This last week was full of upsets, although many of you probably don't even realize it! Let me take you down the rabbit hole and show everyone why every single game should be perceived as an upset from the NSFL's Week 2 games.
Philadelphia Liberty 30 @ New Orleans Second Line 17
Ok, so I lied. The only thing that was upsetting about this game is that I chose Borkus Maximus III as my QB in fantasy and he threw 3 picks. Come on man! New Orleans was playing at home and are a middle of the pack team that was predicted by some to beat Philly, but this outcome isn't particularly surprising. Most have Philly finishing the season better as well after looking at the season prediction analysis. I'm 0 for 1 so far, but bear with me. I promise the rest of the games are all upsets in some fashion.
Baltimore Hawks 17 @ Yellowknife Wraiths 34
HA! This one is definitely an upset. Told you. I'm honestly not sure if a single person picked the Wraiths to win in this weeks predictions. The Hawks are the clear favorite to win their conference while the Wraiths are expected to finish towards the middle. At home the Wraiths proved that they are a solid team, as they dismantled Baltimore. Who would have guessed that Yellowknife would be one of only two undefeated teams at this point. Not me, that's for sure. Or anybody else really for that matter. On to the next.
Colorado Yeti 24 @ Arizona Outlaws 41
I know what you're thinking. How is this an upset? I even picked the Outlaws in this one, so why am I trying to convince you this is an upset? The answer is simple. I'm petty and want to rub it in @nunccoepi 's face for no reason in particular. I had said in the rookie discord help channel to avoid picking the Yeti this year, while nunc advised not to pick Arizona at all this season (proof here). I'll give a pass to the Yeti players, they believe in themselves which is admirable. But, if you weren't on the team and had the same (wrong) mindset, this is clearly an upset. A laughable one at that where the Outlaws engaged the Yeti in a shootout but were the only ones that brought guns. Alright, I'm done talking about this one. Nunc/Yeti supporters, I was just poking fun, I'm sorry if I was a bit harsh here.
Orange County Otters 17 @ San Jose Sabercats 27
What could possibly be my explanation for this one? Most people picked the 'Cats to win this game, and their conference for that matter. Well, you underestimate my bias for the team I play for. The Otters are awesome. We are the best team in my professional unprofessional opinion. I'm shocked that we lost, we came out of the gate playing mediocre, which is not what we are. This is obviously the sim's fault, theres no reason why we shouldn't go undefeated and win the Ultimus. Definitely a let down this week. You might not be convinced that this warrants the outcome being called an upset, but you're wrong. I'm upset at least.
I'll leave going into detail on these games up for someone else to take a crack at, this isn't a 'week in review' or 'analysis' post. I just wanted to point out how there were clearly at least 3 upsets this week in this already wild season. I'm excited to see how the rest of it plays out. See you guys next time!
