I'm putting this draft board together from the perspective of an expansion GM... So I am going to go into a bit more detail on both of the expansion teams (Berlin Fire Salamanders and New York Silverbacks) picks to hopefully accrue that 1.5x bonus for the extra focus.
I have just taken the standings as though the league finished today (09/11) minus the trade between the Wraiths and the Silverback) and even then it may not be entirely accurate. There is a good chance I have missed out some already processed trades as I have only gone as far back as last year's draft – I am still getting used to this as I am sure you have already heard.
The majority of these are just in max TPE order unless I know someone has a league job or wants to go somewhere and even then I may completely disregard this. With the possibility of position changes and the expansion draft changing everything I did not want to go too deeply in to picking positions.
1.1) Berlin Fire Salamanders - James Gath – Corner Back
I am being slightly biased in my selection here picking one of my fellow grey ducks but hear me out. You are an expansion team looking to prove a point and lay the foundations to becoming a force in the International Simulation Football League. This man is a leader in the locker room and dominant on the field. You may ask why do you select a Corner Back first overall, never mind the one who has earned the fifth most TPE this season? The answer to that is simple, if you –prevent your oppositions wide receiver’s getting open it allows your defensive line more time to get to the quarterback. You then add to the fact he sent a dick pic into a team chat and did not delete it just shows this player is the alpha of the draft and why he should be a lock for this pick. Never mind the added bonus of the program he developed which is exclusive to his team for the duration of his rookie contract. What better incentive is there for an expansion team to draft this player with their first pick? I’ll tell you… none!
1.2) New York Silverbacks (Yellowknife Wraiths) - Tex Wrecks – Defensive End
We have a trade and it’s a wise move here for the Wraiths to move up the board and get not only the best defensive player of the class but also the highest earner of the class. Couple that with the fact he has a fantastic sig shop and the class is shallow at defensive end. This pick is a winner for me and helps fill an important need for the Wraiths. Expect him to start from week 1 and dominate for seasons to come. Tex has the second most tackles for loss the season only behind rookie Slayer who plys his trade for the Portland Pythons. As well as the tackles for loss Wrecks has 3 sacks to his name.
1.3) Philadelphia Liberty – Medicinal Tolberone – Offensive Line
The Liberty get the top Linemen of the draft that shores up very leaky offensive line. Toblerone is incredibly flexible and solid at centre, guard and tackle. Now I am well aware that Toblerone is New Orleans daft. However you cannot allow a vet like this to slip through your grasp. Who knows it may even be time for a change of scenery? With no additional TPE added Medicinal Toblerone is being drafted with the base model for their position. Do not let this fool you though, as Toblerone is the third highest earner in this class allowing the Liberty to sculpt this player in the way they feel best helps the offence succeed.
1.4) Baltimore Hawks (San Jose Sabercats) - Donald McBobby – Line Backer
Our second trade sees the Sabercats making their first pick of the draft. I could have seen them going corner back here but the best available is a General Manager of an expansion team so that will not be happening. Do they care? Do they **** they are getting the best earning line backer in the draft who is a real team leader. I would not be surprised if they name this player a captain before the season starts. Donald McBobby’s motto is the same as that of Ricky Bobby from Talladega Nights “if you are not first you are last”. Losing is not an option with this stud on your team. Expect a change in mentality on this team and merch sales to sky rocket. McBobby is one of 3 rookies in this year’s class that have recorded a safety this season. On top of that you can add his 82 tackles, 6 sacks and 1 interception. I think it is fair to say these are impressive stats for our first line backer off the board.
