Bruce Buckley made his way to the podium after his Yellowknife Wraith’s picked up a 30-17 win over the Orange County Otters to move 7-5 on the season. During this game, Buckley picked up a career high 16 pancakes which moved him past the Chicago Butchers tackle Givussafarre Rubbe on the all time career pancake list for human offensive lineman. Here’s what he had to say:
“I can’t believe this has happened. I’ve been keeping an eye on that tally but I didn’t believe it. Even as I crawled closer and closer to the top, I never thought this day would come. Especially while Rubbe is still playing. It’s been a long 7 and a half seasons and to have this honour already secured while I have plenty left in the tank is a surreal experience.
Firstly, I just want to thank Givussafarre Rubbe, he was an icon for me as I was playing in the DSFL for Myrtle Beach. He was what I was looking up to, what I was striving to be and to be standing here having overtaking this living legend is beyond what I thought to be possible. I was fully expecting for this day to be further in the future, and for it to be well after Rubbe’s has hung up his cleats. I wanted Rubbe to be here standing beside me, not on the field at the same time. I finally had the opportunity to play alongside this legend during the past offseason, as we represented our DSFL alma mater in the Alumni tournament. Playing next to him in the trenches while representing the green and purple of the beach was one of my career highlights alongside today. When I eventually hang up my own boots, I can’t wait to enter the Hall of Fame as the 2nd ever full-time offensive lineman to be immortalised, right after Rubbe.
Next, I want to thank Simon Tremblay. Simon is one of the most beloved and underrated players in this league. He hasn’t won many awards but he is consistently one of the best offensive lineman in this league. During my season at Myrtle Beach, playing next to Simon taught me what I had to do to get better in this league. When we went on to capture the Ultimini at the end of that season, we were also the 2 that stayed out partying for the next week which was one of my favourite moments in my career. Simon deserves more praise then he gets and should be regarded as one of the greatest lineman of this revived generation.
Finally, I want to thank everyone else that I have crossed on this path. From my former offensive lineman teammates Doug Quail, Maurice Virtanen and Calvin Golladay to the other great teammates I have had along the way. These include the legendary quarterbacks Jay Cue and Colby Jack as well as other great friends and teammates like Heath Evans, Kai Sakura, Zee Reechs and the multitude of other players that have crossed paths. I also want to thank the General Managers that drafted me, traded me and traded for me. I hope I have repaid the faith you took in drafting me or trading for me as well as helping me achieve this result today which stands as one of the best in my career.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Before I go, let me just recap my career:
- I am a 2 time Ultimus champion with the Yellowknife Wraiths in Season 26 and Season 28.
- I am a 7 time pro-bowler and have never missed one in my career so far. I am also currently on track to add another one to my list even though the recent rule changes have made this unfairly harder.
- I have won 2 Offensive Lineman of the Year Awards, in Season 23 for the Arizona Outlaws and Season 26 for the Yellowknife Wraiths.
- I am now top of the pancake standing for all human offensive lineman
- I am 3rd in the postseason pancake standing for all humans.
- I have the franchise record for pancakes in the Yellowknife Wraiths
- I have the 3rd most pancakes for humans for the Arizona Outlaws.
- I have the 2nd highest pancakes in a single game for humans with 16.
- I have 6 of the 7 highest pancake games by humans in the Yellowknife Wraiths history.
- I have the 3 greatest pancake seasons in Yellowknife Wraith history.
- I have the second greatest pancake game by a human in postseason history.
- I have the greatest pancake postseason in league history in Season 28.
And most of all…
I’m not done yet. “
