[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Chad Pennington's Rookie Season in Review[/div]
Preamble
Coming into this season Chad Pennington's expectations for himself were really high. After winning three awards in his first and only DSFL seasons (Rookie of the year, defensive rookie of the year and defensive player of the year), he expected to come into the league as one of the premier line backers. Out of the gate things didn't seem to go his way, but as the season progressed he went from being a secondary line backer to becoming one of the most consistent line backers on his team that helped win the Ultimus in the end. All in all he is proud of what happened this season and although he may not win the Ultimus right away next season, anything less will be a disappointment. Individually he was able to get 72 tackles, 4 sacks and 1 pass defended. He has shown that he has the speed and the strength to be a great player, now his focus is going to be on defending more passes, tackles for losses, forced fumbles and fumbles recovered. He will do everything in his power to earn the Wraiths another Ultimus victory, and winning it every year is his ultimate goal for his career.
Preseason
Week 1 - Yellowknife Wraiths vs Arizona Outlaws
Chad did not play in this game according to the stats. The Wraiths lost to Arizona by a score of 27 to 24. The Outlaws' win cam because of consistency vs the Wraiths scoring points in bursts only in the first and fourth quarters. If the Wraiths had been able to score a touchdown instead of their field goal in the first quarter and the PAT they would have won the game by one point. Both players of the game were from Arizona and L. Tiernan was the top defensive player for YKW.
Week 2 -Yellowknife Wraiths vs Colorado Yeti
Again Chad Pennington did not play in this game. The Wraiths did a really poor job in this game, losing by a score of 19 -6 to the Yeti. The top defensive player for the Wraiths was again L. Tiernan with 11 tackles and 1 pass defended. Yellowknife did not score a single touchdown this game, and both of their field goals came in the first half. The offensive and defensive players of the game were both from the Colorado Yeti.
Week 3 - Yellowknife Wraiths vs Orange County Otters
The Yellowknife Wraiths were unable to win their first game of the preseason, this time losing by a much closer score of 44 - 38 to the Orange County Otters. Chad Pennington did not play in this game again. Taylor C. was the top player for the Wraiths defensively this game with 8 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 pass defended. Oddly enough, the defensive player of the game came Arizona in this came, and the offensive player of the game came from Orange County.
Week 4 - Colorado Yeti vs Yellowknife Wraiths
Chad Pennington did not play in the final game of the preseason for the Yellowknife Wraiths. Again, Taylor C. led the team in defensive play with 8 tackles and 1 sack. The Wraiths were finally able to win a game, by a score of 24 - 13. For the first and only time this preseason the offensive and defensive players of the game were both from the Yellowknife Wraiths (the offensive player of the game was Mat Akelsen and the defensive player of the game was Cameron Taylor).
Final Preseason Notes
This a disappointing pre season to look back on. Having not played any games and watching his team go only 1 - 3 was not something he had hoped for. It helped him decide that he needed to step in right away to do everything he could to get the Wraiths back on track to being an Ultimus contender. He knew he wouldn't be able to do it single handedly, but it was going to be a start that would propel the Wraiths to an incredible season.
Regular Season
Week 1 - Yellowknife Wraiths vs New Orleans Second Line
The Yellowknife Wraiths started their regular season with a bang after having a bad pre season. The Wraiths won their first game against the Second Line by a score of 33 - 7, and only gave up a single touchdown in the first quarter. Chad Pennington was able to get 9 tackles and 1 sack, which was enough to get the most tackles on his team. The defensive player of the game was Ben Tweed from the Yellowknife Wraiths who had 7 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 pass defended. A theme for this season is going to be Chad being a top secondary defensive player who gets a big number of tackles with very few other statistical accolades, but he contributes in his own way.
Week 2 - Arizona Outlaws vs Yellowknife Wraiths
Yellowknife started their first win streak of the season with their second winning coming against the Arizona Outlaws by a score of 30 - 24 in overtime. Chad got 9 tackles in this game with no other statistical accolades. The offensive player of the game was from Arizona and the defensive player of the game was Yellowknife Wraiths cornerback Dermot Lavelle who had only 8 tackles and no other statistical accolades (is the voting rigged? Why didn't Chad get it?).