1.5) New York Silverbacks – Goat Tank –Defensive Tackle
Now you might be expecting a quarterback to go here, especially being a market team. But the Silverbacks took care of that when they traded back and picked up max earning quarter back Sam Howitzer. Now that they have their QB of the future the Silverbacks select second highest earner of this draft and best defensive tackle slips to the fifth overall pick I hear you ask why? There is a simple explanation for this and it is due to the program our number 1 pick James Gath developed. You then have the highest earner going in the slot the Silverbacks traded out of and offensive line and line backer are bigger needs for the Butchers and Hawks respectively. Nonetheless Goat Tank is a solid acquisition and a player who will definitely be an anchor for the Liberty defence. A few of you may be querying is this a real name? It is not Goat Tanks birth name when he was 18 he legally changed it, growing up as a kid “Goat Tank” was in love with the cartoon Wacky Races. He was obsessed with The Army Surplus Special car, driven by Sergeant Blast and Private Meekly. Goat Tank is absolute Behemoth on the field, he is playing defensive tackle but yet he has 53 tackles, 6 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 3 fumbles recovered. It does feel criminal having the Goat drop this far back but sometimes this happens.
1.6) Austin Copperheads (Baltimore Hawks) – Hank Winchester –Line Backer
With the final trade of the first round the Hawks are absolutely thrilled to get the man they would have selected at four had the pick not already been traded. Winchester brings a wealth of experience to the league and knows exactly what to do to maximise his players abilities and capabilities, could well be an immediate starter. Winchester might have 2 less tackles than the player drafted directly after him. However, what gives Winchester the slight edge over his counterpart is he has 3 more tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles and 2 sacks. Making him more of a game wrecker than Fields.
1.7) Chicago Butchers – Guy Fields – Line Backer
Fields is our third line backer off the board in the last 4 picks! The Butchers are getting a player here that was no doubt highly sought after. He might not be the highest earner but let us be serious here Fields was no slouch with 214 TPE. Despite being a solid player and earner Fields real value comes from his off-field abilities. His user has an exceptional talent when it comes to making sigs and will also run a ton of simulations for you. Fields has been the standout rookie in this year’s ISFL as he leads them all with 108 tackles in his 13 game career with many comparing him to Luke Kuechly.
1.8) Arizona Outlaws – Raylan Crowder – Defensive End
This pick may look like a slight reach to some but to me it makes perfect sense, given his commitment to the cause and desire to improve. Before we go any further into this pick Crowder is the first of any of the quartets (Horsemen) to go off the board. Now there may be some animosity in the outlaws head office that has recently come to light, they will have constructed a board throughout the course of the season and a falling out is not going to change that. The outlaws need help on the defensive front and Crowder is not going to fall to them in the second. Crowder loves Arizona he follows the Cardinals and bases his game off former Ultimate Fighting Championship Light-Heavyweight legend Jon Jones younger brother Chandler Jones who is a monster in his own right. Crowder was rather shaky at the start of his Birddog career, what is worth noting is he put on some serious pounds as the weeks went by. Suddenly he started making plays. Crowder also recruited a strong quartet that refers to themselves as “The Turtles” we’ll have more on them later. Crowder so far this season has made 43 tackles 10 for a loss and 3 sacks through 13 games.
1.9) San Jose Sabercats – Rich Triplet – Corner Back
I see the Sabercats going for a defensive back here and it really was a coin flip between Dan Foster and Rich Triplet and I see them selecting the latter here. My reasoning behind that is simple, Triplet has been active on the forums but has also already recruited players for the upcoming S26 ISFL Draft. If these recruits stick around it is practically free TPE for Triplet, which will only increase his playmaking ability and of course adds value to your draft stock. As well as this he has made 44 tackles, forced and recovered 1 fumble and had 1 interception. This just highlights his playmaking ability.
1.10) Honolulu Hahalua – Albert Ruschman – Defensive End
A solid pick up here for the Hahalua adding to their defensive front picking up Ruschman he may not be the biggest earner of TPE this year but he has still earned a very good amount. You add that in with the fact he does sim work and has a wiki job the Hahalua are not only getting a solid player who has the potential to be a peripheral figure for the team. They are also getting a guy that will support and help improve the franchise. In Ruschman’s 13 starts he has made 31 tackles, 14 of which were for a loss and 5 sacks. Solid numbers for a starter that will only get better as he gets more reps and experience.
