Storm Woods is perhaps the biggest underdog in this upcoming DSFL draft. The 6’1 190 Pound Corner Back/Strong Safety out of Michigan is immensely smart but GMs have been doubtful of his ability to translate to pro ball. Storm Woods is ready to prove the doubters wrong and emerge as the greatest defensive player in NSFL history. Storm Woods was an extremely accomplished Corner Back at Michigan who won several big ten awards for his defensive play.
The main thing that Storm Woods brings to the table is his intelligence. Woods was famous at Michigan for his intense study of film. He’d watch film while he ate breakfast, while he walked to class, while he was waiting for class start, and sometimes even during class. As far as defensive backs go, Woods might very well be the smartest football player in the draft. His speed remains somewhat average and at the moment that’s a big concern for GMs. Because of this Woods has been looking for a speed coach.
Woods also played a bit at the SS position. While not the shiniest and best spot for young player it certainly was a great opportunity for him to show case his talents at helping other backs and the occasional pass rush. Most of his snaps did come with him at Corner Back.
When he played on the offensive side of the ball he often played as a wide receiver. While he’d only be a 3rd Wide Receiver, and occasionally a 2nd, some teams have had interest in him at that position. Prior to the draft he has had extensive workouts with the Kansas City Scouts and during that time he practiced a lot at the Wide Receiver position. Towards the end of camp however, he ended up playing at his natural position of Corner Back due to recent team transactions. At this present time Kansas City has expressed interest in him playing at that position.
Woods is a zone Corner Back who is going to use his intelligence to prevent completions anywhere on the field. One of the things that really sticks out about Woods game is his ability to read the eyes of the Quarter Back, It’s incredibly difficult to trick Woods as he knows where the ball will be thrown before the Quarter Back has made up his mind. When Woods is tasked with taking a receiver head to head, Woods relies on his intelligence and knowledge of what that receiver is most likely to do rather than speed alone. In college Woods was rarely burnt by any receiver and there was talk about nominating him for the Heisman.
Since Woods declared for the draft there has been some disappointment amongst Michigan fans that he wouldn’t be returning Woods has been anxious to play in the NSFL since it formed when he was in high school. When asked about his favorite teams Woods said “right now I love watching the Wraiths. They play an exciting brand of football and it was a shame to see them loose in the championship… I’d like to play in Yellowknife one day.” Woods has expressed a lot of interest in playing for Yellowknife as he admires their tough spirit to play in such a brutal climate.
When you draft Storm Woods you are getting a replicant like defensive back. Unlesss the offense is made up of Blade Runners Woods is going to use his intelligence to march all over you. Woods is also flexible in what responsibilities he is given. He doesn’t mind playing CB, SS, KR, or WR, he said, “I just want to play football. Hell I’d play Quarter Back or Left Tackle if I had the size for it. I’m out here to show them why Storm Woods should be feared and should be regarded as one of the best ever.” When you draft Storm woods you are getting a warrior, one worth holding on to. Even though many GMs are slipping on him now. A few years from now DSFL GMs will be kept up at night kicking themselves they didn’t make this pick. Storm Woods is the Corner Back that the NSFL has been waiting for, Storm Woods is the future.
