Disclaimer: This draft re-grade is done purely from a sim performance perspective. TPE weighs in very little to the article, and the users themselves are not accounted for at all. I’ve had a blast with every single active MB rookie and would recommend all of them to any ISFL LR lucky enough to have them. Same to AW13/Thor for putting up with us.
With the closing of S24, it’s time to look back on the S25 MB Draft and re-evaluate the picks with what we saw on the field this year. Overall, most of the grades remained relatively the same, with several gems found in later rounds by the MB Drafting Team. As usual we will be utilizing the Myrtle Beach patented Shrimp Scale of Excellence, which gives a rating of 1-5 shrimp with 5 shrimp being the best grade possible. (Because shrimp are delicious and a staple in the South Carolinean diet.)
Goat Tank, DT – Pick #3
Pick Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
Nothing changes here, if anything I was tempted to give this pick a bonus shrimp because of what GoatTank brings to the field AND the locker room. As a rookie he was easily the best DT in the league, and arguably the DPotY. Whether he wins that award or not is up to the committee, but to even be in the running for that as both a rookie and DT is amazing. He stuffed the middle in the run game and still had the motor and ability to track down the QB whenever they dropped back, showcased with 7 sacks.
Key Stat: 3 Forced Fumbles, 3 Fumble Recoveries, 7 Sacks. Disgusting.
James Hoffman, CB – Pick #11
Pick Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
This re-grade might be a little surprising to those that were less plugged into the DSFL. This man did not have the best year on the stat sheet, numbers are numbers. But anyone worth their salt know that’s a good CB, especially one that is covering WR1s, is often a shadow on the stat sheet. The fact he doesn’t show up much is because his coverage was so tight that QBs were just too scared to throw at him. No WR exceled against him. Overall a great and underrated rookie year.
Key Stats: 12 Pass Defences on limited targets.
Hank Winchester, LB – Pick #19
Pick Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
If you’re noticing a trend here, then it should be becoming obvious that the Buccs had a great draft. Winchester is an under the radar DRotY candidate who was a force in between the hashmarks. He had good play recognition logging a close 2nd in rookie tackles for linebackers, and was an opportunist with multiple turnovers. Getting him in the 3rd round was good business, and he should slot into most ISFL linebacker corps with ease.
Key Stats: 111 tackles, 2 sacks,2 Forced Fumbles.
Jackie Daytona, QB - Pick #27
Pick Grade: 4/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 4/5 Shrimp
I’m giving the Daytona pick a 4/5 not because of his play, but because of how he was used. Recognition for attempting the 2 qb system, but the volume limitations and split carries ended up being more detrimental and probably could’ve used the pick for another position or given him the leading role to start.
With that said, when Daytona played, he played admirably and worthy of a high rounder. I’m going to focus on his games after the Holloway switch to WR as an evaluation. He actually got progressively better, capping off the season with a 225 yd 4 TD game against the quack birds. Most importantly, he seemed to have solved the Buccaneers turnover woes with just 1 interception in that span, which gives him am 8/1 TD to INT ratio.
Key Stats: 2 TD 0.25 INT Average/Game, 92.2 AVG Passer Rating
Alex Reed, WR – Pick #35
Pick Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
Reed was quietly close to the best rookie WR by seasons end, almost leading in every category. (KC’s Whebet lead by a small margin with higher volume). Reed was certainly made the most of his targets with a rookie leading 11.9 YPA. If you give him the same volume as Whebet, he ends up being the top in every category. He quickly became the QBs favorite target by seasons end and should continue that trend. Good grab in round 5.
Key Stats: 11.9 YPA, 5 TDs
Dexter Jackson, LB - Pick #43
Pick Grade: 4/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 3/5 Shrimp
Jackson is a talented player who was drafted into a rotational role, so his impact wasn’t felt as heavily. I downgrade the pick here because it was a BPA vs Need pick that didn’t materialize into a starter by seasons end, just due to the veteran in front of him. He was solid when in however, and I think he will be a force in the ISFL with more volume. He really shined in the pass rush and disrupting the thrower, showcasing a high motor to get to the QB and read passing lanes, which leads me to believe that he could further develop into an edge rushing specialist or possibly move to a defensive end position.
