Well, well, well. The DSFL draft is over, pre-season starts this week and we are definitely going to have an interesting season to look forward to, but before all that, before the smack talking, the broken dreams, the valor and accomplishments we will look at a roster and try to find out some potential standout players. A preview if you would, use it for fantasy, use it for personal knowledge, use it how you like, but today we will be going over the Pythons roster and trying to figure out some breakout players for them in this upcoming DFSL season.
1. Sam Howitzer (QB)
Man watch out for this guy, with a staggering 385 TPE, even if he hasn't used it all, is amazing for a DFSL quarterback. With amazing attributes like, 80 arm strength, 80 throwing accuracy, and 80 intelligence this guy is the real deal and one of the reasons I believe a bounce back season from the Pythons is very possible, if not probable. While I would like to see him start to max out some of those stats even without it he is still one of the most formidable QBs in this year and I would definitely look at him if I was drafting my DFSL fantasy team.
2. Nick Marksman (TE)
A tight end? Why a tight end? Well first off, this is PorTEland, second off this tight end can line at wide receiver very nicely with his blazing for a tight end, 82 speed, solid hands to boot and a little bit of blocking in the mix as well. Marksman reminds me more of Evan Engram type TE and less of a Rob Gronkowski tight end and he should be lined up and used accordingly in a Pythons offsense that looks more and more deadly by the day.
3. Dave Batista (TE)
Okay, now here is your Rob Gronkoski type tight end, the dude is strong, quick, though not as quick as Marksman, and can block, this guy is another offensive lineman on the field and a very viable target. While I believe most of the targets should funnel into Marksman this guy is not only a good stash if you're playing dynasty but also should get some looks in what I am going to assume is a very two tight end set heavy Pythons offense and likely going to be the beneficiary target of the future with the only question being, is he going to be catching targets from Howitzer in this future.
4. Davriel Lavigne (S)
Now you don't think this article wouldn't include the number one pick? Of course I wouldn't and boy is there a lot to like about this pick. 80 speed for a safety in the DSFL is well above average, he has speed to cover people in zone, he has tackling ability so he can be placed in the box easily, he has some catching ability too, which most DB's do not possess. I can see this guy getting stats like crazy in this upcoming year.
5. Buster Bawlls (RB)
I think this guy is going to be a sleeper candidate, maybe not someone who tears the world apart at the start of the season but I believe as the season goes on the more this guy is going to improve the more likely it is this guy produces better and better numbers late, I think this guy could be your late round fantasy winner pick. As of right now he has 72 strength and 70 speed on top of run blocking and some pass catching to boot, this guy is going to be a stud late in the season.
Something I wanted to talk about while looking over this roster is how many people they have at secondary positions that can block, tight end, running backs, on top of their offensive line. One thing that is extremely under rated about this team is their ability to block and get multiple blockers on a single play. So you could see a lot of sets where they will have multiple blockers to help pass protect and keep their QB upright or give their running back lanes, and then in plays later those same blockers could be targets. This team is going to confuse and make life frustrating for opposing defenses to plan against and I think that element of surprise alone will have this team winning more games then it did last season.