1.11) New Orleans Secondline – Felix Archstone – Offensive Line
Unfortunately for the Secondline their ideal pick was nabbed early this round by Philadelphia. So here I see New Orleans selecting the second highest earning linemen in this year’s draft Felix Archston to protect their quarterback. The potential for this player is huge he is a General Manager for the Kansas City Coyote’s so clearly has a wealth of experience. New Orleans could do much worse here.
1.12) Orange County Otters – Harley Fank – Wide receiver
With their first selection of the draft I have the Otters taking Fank this is the first offensive skill position off the board and for good reason. With this pick the otters are getting experience and the highest earning Wide Receiver in the draft, what is not to love?
1.13) Saracosta Sailfish – Dan Foster – Corner Back
The Sailfish select Foster here to add some depth to their already impressive backfield. He is a draftee that joined the league through reddit and has been incredibly solid in adding TPE and every opportunity that has been available. Worth mentioning that he has 2 interceptions and 13 passes defended through 13 games and he may still add to those totals before the season is complete.
1.14) ColoradoYeti – Vance Slattery – Defensive Tackle
The Yeti are getting a higher earning disruptive force to spearhead their defensive front. He is the second highest earning defensive tackle after the Tank. This pick could have gone either way between Slattery and Honky Tonk Haywood but Slattery is given the nod purely down to the fact he has been more destructive. He has 4 tackles for a loss and 2 sacks in 13 games.
2.1) Berlin Fire Salamanders – Tayshawn Crunk – Free Safety
Here the Fire Salamanders add to their backfield by adding Tayshawn Crunk from the London Royals. He is active on forums and discord as well as writing an abundance of media to keep the cash flowing. I would describe this man as a defensive vulture as evidenced by his league leading 4 picks, returning 1 for a touchdown. He also has 48 tackles through 13 games which is lower than some of the others that play in this position. The reason he goes here and not later? The first key part is TPE. The second, it is easy to get a Safety that can tackle, what is not easy is finding one that can change the game in a blink of an eye and give the offence great field position. The Fire Salamanders appear to be sticking to that old saying defence wins championships
2.2) New York Silverbacks (Yellowknife Wraiths) – Adam Mellot – Offensive Line
Another one of the picks for the wraiths acquired in the monster trade completed a few days ago. Here they select the best linemen available to protect their quarterback. Mellot is pass blocking lineman but he has committed to putting in the extra work to improving his blocking for the run. Linemen are a dime a dozen in this league so when one as good as Mellot falls to you here you need to take him.
2.3) Philadelphia Liberty – Mike Rotchburns – Running Back
If it wasn’t for the the two expansion teams Liberty would be picking first every round, unfortunately for them they are picking third every round (barring any trades). That being said a big reason you finish last is because you do not have enough playmakers. Here the Liberty select the second Grey Duck off the board in Rotchburns, what they are getting here is a solid runner. The man is basically a vending machine with legs, he is not easy to bring down. He averages 4.6 yards per carry in a terrible Grey Ducks offence and has run it in for 6 touchdowns this season.
2.4) Baltimore Hawks – L’Gazzy Burfict – Line Backer
The hawks are getting a bad ass dude here to spearhead their line backing corps. If you are familiar with the Surname Burfict I can confirm L’Gazzy is a distant relative of the Vontaze Burfict. As hard hitting as they come Burfict is going to help shore up a very leaky Hawks defence.
2.5) Yellowknife Wraiths (New York Silverbacks) – Duckberg Quakstak – Corner Back – General Manager
The Silverbacks are about to start a trend here by selecting their General Manager with their second pick. It made sense for them to trade back seeing as they are forced into this pick. Quakstak is the fourth highest earner in this draft so it is undoubtedly still a fantastic pickup for them and they managed to obtain other key pieces via the trade. QuakStak has made 2 interceptions this season and has forced one fumble.