Key Stats: 6 Sacks, 1 INT, 8 Pass Defenses
Djibutee McJimmerson, TE – Pick #51
Pick Grade: 3/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 5/5 Shrimp (Biased AF)
McJimmerson was a steal in the 7th round. He’s developed into a top 3 round guy, and was a heavy contributor in the run blocking and redzone passing game. He led all TE’s (not just rookies) in pancakes and did not give up a single sack all season. While he wasn’t a deep threat or a large yardage receiver, he was sure handed in the endzone turning in 3 TDs. He filled the role of multi-purpose TE well for Myrtle Beach, with veteran Ne Mo being the vertical TE threat and Spladle working the other end of the line in 3 TE sets.
Key Stats: 3 TDs on 23 Targets, 23 Pancakes, 0 Sacks Allowed
Jake Sackson, DE – Pick #59
Pick Grade: 3/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 2/5 Shrimp
Sackson seemed like a good pick out of the gate but never really developed over the season. He still provided a presence on the line and rushing the passer, where he put up a sack on the season. He was also involved in several tackles for loss in the backfield, as well as a forced fumble. There’s still hope he finds his form and practice ethos in S25 and sees more reps as a veteran.
Key Stats: 7 TFL, 1 Sack
Zach Crossley, WR – Pick #67
Pick Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
Another pick that I would call a steal and wish I could avoid extra shrimp grades to. Crossley was the yin to Reeds yang, wreaking havoc on the opposing teams secondaries. He showed he doesn’t have a weak side to his game, putting up solid numbers in every category. He really had a nose for the ball once Myrtle Beach made it into the redzone, with 6 TD catches.
Key Stats: 6 TDs, 18% TD/catch ratio.
Medicinal Toblerone – Pick #75
Pick Grade: 4/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 3/5 Shrimp
Toblerone was an average pick at 75 looking back. As noted in my previous article, he would either be a star or a solid role player in the Buccs trench. He put up a solid effort in both the passing and run game, and was constantly seen working in the gym. We just never saw that raw potential unleashed on the field. I would look for him to wow some heads with his intangibles in the ISFL so long as he works on his pass protection.
Key Stats: 30 pancakes, 4 sacks allowed.
Troy Watson, DE – Pick #83
Pick Grade: 2/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 1/5 Shrimp
This one is tough. Watson was mostly invisible for the season, with the only notable stat being 3 tackles. He may end up being a solid role player down the line, assuming any of the starting DEs move up to the ISFL. Some picks just don’t work out, and there’s no shame in that this late in the draft.
Key Stats: 3 Tackles
Leo Bloomfield, K - Pick #91
Pick Grade: 3/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 4/5 Shrimp
I had previously given this grade 3/5 because Leo was an unknown and kicker is not a sexy pick. But after the season, he was invaluable to the team when the offense (often) stalled. He wasn’t the best kicker, but he was a great selection for Myrtle Beach because even with the win from the ocean, the man was automatic from within 40 yards, not missing a single kick within that range. He needs to work on his range after that, but that will come with more experience. He also was very solid in punt duties, leading the league in punt yards. Look for him to continue being a dual threat legman.
Key Stat: 3773 yards punting, 33/35 XP, 13 FG Made
Teddy Utterstruzen, S – Pick #99
Pick Grade: 3/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
This man was quite the surprise, especially at the beginning of the season where he rushed out of the gate as a turnover machine. While he slowed down as the season went on, he was always contributing in some way. Teddy got moved around the field a lot under the coaches direction, and it was to utilize him to his fullest potential. His measurables aren’t the highest, but he has some crazy intangibles and should continue succeeding. With what he put on the field, he should’ve gone in the first 4 rounds easily. Steal. He will probably be in Myrtle Beach for one more year to build up for the punishing ISFL, so we might get to see him continue to galvanize this defense with his prolific playmaking ability.
