I was entering the drafts. But yeah, now I’ve taken on the same stance as you. I’d like to be a cornerback for the rest of my career, but if Chicago desperately needs help somewhere else, I’ll be more than happy to make the switch.
Question: Obviously the Grey Ducks are number one (at least I hope so), but are there any other DSFL teams you would have liked to have played for?
Answer: “Portland or London were high on my list. Mostly just cause I spent so long talking to them. Mag and ABH are both cool guys and make London a really inviting place. And South and zEagle have a way of making people wanna play in Portland.”
Response: Even though the London Royals have broken my heart time and time again (it’s ridiculous how many times, really), they are still my second favorite DSFL team. They’re supposed to be our rivals, and they are, but they just have such fun people running the show and on the team! Abh always helps me with EPIC RPG so I’ve seen how nice he is (even though he’s a Gators fan… GO DAWGS), and I know Mag well from our time together with the Chicago Butchers, so I can attest to how awesome he is. Portland is cool too! I’ve talked to South quite a bit more, but zEagle is cool too from what I’ve seen. I really should know zEagle better, since he’s joined the two of us on the Quebec City Citadelles in the SMJHL!
Question: What’s your favorite food that most people don’t like?
Answer: “Pasta with Ketchup on it. Apparently it’s a Swedish thing according to my girlfriend. But I’ve eaten it since I was a wee lad. I love it and I really can’t tell you why. People have always questioned it and when I was younger. But now I just eat it anyway and I love it.”
Response: Oh. Wow. Well, I can’t say that I’ve ever had that. And honestly I can’t say that I think I’d like it. It sounds like one of those things that you don’t realize is weird until someone tells you it’s weird, haha. At least dinner can be cheap if you need it to be!
Question: What’s your most controversial sports take?
Answer: “Uh Slavin and Hamilton are the best defensive pairing in the NHL.”
Response: I wish that I knew how hot of a take this was, but unfortunately I know next to nothing about hockey. I kind of want to get into watching the sport though, because it’s kind of like a mixture of football and basketball, in a way. It’s got the faster pace that basketball has (plus you’re shooting at a net in both, I guess), and it has the physicality of football. And I love those two sports, so you would think hockey would be a solid match for me, but I just haven’t been able to get into it yet for some reason. Maybe someday.
Question: Next season, you will most likely be called up to the Chicago Butchers, who are currently starting four human offensive linemen and one bot. This means that, if called up, you will be the missing piece to the first all human offensive line that the league has seen in a very long time, possibly ever. How do you feel about being part of The Great Wall of Chicago next season?
Answer: “I’m super excited. I wanted to be part of an all human OL and now that’s gonna happen. Plus I get to continue to annoy Evok, Flex, Bayley and Enigy. It’s great. I can’t wait to win Ships until I retire. That’s what’s gonna happen.”
Response: Annoying Bayley is one of my all time favorite pastimes, if I’m being honest. It’s cool that we have so many teammates in Chicago that are also teammates on the Quebec City Citadelles of the SMJHL haha. I for one, can’t wait to see the all human offensive line in action. It’s a marvel of the league, and I know that other offensive linemen around the league are excited to see it happen, even if they aren’t even a part of it.
Hordle, thank you very much for taking the time to do this interview with me. It’s been a blast, and now the people of the ISFL will know the name Alexander Hordle. Now go get back to the sled, Negs won’t stop complaining about taking hits.
