Ian Bavitz, LB and Cecil Otter, Otters GM here to answer (or evade) all questions about S2 and the Otters future.
For Cecil:
1. You have the two fastest linebackers in the NSFL, what do you do to take advantage of that talent?
Our speedy linebackers help us in a plethora of ways, the most obvious way is getting after the quarterback. A defense will never be successful in this league if they can't get hats on the quarterback. Secondly, they're LBs, so they don't have the greatest hands, but they're at least speedy enough to cover TEs and RBs out of the backfield, as well as many of the slot receivers. Keeping the middle of the field safe is a good way to force 3-and-outs. We're planning on ramping up some exotic schemes, it's going to be a lot of fun, at least for us.
2. That said, outside of Harris and Ian, your LB corps is a bit shallow. Do you plan to address that through FA or the draft.
While it's true we don't have a third actual linebacker, I'd say we're far from shallow. Dominic Verns has been filling in as our weakside backer, and if you look at the stats he's had a hell of a season. I can't comment on free agency as it hasn't begun yet and I dom't want to tamper, I also don't want to talk much about the draft, as we don't want to show our hand early. Just know that we're looking at all the scenarios possible, the Otters have a plan and we're going to do our damnedest to improve where we can.
3.. Your team played the Outlaws close in the playoffs, is there anything you could have done differently to put your team over the top?
You mean like not calling two run plays on a drive starting at your own 20-yard line with less than 2 minutes left in the game and down by 4? Yeah, we've spoken with the offensive coordinators and a lot of the bonehead play calls shouldn't happen next season. We also had some struggles in the field-position game, we're working on fixing that as well.
For Ian:
1. You, Franklin and Dominic run a 100m dash, who wins?
We're all speed-demons, so I think it'd be pretty close, might need an instant replay up in the booth for that one. That said, I'd like to think I'd do pretty well.
2. Is there anything you want to say to the Otters' rookies who may be leaving the team in a few days?
I'd just want to thank them for all the hard work this season, they definitely helped turn our season around from our rough start. We'll miss them in the locker room if we're unable to hang on to them through the draft, those snail races were some good times.
3. How do you feel about flannel?
I'm personally not a huge fan of it myself, my beard doesn't quitr say 'lumberjack', it more says 'homeless'. I'll probably stick with my white tees and hats.
