On Monday night, the DSFL welcomed the newest crop of prospects into their minor league. As one of four quarterback prospects in the draft, I was approached by a few of the general managers. I left the interview process feeling pretty confident in going high in the draft. Monday night finally came, and the Season 18 DSFL Draft was here.
As the draft started, I was sitting in the green room with my family and reps. We sat there as Hardagain went first to Portland and then we see Tijuana walking to the podium for the second pick. This pick intrigued us because we had a great interview process with them, but more importantly, I share reps with a Luchadore legend in Xavier Flash. We thought that connection to Flash would give us a leg up on any other player, but to our surprise they took another quarterback, Avon Blocksdale Jr. I'd be lying if I said that didn't sting a little bit. Not being the first quarterback off the board hurt, but also that the connection to Tijuana wasn't enough as well.
Luckily for me, that sting didn't last long. Just as the third pick was going to be announced, we got a call from the team making that pick, the Kansas City Coyotes. I answered the phone and the general manager simply said, "welcome to Kansas City". I thanked him and listened as the commissioner called my name. I walked up to the podium, gave a little stare to the two teams who passed on me, and got my new Coyotes hat on and picture taken.
It's been a whirlwind ever since getting drafted. I've met with my general managers and have gotten acquainted with lots of my new teammates. We're already talking strategy on the field and already getting to know my wide receivers and running back.
I'm excited and ready to start this new chapter in my career. My goal is to be the franchise quarterback Kansas City needs, the best quarterback in the DSFL, and make any team that passed on me regret that choice. I'm looking at you Tijuana.
