Quarterly Review:
Every four games Bill likes to take time away from the daily grind to reflect and review his performances for each game. It is a process which allows Bill to grow as a player, learn from his mistakes, and speak about his goals for future games. Without further ado, I present Bill’s Quarterly review of his first four games of Season 31 of the ISFL, which also happens to be his rookie year with his team, the Orange County Otters.
Week 1 vs Austin Copperheads:
Our game against the Copperheads is one I will never forget. Aside from the preseason, this was going to be my first game in the big leagues. I remember the night before I couldn’t even sleep both because I was so excited and nervous. Next thing I know it’s game day and I’m heading to the stadium. Running out of the tunnel into a full crowded stadium for the first time was an unforgettable experience. I couldn’t believe how many people would be watching me play and it fired me up. When the game started I was on fire. I was one of the leading tacklers that game and made a lot of clutch tackles that helped keep us in the game. Unfortunately it was not enough as we ended up losing in the end. Even though we lost, I felt so happy just knowing that I was able to hang with the pros. I no longer felt like I didn’t belong and that the competition was too much because I had a great game and even a couple of tackles for losses. It was definitely a great way to introduce myself into the league. Needless to say I had a big party at my house later that night and invited all of Rainey Street. We got a keg of Alamo Beer and I did a couple of keg stands. No one could believe I would play as well as I did. But all the hard work that I had been putting in the weight room has been paying off and I couldn’t wait for my next game.
Week 2 at Honolulu Hahalua
Our game versus Honolulu was a very interesting one. And mostly due to reasons outside of the game. It was my first time I had ever been to Hawaii and I was blow away by the beauty of the island. A few players on the team caught wind of the fact that it was my first time on the islands and wanted to show me a good time. So they all kidnapped me and took me to a strip club. I couldn’t believe how thick some of the islander women were but for some reason the bigger they were the more attractive I found them. Anyways the next thing I know it was an hour until the game started so we rushed over to the stadium and got ready for warmups. Hungover and still tired from the night before, most of the team could barely move out there. I myself had a bad game and felt I was hurting the team. If there’s anything I’ve learned it’s this, don’t sleep on the thick islander women. They will rock your world! The day after the game, the team took a trip to the beach and we had some fun surfing. I was too big for the small boards so I road a long board and had a great time soaking up the sun in paradise. Afterward we got ready to head to the airport for the flight back. Our coach spent the entire flight yelling at us for not being ready for the game, but honestly I couldn’t care less. No regrets here, Hawaii was a blast!
Week 3 vs Arizona Outlaws
Our week 3 game was a doozie. We were playing against the highly touted Outlaws and they had several outstanding offensive weapons so I knew our defense was in for a war. Both teams were battling neck and neck all game and the defenses were making huge stops all day. It was a low scoring game, but in the end we were able to grind it out for a win. I was my first win in the ISFL and it couldn’t have come against a better team. Everyone was counting us out all week, especially after our loss to Honolulu, but we were able to prove everyone wrong and overcome immense obstacles to secure the win. On the individual level, I played pretty well and even made some key tackles when it mattered most. To celebrate my first win as a pro football player, my best friend Hank took me out to celebrate at The Panhandler Steakhouse. Although it was really nice for Hank to offer to pay for my meal, I couldn’t let him do that. So instead, I ordered their 72oz steak and competed in their steak eating contest. All I had to do was eat the entire steak and the meal would be free. Needless to say, I finished the steak with 15 minutes left in the challenge. I think I could’ve eaten two of those steaks that night, I was so hungry and pumped up from the win earlier that day. First win of the year baby let’s go!
Week 4 vs Colorado Yeti
Coming off a big win the week before, I came into this game fired up to keep the momentum going. The game went back and forth all day, it was a tough battle. The defense made one last big stop at the end of the game to give the offense a chance to win the game. Unfortunately the Yeti defense stepped up and gave us our third loss of the season. Truthfully no other loss had bothered me as much as this one did. I felt I have it my all but my stats didn’t not reflect a good game. All of my friends could tell I was taking the loss pretty badly so they decided to try to help take my mind off the game. They all came over to my house that night and brought over a few 6 packs of Alamo and some fat blunts that Boomhauer had rolled himself. Never in my life had I ever turned down a chance to smoke a Boomhauer rolled blunt and I wasn’t about to start that night, no matter how down in the dumps I was feeling. And boy did we smoke, by the time we were finishing the last blunt it was already noon the next day and Hank was bitching about not cutting his lawn earlier that morning. He was seriously ruining m vibe so I kicked him out while me Boomhauer and Dale finished the last blunt. Hank was all butt-hurt but I didn’t care. It was a good night after all.
