It’s the end of an era. For me, at least. It comes with a bit of a heavy heart that I announce that Chicago Butchers cornerback Tyron Shields’ professional football career is coming to an end. This will be his last season as a player in the International Simulation Football League. He consistently underperformed, with his peak season coming in his rookie season, but he is still near and dear to my heart. He’s my first sim league player ever, how could I not be a little bit attached to him? He may not have had much luck getting the job done on the field, but he put in plenty of work off the field, reaching a 1300 TPE peak. That’s not bad for an 11th round pick! At the time of writing this, Shields is #2 in tackles all time in Chicago with 687 of them (good enough for #64 all time in the entire league in tackles), #2 in Passes Defended with 93, #6 in interceptions, tied for #4 in forced fumbles, and tied for #3 in fumble recoveries. He was nominated for Defensive Rookie of the Year in his rookie season, S23 along with making the Pro Bowl that season. Maybe he can rack up a few more in this final season. More stats would’ve been nice, but I’m just happy to have accomplished so much on my first player. One of my biggest goals was to be the steal of the draft, and even if you think that this isn’t true, he’s certainly a steal of the draft. In my eyes, I accomplished one of my biggest goals for my player. This player was like a gateway into making countless friendships that I’m going to have for years to come. He’s also proof that every draft pick you make, regardless of the round, has some chance to make an impact on your team, as an 11th round pick in the ISFL and a 21st round pick in the DSFL. So don’t count out those late round picks. It’s a bit sad letting him go, I can’t lie, but I’m excited for a new beginning with my next player. Maybe this one will have more of an impact on the field, and help to finally bring an Ultimus to the Chicago Butchers!
