This is a question that has been brought up many times from discord, twitter and even the forum.
But just in time for week one, I'm here to answer it the best way I can!
This post is inspired by @`BayleyIsland`.

Assumptions
First assumption that is made that a birddog is a half dog and half bird. Well if you thought this you're wrong! How can this

be real? It's definitely pretty hilarious.
Another assumption, thanks to @Forty Jordy, is that Birddog is adult short diapers. While yes that's the brand name but it's not the true birddog.
Disclaimer, this post is brought to you by "Birddogs - the most comfortable shorts in the world".
Gucci - "I love wearing mine birddogs while playing for the birddogs".
Everyone should own a pair, please give me cash. But this isn't what a true birddog is.
History
A Birddog, is a dog who is trained to scout and retrieve dead birds which is typically a water fowl. If you're a hunter you might have known this already.
These dogs are usually divided into three different types: retrievers, flushing dogs and pointers. But the most common dog breed is the pointer and retriever.
Typically, a birddog starts training around 2 months of age where the hunting instinct is developed. These dogs can be traced back to England and Europe from around the 1650s.
The birddog would typically follow the hunter and try to help the hunter point towards the game with it's keen sense of smell. Then the hunter could take aim and shoot the game.
Once the game is shot, the dog would go out and retrieve it. They can do this by hearing the game dropping or take the guide from the handler.
When the game is found the dog will bring back the game to the hunter and then go back to scouting to get set for another hunt.
Football
You might think, "dang that's lame". How does this relate to football or the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). But dear reader you are wrong again.
Birddogs need to be fast, agile, smart, talented and driven, which perfectly describes the DSFL expansion team. They help each other in pointing out the prey (tpe), and go on get them and then pointing out more tpe.
From my experience in the locker room, the players are focused on getting better. This sheer determination to get up and hunt again is what will make the expansion team great.
Hopefully this will clear some things up for some of you, if you have any questions let me know.
Let's go Birddogs!