Week 3 - New Orleans Second Line vs Yellowknife Wraiths
The Wraiths extended their winning streak to 3 this week with their 41- 13 and were able to stop the Second Line from scoring more than 1 touchdown and 2 field goals. Chad was able to get 5 tackles and 1 pass defended in this game. Clee Hardrool had an incredible game that was enough for defensive player of the game while the offensive player of the game was Robby Rainey with 4 touchdowns and 89 yards.
Week 4 - Yellowknife Wraiths vs Baltimore Hawks
The Wraiths extended their game winning streak to 4 games with a 32 to 28 win over the Baltimore Hawks where the Hawks took both the offensive and defensive individual awards. Chad had a rough game this go around, getting only 4 tackles and nothing else statistically. This game was pretty rough all around defensively, but P. Carter stood out especially for the Wraiths with 4 passes defended, something that is almost unheard of in a single game. In the end the Wraiths won the game so they decided to do their best to just forget about how poor of a performance it was and be happy they snuck of the week with a W.
Week 5 - Yellowknife Wraiths vs Philadelphia Liberty
The Wraiths won yet another game to extend their win streak to five games by defeating the Philadelphia Liberty by a score of 34 - 27. The Wraiths demolished the Liberty during the 2nd quarter when they scored 17 points. Chad was able to come back from his poor statistical game from the previous week and get 9 tackles against the Liberty. The offensive player of the game was Mat Akelsen who had an incredible game at quarterback with 334 yards and 1 touchdown without throwing a single interception. This was a game to remember for him. Micah Hendrix took home defensive player of the after making 7 tackles and 2 sacks.
Week 6 - Baltimore Hawks vs Yellowknife Wraiths
The won their 6th game in a row by defeating the Baltimore Hawks by a score of 29 - 24. The game was very back and forth with the difference being the Wraith's 2 field goals in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Chad's youth was evident during this game as he was only able to get 2 tackles during the game. The Wraiths did not have any defensive standouts in this game, but Mat Akelsen had another incredible game where he scored 2 touchdowns and 309 yards.
Week 7 - Orange County Otters vs Yellowknife Wraiths
The Wraiths 6 game winning streak finally ended this week at the hands of the Orange County Otters. Chad had an okay game where he was able to get 5 tackles and 1 sack, but Dermot Lavelle carried the defense in this game with 5 tackles, 1 pass defended, 1 interception and 1 touchdown. He was given the defensive player of the game award and a player from the Orange County Otters was given the offensive player of the game award. The Wraiths did everything they could get back into this game but were unable to get back into it after giving up 24 points in the first half alone.
Week 8 - Yellowknife Wraiths vs San Jose Sabre Cats
The Wraiths bounced back hard from last week's loss with a 45 - 27 win against the San Jose Sabre Cats. Chad's first game against his brother Brad started came with a vengeance, where Chad was able to get a sack on Brad. Dermot Lavelle took home the defensive player of the game with 5 tackles, 2 passes defended, 1 interception, and 1 touchdown. Mat Akelsen was the offensive player of the game and had an incredibly impressive game with 3 touchdowns and 264 yards. The Sabre Cats had a huge 4th quarter, but the Wraiths had a huge first three quarters and so they were unable to fully finish their comeback.
Week 9 - Yellowknife Wraiths vs San Jose Sabre Cats
In what was probably the biggest nightmare the Sabre Cats could think of they had to play the Wraiths once again, the Wraiths defeated the Sabre Cats by a score of a whopping 62 -3. Mat Akelsen was awarded the offensive player of the game with 4 touchdowns and 400 yards. The defensive player of the game was Boss Tweed with 8 tackles and 3 sacks. Chad had an unremarkable game with only 4 tackles.