2.6) Austin Copperheads – Jackie Daytona – Quarterback – General Manager
The Copperheads look to have unfortunately made themselves a lock to finish this year’s draft with the worst grade out of all eligible teams. Do not get me wrong Daytona is the highest earning quarterback when it comes to TPE in the draft. But let us take that into context, there is only 4 quarterbacks in the draft, 2 of them are inactive and have been since the before the last draft. The closest contender to them is the Grey Ducks quarterback and even then he doesn’t really appear to have any interest in pursuing a career in the DSFL. This pick is a better pick for round 4-7 but the Copperheads have no choice but to take their General Manager here. Will this move work out in the long run? I am sceptical to say the least but only time will tell.
2.7) Chicago Butchers (Honolulu Hahalua) – Davriel Lavigne – Strong Safety – General Manager
Back to back General Manager picks, but I have to say these two selections are like chalk and cheese when you compare them. I had Lavigne going late in the first but due to the General Manager rule he falls to Hahalua midway through the second. What Hahalua are getting here is not only their General Manager but the highest earning Safety entering this year’s draft. He racked up 60 tackles, 2 interceptions and 2 sacks through the first 13 games this season.
2.8) Arizona Outlaws – Richard Leaking – Line Backer
The outlaws continue to build on a strength here by drafting their second Dallas Birddog. Leaking has formed somewhat of a connection with fellow draftee Raylan Crowder. This is a great pickup for the Outlaws and when you include the Crowder pick it gives their defence much added youth to infuse with the experience that is already there. Leaking’s stats are very impressive and it almost feels criminal having him drop this far. The reason he has is purely down to the strength of this year’s line backers, it is probably the strongest position group in this year’s draft. Leaking has racked up an impressive 97 tackles, 8 sacks and 9 passes defending which shows he is a complete all-rounder. If I was to rate this pick I would say A+.
2.9) San Jose Sabercats – Peter Patterson – Corner Back
Here the Sabercats add to their secondary and pick up a solid corner. There’s not much more I can say about this player other than he will be a good earner based on the articles he has written. His stats are pretty impressive as well recording 60 tackles, 1 forced fumble with a recovery, 3 interceptions and 12 passes defended.
2.10) Honolulu Hahalua – Jameson Vermillion – Running Back
Honolulu make their first offensive pick of the draft and surprise some folk by picking up Grey Ducks running back Vermillion. But if you take a closer look at his numbers the only surprise here is that he has fallen to them, now I appreciate he may not have that many rushing touchdowns (4) but he has over 1000 rushing yards whilst sharing the load with other star running back Mike Rotchburns. He has the longest rush in the league this season with an impressive 89 yards which I do not think will be beaten. Vermillion should put up better numbers coming out the backfield with a more competent quarterback throwing him the ball.
2.11) New Orleans Secondline – Djibutee McJimmerson – Tight End
Secondline select their tight end of the future securing McJimmerson here. He is the second highest earning tight end in this draft behind Yeti General Manager Batista but behind these two it is quite a significant drop in quality. McJimmerson has shown himself as a redzone threat by catching 3 TDs in only 23 targets, personally I think he is not being utilized.
2.12) Orange County Otters – Killian Chambers – Wide receiver
The otters select their second wide receiver to inject youth to an aging group. Chambers numbers aren’t impressive but having played and practiced with him I know he is a solid acquisition and once again if it was not for inept quarterback play Chambers numbers would be at least double what they are now.
2.13) Saracosta Sailfish – Gary Goodman – Line Backer
The Sailfish once again add to defence and pick up Goodman here. There is not anything this man cannot do on defence he is exceptional in pass coverage as shown with his 8 passes defended. He has 91 tackles 3 of which were for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 3 interceptions. Sailfish are delighted to get their man here without the need to trade up.
