Strong defense. Powerful running. No fly zone. These are what define minnesota this season. These traits have carried them to a late push for the playoffs. A chance to make it all worth it. To hoist that trophy im ultimate victory. Its an honor for me to come in at the time I did and be chosen to run alongside the Legendary powerhouse Mike Rotchburns. In the hopes that our legs can help carry the Ducks to a championship. I wasnt expecting my debut in the DSFL to carry so much weight. I know my rookie season isnt technically until next year but man, coming in for these last four games onto a team with such high hopes and expectations, and not wanting to let them down when I could be the difference maker. Stressful. Before the Norfolk game my nerves were crazy man. I couldnt get out of my head. Am i going to be good enough? Will I do enough? I knew going into it that my carries would be limited but I had to make sure I made them count. Once the game started I stayed close on the sideline to the Coaches so I was ready to run in when called. First drive went 3 and out I didnt see a snap. Our Defense forced a punt giving us the ball back. They gave it to the big guy Mike twice, once for 6 and the other for 5. He needed a breath so they called me in. Oh S**t. Here it is. The moment Ive been training for. Negs called thw play, a draw from shotgun. The line is going to pull the pass rush in after the quarterback feigning pass, then im gonna shoot the A-gap hard. Ive known for a while this was gonna be my first play. Its just like we drew it up. Two solid runs by rotchburns to set up the pass then BAM! Right when they least expect it. As soon as I saw the D-Line pouring in I knew it would be good. The MLB dropped into coverage and once I got the ball I hit the gap hard. A quick move left and I was in space. Maple tripped me up before I could break big. 12 yards and a first down. On my first ever carry in the DSFL. I ran back to the huddle with a huge smile on my face getting high fives and excitement from the guys. The next play I got it again on a stretch to the right. I had to fight for it but I got six yards. *im doing pretty good*. They decided to see if go three in a row of solid runs. Norfolk has a tough run D and leads the league in tackles for loss. I learned that the hard when I was met by simpson at the line. **** Ive never been hit so hard in my life.i did manage to fall over for a yard but my bell was officially rung in the DSFL. They decided to give me a rest after that one thank god. The next drive I got one carry but only grabbed a yard. That one yard play was followed up by Rotchburns 59 yard TD run. So maybe I set him up for it (lol I doubt it). I had a few more 2 and 3 yard runs in the 2nd quarter but didnt see more than one carry per drive. My next big run came at the start of the fourth. An 8 yard scamper where I saw green and about hit paydirt for my first career touchdown. Of course of all people MAPLE tripped me up again. *AT THE ONE YARD LINE*. Ruined my day man. Not cool. Then negs kept it and scored on a one yard qb sneak. I really shined in the fourth quarter. Aside from that 8 yard run i had two thirteen yard runs on the same drive. My final play in resulted in a 3 yard run in crunch time to help run out the clock. We won the game 20-0. By the end I had 15 carries for 75 yards. Not a bad stat line for my debut this late in the season. Not too much rest though as we have a double header. Game two is a really tough conference battle with Portland with playoffs on the line.
I had a bit less time in against portland. Maybe because it was a bit tighter game that came down to the end. Jeeeeroy lenkins sealed the game with a pick six with 3 minutes left. The game started off really hot for us when Blackfyre picked off James on Portlands first drive. He nearly returned it for a TD but was stopped at the one yard line. Rotchburns got the call and punched it in. My first run was a short four yard run at the end of the first. I had a few good runs in the second. An eight yarder which I almost broke loose, tackled by Slayer and a ten yard scamper stopped by McBobby. I had a handful of other short yard gains in the second. The third quarter was pretty tough for me. I had 3 carries, none of which went over 5 yards. My last two runs came really late in the fourth. Rotchburns was pulled out, likely to save him for playoffs, seeing as I was only in the game to run out the clock. But I did get my longest run of the day, an 11 yard dive up the middle. The next run I managed to get 5 before i was tackled by Martinnsson and time ran out. I finished the day with only 10 carries, but I had 51 yards. So both of my games so far ive had 5 or more yards per carry. Not a bad start at all for my first two career games, especially for a double header.
Next up we have to travel to London. Ive never been across the pond, but Im hoping to see some increased volume in a game that we really need to win. A tough opponent on a road game will never be easy, but I think if I can get a few more carries and continue being effective I can really make an impact in this game. Lets just hope the defense can hold off Cortez and that high powered London offense. If they do I might see myself playing in the playoffs within my first 5 games in the DSFL. Quack Quack!
