Howdy, I thought I'd do a small review of the draft up to my pick in the draft and see what everyone ahead of me is getting into.
Pick 1: Greedy Sly - S
With the first overall pick the the 2038 draft, the Colorado Yeti selected Greedy Sly of the London Royals. Greedy Sly was one of the most active players in this draft and is a DSFL GM so its no wonder why they were picked before every single player in the draft. Their excellent earning with 266 TPE already and knowledge of the sim puts them in a position to be very successful and help bolster the Yeti Secondary. While they Have Pete Parker and Thor Kirkby already in the Safety Position, It won't be long before Greedy sly is playing among them. Kirkby is only a couple hundred TPE ahead of Sly so it may end up that sly eventually takes over their position depending on the activity levels in what not. I'm not sure if a team needs 3 safeties but for the time being, This definitely looks a solid first overall pick that will put the Yeti's defense on another level and hopefully helps Yeti develop a dynasty as they just won the last Ultimus.
Pick 2: Tyler Montain - DT
With the second pick, The Baltimore Hawks Drafted Tyler Montain. Montain already has nearly the highest TPE of any defensive tackle on the team so it's no wonder that the hawks went and drafted them with the second overall pick. It seems to me like Defensive Tackle may not be a very sought after position, but immediately being the highest tpe at the position definitely makes a good argument for going this high in the draft. On top of all that, they also are earning well in general with over 250 tpe. I'm not sure if Baltimore is in a position to compete right now but I could be wrong, that being said this is an instant upgrade to the defense and helps bolster a weak position for the team as they work on developing their team.
Pick 3: Heinrich Kackpoo - LB
With the third pack, Honolulu Looks to bolster their defense as they pick up one of the best Linebackers in the draft. Kackpoo looks to plop in as 2nd best linebacker since they are only 40 tpe behind the next highest linebacker in front of them. With such a young team, it makes sense for them to look at improving their defense and making sure that they have a great foundation for when their offense is fully developed into a competitive unit. Kackpoo looks really solid since he's already over 250 tpe and immediately filling in a need for the team. With their high speed and strength, they look poised to compete for the lead in tackles and command the defense for years to come. It will be interesting to see if this improvement in the defense leads to more wins, only time will tell what they are able to do as they continue to develop.
Pick 4: DB Jadakiss - S
With the fourth pick , the Outlaws address an immediate need in the secondary for a second safety to help back up the young Quinn Hughes. With this position being so young for the team, its important they get an active and developing player so that they can continue to bolster and improve the defense. at 230 TPE hotdog is already developing at a strong pace and hopefully can make a large impact on the defense as Arizona continues to develop and become a stronger team with time.
Jadakiss has a ton of speed so look for them to be moving all over the field as they try to command the airspace on the field. I can't wait for them to get their first interception in the NSFL eventually.
Tycker OM - DL
With the Fifth pick, The Liberty draft what would be the only defensive Lineman on the team. With that in mind, they did pick someone with a solid amount TPE and the ability to earn enough TPE to make an immediate impact on the team if they do end up being called up. As has been shown up to this point, Defense is key to teams that are high up in the draft as they try to develop into competing teams that are working towards that Ultimus trophy. The Liberty are hoping to bolster that defensive line and ideally probably stuff the run game of the other team. With them being the only DL on the team I'm not exactly sure what their impact would be but it's obvious that they where needed as the liberty went and picked them up with the 5th overall pick.
Tychondrius Hood - WR
With the Sixth pick, the Sabercats pick up the first offensive player to go off the board. In my opinion it makes it obvious that the Sabercats believe they are in a position to compete and are looking to try and make a push by adding more offensive help. Though not as developed tpe wise as some of the other picks that have gone off the board, They are already solid in terms of their stats and look they can make an immediate impact on the team this season. Whether this addition as well as the other sabercats additions is yet to be seen but I think they definitely see themselves competing in the playoffs in the next season or two. This is the only offensive pick for the next little while so it'd be interesting to see what it is the sabercats saw in them overall the other offensive players in the draft.
Son Goku - DE
With the Seventh pick, and the first of two in the row, The Sailfish draft Son Goku, one of the highest TPE defensive players in the draft. Son Goku can make a instant impact on the defense and looks to be a threat to quarterbacks for years to come. Again with young teams, the defense is key to developing a championship team and this is the first of many strong steps needed by the sailfish to bolster their defense and develop their team as a whole. Son Goku was no doubt the best defensive player in the DSFL as a rookie and looks to more then likely do the same thing in the NSFL and they continue to earn and grow as a player. On top of all this, they where a great teammate and I hope them the best in the future of their player as they continue on with their career.
Raphael d'Alcott - S
With the Eight overall pick, and the last of two picks in a row, the Sailfish selected a Safety to also help bolster their defense even more alongside Son Goku. Though not as developed. D'Alcott has over 200 tpe and looks to be a solid addition to the secondary. As mentioned with Goku above they both need to continue to develop to help bolster the Sailfish defense and make it into a championship team. The team is young and has time so that when these guys are in their primes they will be terrorizing the league for multiple seasons. I look forward to see their development in parallel.
