With the Season 13 Draft approaching, here's my attempt at a mock draft. I used the TPE numbers from player pages and based the team needs off of their current roster pages and based activity off the players' last update post, so I apologize if I made any mistakes with those.
#1 -
|| Johnny Snuggles - CB - 226 TPE
With the #1 overall selection in the draft, the Yellowknife Wraiths select cornerback Johnny Snuggles from the Kansas City Coyotes. Until recently, Snuggles was not expected to be available to the Wraiths as he was set to join the Hawks as a GM player. However, now that he has joined Head Office, he is available to be selected as a normal prospect and looks like the top player in this class. He checks all the boxes as he is the highest TPE player in this class and plays at cornerback, which is one of the most sought after positions for NSFL GMs as high quality cornerbacks are very valuable and are hard to find. He also brings in a very valuable user who is a member of the Head Office and also has GM experience. Snuggles fills a need for the Wraiths as they traded Andre Bly Jr. last season and Dermot Lavelle is deep into regression, so they are in need of youth at the cornerback position and he could make an instant impact for them. There are several options the Wraiths could take at this pick, but I think that Snuggles will be their choice as they are able to add a top tier prospect at a premium position.
#2 -
|| Spencer Castle - CB - 203 TPE
With the first of their two back to back picks, the New Orleans Second Line select cornerback Spencer Castle from the Tijuana Luchadores. As a top tier cornerback prospect, he is a very valuable prospect as he also comes from a well established user who is a member of the sim team. The Second Line don't have any cornerbacks on their roster right now, so this also fills an important need for them both in the short term and the long term. They'll have more options to consider with their second pick, but I think they won't miss out on the opportunity to fill a big need with a top prospect at an important position.
#3 -
|| Benson Harris - DE - 222 TPE
With their second pick, the New Orleans Second Line select defensive end Benson Harris from the San Antonio Marshals. They have several positions they could look for upgrades at, but they don't have any desperate needs after addressing cornerback with their first pick. So I think they will look to select the best player available and take the highest TPE player on the board. They already have two promising young defensive ends on the roster, but defensive linemen can be rotated between positions so Harris will still be able to fill an important role in their defense by allowing them to build around a stout defensive line. They may also give some close consideration to Lucius Kane if they would prefer to invest in their offense. However, wide receiver is less of a need for them with Vladimir Fyodorovich signing a long term extension and they have several young receivers on the roster as well so I think they will opt to take a second defensive player here instead.
#4 -
|| Lucius Kane - WR - 194 TPE
With the #4 pick in the draft, the Arizona Outlaws select wide receiver Lucius Kane from the Portland Pythons. It makes sense for Kane to go here as there is a TPE dropoff after the top four prospects so he is the best player on the board here. The Outlaws are happy to see him available here as he will fill a need for them. They have a strong wide receiver duo with Viggo Squanch and Trey Willie, but they will need youth at the position soon with Willie entering regression. Kane will give them a top young receiver to build there offense around for the future, which could be important for them with their uncertainty at the quarterback position as a young receiver would be a big help for their new quarterback. Kane is the highest TPE player available at this pick and should be a nice fit for the Outlaws.
#5 -
|| David Ginsberg - LB - 152 TPE
With the fifth pick in the draft, the Phildadelphia Liberty select linebacker David Ginsberg from the Portland Pythons. Ginsberg is the top defensive prospect on the board at this pick and will make a nice addition to the Liberty's defense. K.J. Becker is the only linebacker on the Liberty's current roster, so they could definitely use some help at the position. It works out nicely for them that the draft's top linebacker prospect is available at their pick. Ginsberg can fit into an immediate need for the Liberty and be a good defensive piece to build around going forward.
#6 -
|| Johnny Blaze - TE - 137 TPE
With the #6 pick in the draft, the Otters use the first of their two first round picks to select tight end Johnny Blaze from the Portland Pythons. Blaze is the top tight end in the draft and would be able to add another weapon to the Otters' powerful offense. This was a bigger need for the Otters earlier in the offseason as they didn't have a tight end on the roster before making a trade that gave them Glenn McPoyal along with this pick. However, McPoyal is entering regression this season so he is more of a short term solution while Blaze will give the Otters a tight end who they can build around for the future. Some teams in the NSFL like to utilize two tight end formations, so this also gives the Otters another option they can experiment with on offense as they could look to utilize McPoyal and Blaze at the same time. Good tight end prospects can be rare, so Johnny Blaze will make a nice fit for the Otters as they will need a new tight end in the next couple years.
#7 -
|| Corey Trevor - RB - 159 TPE
With the seventh pick in the draft, the Baltimore Hawks select running back Corey Trevor from the Portland Pythons. Trevor is the top running back prospect in the draft (excluding GM player Tyler Swift who is only available to the Second Line). A lot of teams are already set at running back, but he could be a nice addition for the Hawks at this pick. Last season, they traded for Antonio Summer with the hopes that he could be the successor to Owen Taylor. However, Summer's progression has slowed down so they may look to bring in another young running back in case he doesn't return to his previous activity level. Even if Summer gets back on track, the Hawks ran more of a committee running back system last season with Taylor still getting a good amount of carries even as the back up, so they may like to have a second good running back so that they can continue to rotate carries and keep their runners fresh. The Hawks have a history of strong running backs and Corey Trevor could be a good fit at this pick to help keep that tradition going.
#8 -
|| Nate Swift - WR - 117 TPE
With the final pick of the first round, the Orange County Otters use their second first round pick to select wide receiver Nate Swift from the Tijuana Luchadores. Swift is the second highest wide receiver in the draft class and has been a solid earner during the season, so he could be a nice pickup here. The Otters don't have an immediate need at wide receiver with Carlito Crush, Tegan Atwell, and Sunnycursed under contract next season. However, Atwell is retiring after next season and Crush is fighting against regression, so the Otters could use some youth at the position to be their future #2 receiver alongside Sunnycursed once Atwell and Crush have retired. Strong receivers have been a key to the Otters' success in the past and I think they will continue that trend by drafting another young receiver to develop here at the end of the first round.
