This monday marked the 11th annual rookie draft for the Developmental Simulation Football League, and a great new player was selected at a ranking that was quite a steal. Youngster Sam Garrad out of Holy Cross High School made waves when he declared for the DSFL draft alongside past team mates Luke Boechler, Eric Legstrong, and [real name omitted] Krispy Kreme but now he has taken on a lot quieter of a role as he's been fairly semi active in terms of training camps in recent weeks. The most recent DSFL draft had a whopping 35 players selected, and marks itself as one of the biggest draft classes in the league's short tenured history. Garrad is a top notch defensive tackle prospect who has a major part of the Crusaders success and was selected at the end of the fourth round by the Tijuana Luchadores with the 16th Overall pick. Garrad began his career in the DSFL with the Luchadores last season as he was on the roster but not the active list for their playoff push where they won their third straight Ultimus.
So where is he now? Garrad recently announced that he will be moving to San Jose, California, USA in order to be closer to Tijuana but that because of some altercations with the law from back when he was in high school (in association with star quarter back Luke Boechler) that he was unable to obtain a VISA to live in the country of Mexico full time. Garrad will instead be flying in to join the team for their first game of the season, but will not be joining them for the remainder of the team camp. Many Luchadores fans are disappointing at the prospect of not getting to see Garrad for another week yet, here's what the young star had to say about the recent developments.
"Well it definitely sucks to have events from my early teenage years come back to bite me in the ass as an adult, I understand that it's just the way things go sometimes. This will be changed soon though, as Canada has recently announced that with it's legalization of marijuana they will be dropping all past minor possession charges from Canadian records."
Garrad was arrested alongside Coyotes star quarterback Luke Boechler back in their sophomore year of football when the two were caught in possession of marijuana while smoking at Kusch Park in Saskatoon's Willowgrove area. The two had a good laugh about it in an interview with the NFL Network last night, here's what Boechler had to say.
"Well, me and Sammy [Garrad] definitely used to fuck around quite a bit when we were in our college days, and it wasn't unusual for us to smoke a bit of reefer from time to time. It was just the type of thing that people did back in Saskatoon on a cold day during our ten month winters."
