The odds have always been stacked against Josh Bercovici from the moment he declared himself for the NSFL, but it hasn't stopped him from putting everything he's got into making sure that once he gets his shot, there will be no looking back, and someone will regret keeping him sidelined.
While there hasn't been any formal announcement that Mike Boss won the starting job, it's pretty clear that he will be the day one starter. Out of the three quarterbacks vying for the position, he is the only one who received legitimate playing time in the pre-season, playing the first and second games start to finish, both victories, while Ethan Hunt and Josh Bercovici were forced to split the remaining two games, but instead of each playing one full game to properly show their abilities, the league forced the Otters to have them play one half of each game, resulting in two losses and as the team struggled to find chemistry.
"It's pretty fucking irritating, honestly, the league decides they can't be bothered to input the change that would allow Hunt and I to both start games, so instead we have to split each game, which is fucking stupid...and it's especially rough for Ethan and the offensive team, because as soon as he gets chemistry going he gets pulled, and then I have to come in, and I play a completely different game than he does, so the entire offense has to shift how it plays- it was a fucking clusterfuck for everyone and the job was basically handed to Boss on a golden platter because of it." Said a disgruntled Bercovici.
Despite all of that, and likely being the third string quarterback at the start of season, Bercovici remains optimistic and unwavering in his pursuit. "As fucking ridiculous as this whole situation is, I'm not letting it effect my preparation or my work ethic...eventually I'll get my shot, and when I do, there will be no looking back. I'm right there with these guys, actually I'm better than they are, and I show it every practice, but the powers that be don't wanna put the ball in my hands, and that's fine, I'll wait till someone does, and it'll be the best choice they've ever made."
Neither Ethan Hunt or Bercovici will change positions, both players sticking to their guns, perhaps banking on an expansion team in the future needing a quarterback, or they are just biding their time hoping Mike Boss slips up, because with guys like Hunt and Berc haunting the sidelines there won't be much room for error, and there may even be other teams that come calling if their quarterback doesn't live up to expectations.