Week 10 - Yellowknife Wraiths vs Arizona Outlaws
The Wraiths lost their second game of season to the Arizona Outlaws, though the defense for the Wraiths seemed to have a particularly great game with two players getting over 10 tackles each. The game was won on the back of Dean Jackson who went 5 for 6 on field goals for 15 of the 36 points the Outlaws were able to score. Chad Pennington only scored 5 tackles during this game, which was a good amount but was a pretty disappointing amount for him personally.
Week 11 - Yellowknife Wraiths vs Colorado Outlaws
The Wraiths were able to get back on track this week with a win over the Yeti by a score of 33 to 6 where the Yeti were kept only to being able to score 2 field goals and no touchdowns. Chad Pennington scored only 4 tackles this game. Boss Tweed was the defensive player of the game this week with 9 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 safety. Mat Akelsen took home yet another offensive player of the game with 2 touchdowns and 342 yards.
Week 12 - Yellowknife Wraiths vs Orange County Otters
The Wraiths lost their third game of the season to the Orange County Otters this week by a score of 38 -17 and none of the players from Yellowknife were able to grab a player of the game award. Chad Pennington individually was able to lead the Wraiths with 7 tackles and 1 sack, but R. Maddox had 7 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 1 sack during the game.
Week 13 - Colorado Yeti vs Yellowknife Wraiths
The Wraiths won their 13th game by a score of 28 -12. Chad had an awful game this week with only 2 tackles and nothing else to speak of statistically. Ricky Maddox was the defensive player of the game with 3 tackles and 3 sacks during the game. The wraiths kept the Yeti from getting any touchdowns during the game and kept the Yeti to just 4 field goals.
Week 14 - Philadelphia Liberty vs Yellowknife Wraiths
The Wraiths absolutely destroyed the Philadelphia Liberty in their 14th game of the season by a score of 31 to 3 where the only three points Philadelphia scored was by field goal. The Wraiths scored four touchdowns during the game and one field goal. Chad had another terrible game with only 1 tackle. Marcus Kane took home defensive player of the game with 7 tackles and 1 sack, while Robby Rainey was the offensive player of the game with 75 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Week 15 - Baltimore Hawks vs Yellowknife Wraiths
In the final game of the regular season the Wraiths defeated the Baltimore Hawks by a close score of 38 - 24, and Chad Pennignton was able to finally bounce back from his previous two awful weeks to getting 10 tackles and 1 sack. The defensive player of the game was Marcus Kane with 12 tackles and 1 sack, while Baltimore's quarterback was able to win offensive player of the game.
Final Regular Season Notes
Chad Pennington all around had an okay season, but he didn't live up to his own personal expectations and will be back next season, faster and much much stronger. During the season he will be working personally with the defensive coach to get smarter and with the conditioning coach to become more agile. With these improvements he should be well on his way to becoming one of the top line backers in the league.

Post Season
Semifinals - Baltimore Hawks vs Yellowknife Wraiths
Chad had a great semifinals with 10 tackles and 1 sack. Marcus Kane still was able to take home defensive player of the game with 12 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss and 1 sack. The most important stat being that the Wraiths winning the game by a score of 38 - 24. Offensive player of the game went to the Hawks' quarterback, but the Wraiths' was able to overcome that of the Hawks by committee which brought home the W for the Wraiths, advancing them to the Ultimus.
Finals - New Orleans Second Line vs Yellowknife Wraiths
In the most important game of the entire year Chad Pennington tied for the most tackles on his team with 6 and 1 sack. Mat Akelsen took home offensive player of the game and made a case for being MVP of the playoffs (pending league voting). This team will go down as one of the best defensive squads in NSFL history with an incredible LB corp.
Post Season Notes
The ultimate goal is always winning the Ultimus. Nothing that happened in the season personally or as a team can change the fact that Chad Pennington and the Yellowknife Wraiths are the champions of the NSFL. With his goal completed Chad looks to next season where he will be doing everything he can to bring the Wraiths back to the mountain top, this time with a more primary role after his huge offseason of gaining strength, speed and smarts on the field. Watch out NSFL, Chad is back again!