Ray-Ray Jackson - CB
With the Ninth overall Pick, Honolulu Selects another defensive player in Ray-Ray jackson. It continues to be a theme that developing teams need to keep bolstering their defense so that they can eventually start to compete with more developed teams. Ray-RAy jackson is extremely developed already with over 260 tpe and looks to be another among the great amount of defensive talent on the team. With a bolstered secondary, Honlulu looks to stifle the passing game and make it harder for their opponents to score. It will be excited to see if Ray-Ray Jackson stands out among the rest of the defensive players taken so far in this round.
L'Carpetron Dookmarriot - S
With the Tenth Pick, The wraiths look to boster a strong defense by adding a Safety to help out the secondary. Dookmarriot has focused mainly on speed and should have no problem commanding the field from the back and making sure there are no breakaway or wide open plays in the air while he's on the field. Since the Wraiths already have pretty solid Safeties in place I believe this is more of a future endevour to help solidify the defense for the future and onwards. I think the Wraiths are already in a position to compete so hopefully they have a good chance at winning a championship in the near future bolstered with pickup for their defense.
Bob Bob - S
With the Eleventh pick, Another Safety goes off the board in the first round. The otters are another team that is already well developed and looking to compete. With a solid pickup in the defense sector they look to continue developing and managing a strong defense that helps choke the opponents offense and puts the otters offense in good positions to succeed. Bob Bob is already incredibly well developed at over 270 tpe and has a chance since they appear to possibly be staying down at having a chance to come in later in the NSFL with a great push for Rookie of the year. It is yet to be seen if they have what it takes but they've definitely proved they are willing to develop and get better as time goes on.
Dick Thruster - OL
With the twelfth and last pick in the first round, the Yeti come back once again to draft the second offensive player in the draft. While Offensive Linemen generally do not get drafted nearly this early, Dick Thruster has definitely proved their worth as a solid earner and great addition to any locker room. I look forward to him showing everyone how important and impactful us offensive linemen can be. Though only at 220 tpe they definitely have enough time to develop into a stud protecting the quarterback and supporting the run game. Personmanns impacts both on and on the field make him an absolute steal at this point in the draft regardless of position. I can't wait to see how he develops with the current champion Yeti.
Summary:
All in all this draft basically went how I expected it to. Defense is very valuable and almost every team needs defensive development to continue to compete in this league. All of this players are extremely solid and have a chance to make instant impacts on whatever team they're on. The only real standout would probably be Thruster getting picked in the first round, but I can't totally understand how they drafted where they did. It surprises me that the champion yeti got to have two picks in the first round but I'm sure they just played their cards correctly. Some of the developing teams where able to make great picks and bolster positions that needed instant production so hopefully that helps those teams out. The lack of offense is probably not a big deal considering that there was such a big class previously and most of the skill positions are basically at capacity. I would have like to be picked up higher in this draft but I totally understand where there is a bit of worry about me previously going IA and my position not being sought after. I hope I can prove everybody wrong though as I try to continue and develop as well as provide for my team however possible. Its yet to see how this draft will work out in the future but I see a lot of potential studs and hall of famers coming out of this first round with all the amazing defensive talents getting taken currently. I can't wait to see how this draft compares to the next draft and the draft before ours as I'm sure that there is still a ton of talent yet to come and talent already ahead of us. Hopefully though, this draft can go down in history as a great success.
Takeaways: Secondary was definitely a huge need in this draft and it definitely showed in the first round. 5 Safeties going in the first round shows that passing is something that has to be addressed by these defenses as they try to stifle the opposing offenses. Even though defense as whole was the main focus on this draft, I definitely think that the offense will standout from this draft at some point, while defense is a more immediate need, this gives the offense more time then the defense to develop. It would definitely be interesting to go back on this draft on the future and see which side contributed more or less. I think that the Sailfish got the best deal out of the first round as they where able to gain two elite defenders in back to back picks. It probably cost them a lot but I think that the cost will payoff when these two players are contributing.
Personal Notes: When I was being scouted a lot of teams asked me if I were willing to position switch and I told most of them I'd be okay with it. I know teams are just asking because of flexibility but its interesting to see how hard it is to break into the tight end market currently. I'm glad that I was able to be considered and it looks there's an okay chance I get to keep my current position. Hopefully this means I can develop and if the time comes, Im in a good position to help the team out in whatever way possible. I love Arizona and I hope I can help this team achieve a championship. There was some consideration about me possibly being a fullback because of my current stats and I don't think I'd necessarily be opposed to it. That being said, I would like to contribute the the offense in a way that is beneficial to both me getting exposure, and the team being able to succeed and win. I think the biggest issue for my development will mostly be money, since it seems to be the hardest thing to achieve in this league. Hopefully this article helps me out some but I definitely need to figure out some ways to keep earning money in this league as time goes on or I'll start to lag behind the competition too much. I hope to be able to get a league job one day as that would help me out the most but until that happens I just have to make sure to be smart with my money and not waste what I don't have while getting full equipment. I think I'll be good to go this season but next season is when things definitely get a little bit more dicey with the amount money I have.