2.14 Colorado Yeti – Dave Batista – Tight End – General Manager
The Yeti pick up their General Manager Dave Batista (not to be confused with ex WWE wrestler and failed actor (minus his role as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy). Batista is the best tight end in the draft and this is an absolute steal coming in at pick 28. I would have him as a late first /early second round pick if it was not for the General Manager rule. Do you think the Yeti care? The answer to that would be no, this is where the General Manager rules works in a team’s favour.
3.1) Berlin Fire Salamanders – Jake Fencik – Kicker / Punter
The salamanders get their special team’s guy. A much undervalued position here and The Fire Salamanders do well to nab the best kicker in the draft. It may be considered a reach but this is a need for all teams and Fencik is miles ahead of the next best kicker. There may be players with more TPE but this is the sensible pick and allows the Salamanders freedom to select best player available throughout the rest of the draft.
3.2) Yellowknife Wraiths – Mark Callous – Wide Receiver
With their penultimate pick of the monster trade with the Silverbacks the Wraiths select Callous, he will most likely spend another year down in the rookie league but expect him to be a starter year 2 for the Wraiths.
3.3) Philadelphia Liberty – Jimi De Sotto – Line backer
The Liberty finally pick up a defensive player in Sea Wolves star De Sotto. De Sotto comes in to add much needed defensive support to a team beginning a complete overhaul, De Sotto is a solid pick up here. He is active off the field as he is on it so expect him to earn plenty cash to allow him to pay for training and equipment as and when he needs. His on field stats show his playmaking ability, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions and 71 tackles. This is the turning point for the Liberty’s defence.
3.4 Baltimore Hawks (Chicago Butchers) – Jeeeeroy Lenkins – Corner Back
The Butchers select the first turtle off the board and pick up a corner back here that they select with the future in mind. He has been a solid earner when he has not been on Dennis Rodman like benders. He recently missed 3 weeks’ worth of sim time but has reassured the staff this is behind him (at least for now). Now whilst Lenkins does not do any sigs or have any league jobs he is dedicated to improving and has not ruled out taking up a role to support his team in the future. What brings Lenkins here a head of many higher earning players and players with jobs within the league is that he has come out and openly said he is willing to change position/build to help support the team. On top of this he has said he does not mind spending another couple more seasons with the Grey Ducks. What makes this pick interesting as well is that when he does finally get called up to the Butchers he may well end up being in the backfield with his General Manager Tyron Shields. Lenkins has rather bizarre stats this season, he has 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, 42 tackles and only 1 pass defended. That being said he has spent most of his time in the slot and has been sharing the workload.
3.5 Yellowknife Wraiths – Lionel Rumper – Strong Safety
The Wraiths select Rumper the second of the Horsemen off the board. I do not know much about this player but Raylan Crowder speaks highly of him. He recorded 50 tackles this season whilst making 2 sacks and 2 interceptions. Solid pick up for the Wraiths.
3.6 Copperheads (unofficial trade) New York Silverbacks) - Chuck Roth – Offensive Line
The Silverbacks got their first quarterback of the franchise in the trade that saw them move back 3 in the first and second round and they have now traded up to add one of the best offensive linemen in the draft. I have no idea how he fell this far (I had him going to the Silverbacks in the second round until I remembered the General Manager rule). Now if you want your quarterback to have long, successful, prosperous career you need to protect him. Saying that Silverbacks select the best lineman in available in Chuck Roth. Roth has been an ever present in a solid run blocking line for the Portland Pythons. The Pythons fans have actually started calling their offensive linemen the freeway due to how easy it is for them to create lanes for their backs. They have two running backs and a full back by the name of Buster “Boulder” Bawls who have together combined for over 1500 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns, a big reason for this Roth’s dominance on the offensive front.
