Hey everyone, Zach here with episode two of the Crossley Chronicles. Hope you enjoy reading about my week of practice for the Prospect Bowl and my pre-draft scouting discussions. As always feel free to let me know if you have any questions you would like answered in future posts.
Well my first experience with professional football has been fantastic. Workouts with my fellow prospects have been going great and I can’t wait to share the field with these guys during the Prospect Bowl and as we all continue or careers into the DSFL. While I could go into a detailed discussion on almost every prospect here, I want to call out a few people I have enjoyed playing with or against this week.
First, I want to give a huge shout out to Uncle Rico. Dude has been absolutely slinging it during practice and is making all of us wide receivers look good during the 7 on 7 drills. Only downside is how hard he can throw the ball. I feel like I almost broke some fingers catching some of his passes. Dude throws it so hard I would bet that he could throw the ball up over the mountains. Really expecting a big career from this dude.
Second, I want to call out Crayne Whebet. We have instantly hit it off on the practice field as we are very similar type wide receivers. Both of us are under 5’10 and know that our success depends on how quick we can get off the line an create space between us and the corners. While I would love to have him as a teammate, I realize it’s more likely we will have a professional rivalry during our pro careers.
The last player I wanted to specifically mention is James Gath. That man is the hardest corner to beat that I have faced so far in my life. Every move I made I felt he was right there on my hip ready to try and make a play on the ball. We had some battles all week during the drills where each of us kept trying to get the best of one another. I hope we get a chance to play against each other this week in the Prospect Bowl and once we both make it to the DSFL.
One other thing that has shocked me about this training camp is the equipment some guys are bringing to play. I traveled to practice with just my old Tennessee Martin gear and cleats (Go Skyhawks). Some of the guys here showed up in the fanciest equipment I have ever seen in my life. I talked to some asking where they got it and they mentioned dropping 13.5 million on their gear. All said that it is worth that investment to up their game and be ready to dominate at the DSFL level. While it is sad to have to give up my old lucky cleats, I will have to purchase some new equipment before the season begins.
Finally, I want to wrap up with my experience being scouted so far. I have had almost every team from the DSFL reach out to me to have preliminary discussions. I feel that the talks with the scouts have gone well and my agent has been telling me he is trying to work his magic behind the scenes to secure me a high of a draft pick as possible. I just want to reiterate what I have been saying since I declared for the draft, I am ready for any opportunity any DSFL team will give me during next week’s draft.
My next post will come after the prospect bowl where I will breakdown my performance during the games. Hope you all enjoy watching.
