Hey folks, Ithica Hawk here presenting the second of what I hope will be a few Limited Edition ISFL Team themed polyhedral dice sets.
Each set is hand made by me (Ithica Hawk). I decided to make Austin Copperheads dice second (after the Chicago Butchers set here) because they are my current team and I think they have a great colour scheme.
First off, the finished product:

For this set I decided to channel the 'Copper' in 'Copperheads'. I didn't have a suitable alcohol ink to dye the resin this colour so I had to do some mixing of blue, yellow and a smidge of green. This is a tricky process as adding more alcohol ink to resin makes it less likely to cure fully so you can't just keep adding it until the colour is right. You can mix the inks seperate but since we're talking like 2/3 drops (max) of any one colour that's a bit tricky. To make this set opaque I added some shell pigment powder. I then poured the two colours side-by-side into the molds and gave them a little swirl with a toothpick to get a nice blend as the two layers meet.
As I mentioned in my Butchers dice post, o make these, first off I cast master molds using a platinum cure silicone rubber around 3D printed dice masters. The molds I made are two part molds (sometimes called cap molds. Here is what the mold looks like: https://i.imgur.com/sOLlNR9.mp4
I think the colour came out great and really looks like a rusted copper. The second picture is them fresh out the molds. As with the butchers set, there are some imperfections. These can be touched up with UV resin if I choose to (but I'd have to buy that and a UV torch to cure them) which I may do at some point in the future.
The first picture shows how they look with some of the numbers inked. I did some manual sanding/polishing of the D6 to show the 'snakeskin' texture that came out (you can see it especially well on the 1 side of the D6). I chose a bronze paint because it fits with the colour scheme.
One of the issues with casting at ambient pressure is air bubbles inevitably get into resin during the mixing process. You can do a bunch to _reduce_ the amount of air but you can't stop it. These bubbles, if you're lucky, rise up and you can burn them off with a lighter to remove most of them before you pour but there will always be some. One solution to this is casting at around 35-40 PSI inside a pressure vessel. I don't currently have one of these but I'm planning to. In theory, casting in a pressure vessel would give basically perfect dice so I'm excited to perhaps remake some of these ISFL dice in a couple of months should I get myself a pot.
As before, I hope you find this interesting. Feel free to ask questions about the process and suggest what teams I should do next. I've been asked to do Hahalua and NOLA so I think I'll be tackling those at some point soon..
Also, repeated message to media graders, you should totally have an ISFL Arts & Crafts tier alongside podcasts/words/etc. Encourage people to make things. I'd love to see more crafted things here and learn about them/how they were made.