3.7) Chicago Butchers (Colorado Yeti) - Tony Yeboah – Strong Safety
The Yeti are delighted with this pick acquired from the Butchers. Yeboah is a hard a hitting run stuffing safety who likes to play close to the line. He has 5 sacks and 64 tackles. He doesn’t do any sim testing because he has a MAC. But despite his inability to support on that front he is very active in his team’s discord and war room. Another solid pick here at the mid-way point of the third that will slot in nicely into the Yeti locker room. Not only is he a leader in the locker room but also of the turtles, a very sound well rounded player.
3.8) Arizona Outlaws – Rusty Rucker – Line Backer
The Outlaws are a team that do not like doing business with any team and despite having offers from multiple teams to trade up their General Manager has zero interest in listening to them. The Outlaws select Rusty Rucker who at this time in the draft is a great pick. He has been impressive against the run with 4 tackles for a loss (80 across the board), he has 5 sacks and passes defending. Whether or not Rucker pulls an Eli Manning like move here remains to be seen but as things stand he is an Outlaw. Rucker is also a big earner with the media he writes expect this to continue as the seasons go by. Rucker is the third of the Horsemen off the board and is the reason a few of us are in the league.
3.9) San Jose Sabercats – Honky Tonk Haywood – Defensive Tackle
This man has my favourite name in this year’s draft class, he could well go higher than this but if he makes it this far it is a great pickup. He only has 1 sack but defensive tackles main role is to stuff the run. They really are the unsung heroes of defence.
3.10) Honolulu Hahalua (Chicago Butchers) – Xmus Flaxon Waxon – Jaxon (Strong Safety)
With their second pick of the round the Butchers select the third turtle off the board and the most creative one with, Flaxon Waxon-Jaxon here to support their secondary. With this selection they do not only get a player who dominates against the run but he also does a lot for your team. He does sim-testing and has probably the best sig shop in the business (bold claim I know) but you should check it out and then tell me I’m wrong. He has however done nothing against the pass with 0 interceptions and 0 passes defended but that’s not how he’s been deployed. If required I have no doubt he can cover against the pass. The question is would you want to take him out of a dominant run defence/pass rush (6 sacks). With this pick it looks like the Butchers are trying to build their own version of the Legion of Boom.
3.11 New Orleans Secondline – Buster “Boulder Bawls” – Running Back (Full Back)
This is the ideal landing spot for Buster he loves everything about New Orleans, the food (he’ll eat a few businesses out of stock but they will not care). He is the last of the turtles off the board but that will just feul him to do better. He is a bit of a hot head so if he is asked to move position, expect confrontation. Buster is as volatile as they come but do not take this as a bad thing, it is purely driven by his passion for the game. Buster is the perfect if you are looking for a guy to pick up the short tight yards or goal line scrimmages. Just jump up behind him and watch him bulldoze his way to the end zone.
3.12 – Orange County Otters – Sheed Thebaw – Defensive Tackle
The Otters get their nose tackle of the future with this pick. Thebaw is last Horsemen to go but do not let that discredit his ability though. He has two tackles for a loss and 2 sacks which is decent numbers for a nose tackle in his first season. He has been a solid earner and has over 200 TPE this season which means he will most likely meet cap come the end of the off season.
3.13) Saracosta Sailfish (Orange County Otters) - Clay Stallworth – Offensive Line
The sailfish with back to back picks add some much needed fire power to their offensive line. Stallworth is a steal this late in the draft and the sky really is the limit for him. Like his name suggests he is a susceptiable to the odd false start penalty here and there but he will help you dominate in both the running and passing game.
3.14) Colorado Yeti – Darren Pama – Running Back
With the final pick of my mock draft the Yeti select the running back out of Portland. They definitely have their eyes on the future with this pick but Pama is a great earner. Pama runs behind that line that their fans have dubbed “The Freeway” and despite having a shared load his numbers are pleasant on the eye averaging 3.9 yards per carry totalling to 788 yards, he also has 4 touchdowns to his name.