Key Stats: 3 Sacks, 3 Interceptions, 3 Pass Defenses, 1 Safety
Brandon Kirwin, WR – Pick #107
Pick Grade: 2/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 2/5 Shrimp
Kirwin ended up being what we thought he would be as a rotational WR who could contribute when called on. While he wasn’t asked to do much, he did get a TD out of his 4 catches. Unfortunately when Holloway transitioned to WR, Kirwin was surplus to the WR corps and didn’t see the field the final 3 games. Look for him to take up the WR2 or WR3 role again in S25.
Key Stats: 4 Catches, 1 TD, .25 TD/catch ratio
Gabr Spladle, TE – Pick #115
Pick Grade: 2/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 2/5 Shrimp
Spladle was also a rotational role player who didn’t dress for every game. When used, he employed mostly as a blocker and did not give up a single sack all season, while posting 4 pancakes. He should continue to block for Myrtle Beach next season and contribute more in the passing game depending on how the S25 draft plays out.
Key Stats: 4 Pancakes, 0 Sacks
J.J.J. Shabadoo, DT – Pick #123
Pick Grade: 2/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 1/5 Shrimp
Shabadoo didn’t play with the scheme used by the Buccs this season. He never had a chance to displace Goat Tank as the starting DT, but hopefully will contribute in Season 25 with either a scheme shift or lack of incoming DT prospects.
Chris Callahan, S – Pick #131
Pick Grade: 2/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 1/5 Shrimp
Callahan never saw the field this season, both due to low measurables and extreme depth at the S position. He may see time next year depending on ISFL departures.
Key Stats: 0 Starts
Owen Holloway, QB - Post Draft Trade (TIJ -> MB)
Pick Trade Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 4/5 Shrimp
This one is without the most unique re-grade on this list, and arguably in the league for the S24 season. Initially, it was a great pick because of the talent received for the trade. There was some skepticism with using 2 QBs but that was outweighed by the potential and how late the picks were made. The reason for the downgrade to 4 shrimp is because of the wildly inconsistent QB play and how it suppressed Daytona’s playtime.
Holloway showed a ridiculous ability to run the ball out of the pocket, often winning games with his feet for the Buccs, showcased with a crazy 87 yard scramble for a TD. However, he was a an interception machine to balance that out. Tough to gauge him as a dual threat QB rather than a RB that occasionally threw.
But that all changed with his unexpected position swap to WR, where he truly excelled. He was able to take that rushing ability and elite speed to the outside where he was an absolute playmaker for long balls. Working as a WR3, he was still able to put up 181 yards and a TD in just 4 games. He’s going to end up as some lucky ISFL teams WR1 for years to come.
Key Stats: QB: 6 Passing TD, 7 Int, 559 yds rushing, 6 TDs
WR: 181 yds, 1 TD, 36 yd longest catch.
Management
Final Evaluation: The Buccaneers GMs did a great job on this draft, filling several needs with quality players. They hit on all the early picks and found good value in the mid rounds with a couple of steals. The Holloway trade was a good trade at the very least because of the entertainment he provided rushing and throwing picks. I do unfortunately have to drop them down one shrimp due to the couple of busts and players that never even saw the field, and for the unfortunate outcome of the dual QB attempt. I can't give them a boost for this, but it should be noted that they developed their rookies very well throughout the season.
GM Grade: 5/5 Shrimp
Re-Grade: 4/5 Shrimp
Outlook for S25
Unfortunately the Buccs drafted so well that they may lose several of their high value players to ISFL call ups in the upcoming season. Several names could also remain in Myrtle Beach for one more season to develop, but they wont be there long. Luckily the staff seems to have an eye for talent and could see them drafting the stars prospects of the DSFL draft. It's also possible to see a scheme shift similar to what we saw at the end of the season when Daytona took over, so keep your eyes out for that. Either way, I can't wait to see what they come up with next. Go Buccs.

With the closing of S24, it’s time to look back on the S25 MB Draft and re-evaluate the picks with what we saw on the field this year.
