Hey guys Zach Crossley here. I wanted to do a quick post to discuss my perspective on ISFL expansion from the position of a DSFL rookie.
As I assume you know, our commissioner announced today that the ISFL will be expanding with two new teams joining the league next season. While I could go into my thoughts on how the expansion process is set up, I am far to new to the league to offer any real insight from that perspective. Instead I wanted to share how the expansion news makes me feel as a new player in the DSFL who will be drafted into the ISFL next season.
First and foremost, the news has me very excited for the current status and interest in the league. Expansion would only be necessary due to a large number of players joining the league, (like my massive draft class) so this makes me believe that interest in the ISFL is growing. While we always need to be weary of expanding to much and hurting the quality of the league, more teams does mean more opportunities for players and staff to find the right fit and their place within the ISFL.
While I obviously am a long way from being drafted, I do think expansion will help all the S25 ISFL rookies make their transition to the league a little bit easier. More teams mean more positions to be filled and talent will now be spread out among 2 additional teams. I think we will see some fantastic rookie campaigns in S25 as there will just be more opportunity for the rookies to shine. Additionally, I think that the rookies picked onto the expansion teams are presented with a unique opportunity. These locker rooms are going to be a new feeling for all the players on the expansion roster. The S25 rookies will not have to join an existing locker room that already has its own culture set up. Instead the rookies will be able to help develop that culture themselves and we may see more leaders coming from the S25 class because of it.
Outside of the S25 rookies, I think this also gives Vets and front offices a new challenge as well. Obviously, some vets will be drafted by these expansion teams, and be placed in an unfamiliar role. This may be the new start a vet needs to really take control of their career and become a star in a new ISFL market. For those who want to be a general manager for a team this also provides a chance for two newcomers to step into the role. These new teams will present a lot of opportunity for those eager to take the next step in their career to shine.
Finally, I want to talk about what I think this means for fans of the ISFL. First, we will have two new markets that are getting teams. We are expanding our game to new cities and with it will come a huge increase in our popularity. In addition, fans of DSFL market teams now are more likely to see their favorite players make an impact on the ISFL level more rapidly. Your favorite DSFL player is likely to make an impact much faster under this new arrangement. However, I also realize fans of existing ISFL teams may lose some of their favorite players to the expansion draft, or DSFL fans may not see their guy play two seasons for the team anymore. As a player I will say this, we love all of you fans and make sure to leave it all on the field for you every week we play. We hope you will continue to support us wherever our career takes us and we will continue to deliver on the promise to give you the best football we can.
I hope you all are as excited for S25 ISFL expansion as I am.
Much Luv,
Zach
