With Season 3 heading into its final stretch, teams across the league will be looking to their top skill position players to carry their offense and put them into playoff position. The Tight End position group as a whole hasn't changed much from last year, save the notable absence of Ricky Maddox. There is a grouping of three top end TEs now featuring rookie Charlie Law, then the usual suspects that have carved out a journeyman career, then the rest of the pack. Here's how it all breaks down:
-----
1.) George Wright Jr. - Otters
|| Rec: 45 || Yards: 340 || TDs: 3 || Pancakes: 18 ||
Wright continues to be the low gear for this Otters passing offense that is 800 yards and 7 touchdowns ahead of the next best thing. Wright's season has been much more consistent than S2; however while he has been able to produce 40+ yard games more often we have yet to see any of the 10-12 reception games that helped Wright break the receptions record. On the other hand his receiving average has gone way up to 7.6 yards per catch, a figure that is far from competitive against the league's speed hungry WRs but still shows George is getting downfield and making impact plays more often. As a blocker we continue to see more of the same from Wright, he leads the position despite once again poor rushing across the league. The competition is close behind though, Wright will need to stay sharp down the coming 4 game road stretch to keep his lead.
2.) Paul DiMirio - Liberty
@124715
|| Rec: 40 || Yards: 362 || TDs: 2 || Pancakes: 13 ||
If there's one player at TE who can suddenly go off and propel himself to the forefront it's Philly's sophomore stud Paul DiMirio. We got a preview of DiMirio's elite playmaking ability last season as he was able to put up back to back 100 yard games to nearly capture the TE receiving record. With the Liberty only a half game behind the Wraiths for the #2 playoff spot in the NSFC, the coaches would love to see some of that magic right about now. DiMirio has been a mediocre blocker this season, but that is still a significant improvement over his S2 performance which was abysmal. If he can stay consistent and avoid being targeted for easy sacks, you may very well see him at the top of this list at the season's end.
3.) Charlie Law - Outlaws
@AdamS
|| Rec: 34 || Yards: 268 || TDs: 3 || Pancakes: 16 ||
Without getting into the fact that Law is playing on the Outlaws which is absurd, this has been an excellent draft pick by Arizona to address one of the few holes left on their roster. Law has had a great start so far, and for several weeks even rivaled Wright and DiMirio in yardage. Law’s biggest upside so far has been his ability to produce as a blocker and red zone threat despite lacking the physical attributes you’d expect to need. As he continues to grow, expect him to haul in a lot of receptions and bring Arizona’s offense the stability it needs to execute their defense-first philosophy even more successfully.
4.) Break Bottles - SaberCats
@Blake Bortles
|| Rec: 32 || Yards: 194 || TDs: 2 || Pancakes: 12 ||
Despite being the Vertical Threat archetype, Break Bottles has had a poor receiving average this season. Though he appeared to be one of S1’s most promising young players, he has settled into a role as a journeyman in San Jose. He may soon find himself in Free Agency if more promising rookie TEs present themselves in the upcoming draft.
5.) Gabriel Tenzini - Legion
@princekyle
|| Rec: 25 || Yards: 196 || TDs: 0 || Pancakes: 9 ||
Las Vegas has, for some odd reason, three Tight Ends on the roster. Tenzini has held onto the starting spot for probably longer than he deserves, and that is likely to give way to the rookie Connor Tanner who is a much more impressive all around prospect. Tenzini’s time as a starter may be coming to an end as he has shown little promise after his excellent rookie season. He is likely destined for a life as a fill-in journeyman or backup at the position.
6.) Joseph Askins - Wraiths
@jaskins811
|| Rec: 22 || Yards: 130 || TDs: 0 || Pancakes: 11 ||
It’s been a rocky start for Ricky Maddox’s replacement in Yellowknife. Joseph Askins is now the second Blocking TE in the league, with Wright being the first and for a while only. For the time being, he simply doesn’t have the athleticism to put up big numbers against the league’s ever improving defenses. He is one of just two players with over 100 receiving yards and under 6 yards per reception, and has yet to catch one for a touchdown. Askins will have to keep his head down and work on his strength and speed, then his blocking talent will start to shine along with better receiving numbers. He has definitely shown the motivation to do so and the Wraiths have a team culture that encourages their players to go out and make a name for themselves.
7.) Sebastian Joyce - Yeti
@`The_King`
|| Rec: 10 || Yards: 65 || TDs: 0 || Pancakes: 7 ||
The final rookie starter on our list, Sebastian Joyce unfortunately has had little impact on a Yeti team that desperately needs someone to step up. The Yeti have the league’s worst offense by a huge margin, and Joyce has barely even been involved in that. It’s looking like he will be a bust at this point, as the rookie has not shown any improvement since the start of the season and hasn’t made a post in almost a month.
8.) Jessie Sanderson - Hawks
@Jharter94
|| Rec: 7 || Yards: 44 || TDs: 1 || Pancakes: 1 ||
With the departure of Carmel Gibson, the Hawks seem to have given up on the TE position altogether. Sanderson brings almost nothing to the table, but has scored a touchdown which is more than some players can say.

Who do you think will end up as the best overall TE at the season’s end? Will DiMirio move ahead thanks to having more remaining home games, or does Charlie Law have a chance to take it his rookie season?
