Dallas Birddogs vs. London Royals - Who won the Draft?
With the Season 21 DSFL-Draft in the books, it is time to take an early look the two expansion franchises. Both the Dallas Birddogs and the London Royals got into the Season 21 Draft without any players on their roster. As many Mock-Draft-Creators put it correctly before the draft: Their needs were basically everything with the exception of a Runningback for the Birddogs (because of Gucci’s player character).
The two franchise are bound to be compared to one another simply because of the timing they both entered the league. With that, there is an important question to ask: Who won the Draft?
Keep in mind that this article will be purely rated for the amount of TPE at the positions. These TPE are not updated yet and I do believe that some of them will not make it into the season (update pages are a disaster!). If there was not a link to your PT or if your task was not confirmed yet: I decided if I would give these TPE to your player and adjusted the TPE accordingly. I looked up the TPE on 03/06/2020 and I will not provide any updates on them.
As none of the equipment purchases seem to be approved yet I gave them to the players (because I did not want to check all of your bank accounts for the available funds).
The sim, as many of you might know, often has its own mind and therefore TPE do not always matter equally. In general though, TPE are an indicator of good performances. I will disregard other positive properties of a player (like activity, locker room presence, friends within the league to keep the person active, etc.).
So let’s see how their Rosters will shake out:
The Dallas Birddogs did have the #1 overall pick. That alone can be a huge advantage. The team will get the chance to get the best player in the draft. Good for the Draft though, there basically were two #1 overall picks in the Jack brothers. Both of them were drafted with the first two picks. Furthermore, the first pick in the first round does mean that a team gets the last pick of the next (second) round and so on.
Dallas had to give up its second-round pick to draft White Goodman.
So, let’s look at the available picks.
The Dallas Birddogs used 43 Picks. 15 of them on the offensive side of the ball (~35%) and 28 on the defense (~65%). The number of defensive players drafted exceeded the taken offensive players by far! nearly two thirds of the picks have been used for the defense. The picks are listed right here:
#01 #16 #22 #26 #33 #42 #46 #49 #58 #65 #74 #81 #90 #106 #113 #122 #125 #129 #133 #138 #141 #145 #147 #149 #154 #155 #161 #163 #170 #171 #177 #179 #186 #187 #202 #209 #218 #225 #234 #241 #250 #257 #266
The London Royals seemed to have a similar plan. The Royals used only 14 of their 36 draft picks on offense (~39%) and 22 on the defense (~61%)! The picks for the british are also listed:
#02 #09 #18 #25 #34 #41 #50 #57 #66 #73 #82 #89 #98 #105 #114 #121 #130 #137 #146 #153 #160 #168 #169 #176 #178 #185 #194 #201 #210 #217 #226 #233 #242 #249 #258 #265
Here is the amount of Players both Teams drafted for every position. At the left side there are the amount of player being drafted by the Birddogs, on the right the Royals:
QB 2 1
RB 4 4
WR 4 5
TE 5 4
_______________________
DT 5 3
DE 5 4
LB 6 5
CB 5 4
S 6 4
K 1 2
Both teams did not draft an offensive-lineman, they seem to count on strong performances by the OL bots. Other than that the teams do not have any empty roster spots. The most notable differences are the fact that the Birddogs counted on two relatively high drafted QBs (#1 and #74) and the Royals ended the draft only with their #2 pick for a QB. The Royals also picked two kickers who are likely to compete for the job.
Now, let’s talk TPE (the part you are here for…):

But what are the strengths of these two teams? Where are the main differences?
(I did not use the cut players for these calculations).
TPE Offense Dallas: 1334TPE
TPE Offense London :918TPE
TPE Offense Avg Dallas: 102,62TPE
TPE Offense Avg London: 65,57TPE
As you can see the Birddogs are WAY better equipped on the offensive side of the ball than the Royals. With only 2 picks more on the offense the birddogs were able to get a TPE advantage of 400 points! Since I calculated basically every spot in the roster on offense let’s look at the (most likely) starting spots:
TPE OStarters Dallas: 762TPE
TPE OStarters London: 523TPE
TPE OStarters Avg Dallas: 152,4TPE
TPE OStarters Avg London: 104,6TPE
The starters in this calculations are consisting of 1 Quarterback, 1 Runningback, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End
That is an obvious win for the birddogs. Let’s look at the defensive players though:
TPE Defense Dallas: 1839TPE
TPE Defense London: 1546TPE
TPE Defense Avg Dallas: 70,73TPE
TPE Defense Avg London: 70,27TPE

TPE Defensive Starters Dallas: 1018TPE
TPE Defensive Starters London: 1013TPE
TPE Defensive Starters Avg Dallas: 92,55TPE
TPE Defensive Startes Avg London: 92,09TPE
Since I have no idea about the defensive scheme the two teams have I used the positions of 4 Defensive Linemen, 3 Linebacker, 2 Cornerbacks, 2 Safeties for the Averages
And therefore: The Dallas Birddogs have officially won the expansion team season 21 DSFL draft! The Birddogs seem to have both on the offensive side and the defensive side an all-in-all better team than the Royals do.
