The Carlito Crush Diaries
Entry #4 – The Norfolk Seawolves Experience
Dear Diary,
Sorry I haven’t written much lately. Everything’s been such a blur since I got to Virginia! First, I learned that Norfolk was in Virginia! After that the hits just kept on coming. I only had a few practices to really learn the playbook. I studied that thing front to back, day and night, like it was training camp or something. I busted my ass to learn as much as I could, and I did okay, but it’s hard to just assimilate yourself so quickly to a team that’s been running the gameplan for damn near 20 weeks altogether with camp, preseason, and the regular season so far. But I got to play in the Week 14 matchup against the Pythons! I was so jacked for this game, I just knew that I was going to set the league on fire and teams were going to be pissed they didn’t get me weeks before like they should have. It was a road game, so that always takes a bit of a toll on the body, especially going from the East coast to the west coast. Add in the fact that I had to travel from Columbus to Norfolk in the week too and I’ll admit I was a little tired. But it didn’t matter. I was jacked to play and show the world what I’ve got! And I didn’t do a very good job. The final line for me was 1 catch for 3 yards. WHAT A DEBUT! HALL OF FAMER RIGHT HERE FOLKS! To be fair, I wasn’t the starting tight end, and I didn’t get the full complement of plays a person who was the team for longer than a week may have gotten, but hell, I was there, I made a catch, and its off to the races for my career now.
I took a different approach with the playoff games. I knew I’d be playing a bit more in those games with the extra practices and everything. I think if I really did some good work here, I’d have a good shot to go high in the upcoming DSFL Draft in the offseason. I always work better with goals, you know? It didn’t look like I’d get to do too much in the playoffs. We were playing the Chicago Blues, a team that finished first in the league with a 10-4 record, and were the favorites to win the DSFL championship. Well, boy did that blow up in their faces! We executed our game plan almost flawlessly and walked out of Chicago with a 17-13 victory, and a berth in the title game! How awesome is that? What’s even more awesome is that I started to show the league what I really can do. I had 6 catches for 46 yards, including a 16 yard gain on 3rd down that gave us 1st and goal with 6 minutes to go in the game. It lead to the go ahead touchdown two plays later, and before you knew it, we won the game. That was an awesome feeling.
So now here I am in the championship game and we’re playing the San Antonio Marshals. They were a good team in their own right, but we practiced hard and we were jacked for this game. I mean, obviously. Sadly, they were too, and more than us it seemed. We lost 13-3. I had another really good game, with 8 receptions for 68 yards. But when your quarterback throws 4 picks, its really hard to win a game.
I enjoyed my time in Norfolk for sure, but now it’s time to turn my attention to the draft. I don’t know where I’ll go yet, and the management in Norfolk even hinted that I may make a return here. I can’t wait to find out.