Keep in mind what I said earlier though: These calculations do not have to mean shit.
I just think it is funny to look at the numbers and see what the differences are.
Starting position matchups:
QBs: 174TPE (Birddogs) vs. 175TPE (Royals)
RBs: 175TPE (Birddogs) vs. 120TPE (Royals)
WRs: 236TPE (Birddogs) vs. 171TPE (Royals)
TEs: 177TPE (Birddogs) vs. 57TPE (Royals)
DTs: 197TPE (Birddogs) vs. 138TPE (Royals)
DEs: 180TPE (Birddogs) vs. 193TPE (Royals)
LBs: 234TPE (Birddogs) vs. 232TPE (Royals)
CBs: 141TPE (Birddogs) vs. 278TPE (Royals)
Ss: 146TPE (Birddogs) vs. 115TPE (Royals)
Ks: 52TPE (Birddofs) vs. 50TPE (Royals)
I will not consider minor TPE advantages to be a big factor in the sims. A much greater impact would be the skills the TPE have been used for by the players. Since it would take waaay to much time for me to check every single statline I did not look at that. So let’s see:
The Quarterbacks of the two Teams are skilled pretty equally. The Jack brothers are both hanging around 175TPE and therefore were the two elite Quarterback prospects.
At Runningback the Birddogs had to take White Goodman. Having to spend the second-round pick for a player character might be a bad thing, but… not if he is the top running back prospect in the draft!! Acura Skyline should be a solid RB especially when you consider the fact that he was picked up by the Royals in the fourth round.
The Birddogs are fn STACKED with Wide Receivers after this draft. Both of their receivers are beyond the 100TPE mark. The only downside: There is no solid 3rd string options for the dogs. After Lim and Lee (which is a duo to say), there are only 50TPE receiver left. Let’s hope that their stamina holds up! … But guess what: The Royals have the same problem. Their receiver situation in London does not look as shiny without a 100TPE receiver. This situation could have been a huge oversight if the Royals would not have gotten a steal with Susan Cash Jr. Huge win for Dallas.
Tight-end-wise: The Birddogs drafted one of two elite tight ends - London did not worry about the hybrids. Another win for dallas.
For DT: The Birddogs went defensive tackle early in the draft. With 140TPE Deshun Jones and a late steal in Big Edd. After that, they have still an alternative for a bit of depth. The best players for the Royals D-line are as good as the Dallas backups. Another advantage for Dallas.
Now for the silver lining: The London Royals do have an advantage in the defensive end department. With the 34th pick in Sandro Ryeu, they got a high TPE option (who’s writing awesome media by the way) and made the birddogs react in drafting Cho who is also a good option.
Both Teams do have a good Linebacker core. With early star-linebacker with Koniecpoolski and De Ville, the teams started the day off with good picks on defense. Depth looks decent as well.
Let’s face it: The Royals went NUTS with their corners. The Royals did not select one 100+TPE corner, they did not select 2 - They have 3 100+TPE Corners. These guys are just no match for Dallas who do not have a single 100+ corner.
Both Teams elected a star-safety far beyond the 100 mark. The main problem: the second safety for the royals sits at 50TPE. That has to be one for Dallas who remembered to draft some backup.
The Teams are pretty even on kickers. I’m just excited to see if any of them are active.
And with all that being said: The Dallas Birddogs won the expansion draft battle. Let’s see if the data will show on the field and let’s hope for exciting matchups with our two brand new DSFL Teams and good luck to all the rookies.
A big thanks to Gucci, DeadlyPlayer, and modern_duke for all the work they put into this draft. The same thing goes for everyone else who is not related to the team but helped to organize this event.
Thank you for reading.
