Hello. I am Captain Rogers, a free agent running back that is on the move once more.
After being traded from Baltimore to the Liberty, I have decided to opt out of my contract and explore other options. Peace in our time is a blessing, but leaves a soldier like me restless. I'm almost 100 years old now, yet I'm still so young. I'm still looking for a purpose, for a place to fit in. Because of this, I've researched and listed in tiers which teams I believe I may begin a new journey with.
Have not contacted me:
BERLIN
I fought the krauts in WWII, so I struggle with the thought of fighting with them on the American football field. It just feels wrong. On top of that, Berlin is already set at running back and I would be of no use to their team, at least for quite some time.
ORANGE COUNTY
My good friend AJ Lattimer once played for Orange County and has nothing but good things to say about their team. I would consider trying it out as well, but unless I try a new position or change myself to fit in with them, I will not get to play. I can't change who I am, I can only try to be better, and that is why I believe in sticking with who I made myself to be.
CHICAGO
I had heard that Chicago had turmoil before I was thawed from the ice, but it seems they've turned that around. However, I have not spoken to any of their representatives and therefore feel that they are probably set at running back right now.
HONULULU
It would be nice to vacation to Hawaii and relax after my years of fighting, but I don't know if I could make that a home. I've also not talked to them, but I'm sure they have a great team too.
SAN JOSE
I do not know much about San Jose's situation on offense, so I'm not sure if I'd have a place at running back or not. Since I haven't spoken to any team reps, I don't know how they would feel about me and don't know much about what they have to offer.
BALTIMORE
My former team has not contacted me, and for understandable reasons. I had my time in Baltimore and made some friends, but in the end it was not the culture for me. They did draft another running back behind me to start them over me, which would make me a backup for my entire career and is one of the reasons why I wanted out. They'll likely find another backup RB.
Contacted me but do not need me:
YELLOWKNIFE
I had a brief chat with flyeaglesfly of Yellowknife, and neither of us could see a way that I could fit in the team's offensive scheme. I do respect them for reaching out and being honest. Again though, I would feel very uncomfortable playing as a former US soldier with a foreign team.
ARIZONA
In a more humorous exchange, OperaPhantom of Arizona told me he wanted to reach out, but they didn't actually need a running back so it was more of a pop in to say hi.
NEW YORK
I would love to have been able to go play for my home team, but rumor has it, NY was already in talks with another running back before I opted out. If I were to go to New York, I'd have to wait in line once again, which I would not like to continue to do for long. If there is another opportunity in the future, however, I would be willing to explore it.
AUSTIN
The Copperheads are cool and would likely be a nice destination, however they already have Zoe Watts, who was incredible as a rookie. I wouldn't be able to compete for a starting job, and although our talks haven't ended, I believe they will reach the same conclusion.
Landing spots with the most potential:
PHILLY
After spending the last half of the season ringing the bell, I did still opt out of my contract after having a decent year on the ground. I loved the people I found in the Philly locker room, and Captain America on the Liberty had a nice ring to it - pun intended. I would be the lead back like I always wanted, which is another plus. However I was not happy with how certain situations were handled, and the talks since opting out have not left me feeling very 'wanted' compared to how the rest of the teams approached me.
SARASOTA
From talking with Frost of Sarasota, I have discovered that they are willing to work with me to get me the stats I'd like to see and would be excited to have me. The only real con of it is I don't really know many people in the locker room, but sometimes you have to make friends. They also don't have much cap space to offer me too much money, but my financial status isn't really an issue.
NEW ORLEANS
Jazz is the key to my heart that reminds me of my long lost love everytime I hear it. I would be able to share a team with a few good friends and be an important factor in the teams success. Although I wouldn't be the primary back, I would still have a ton of opportunities, and seeing how well NOLA has treated two back sets in the past gives me hope.
COLORADO
The Yeti have been the most aggressive of the teams to go after me, as I've been contacted by four different members of the organization each pleading their case. While I'd very much enjoy being reunited with my former crew in Norfolk, I also want to make sure that my skills as a player will be put to good use. It seems they'd do their best to get me as much as they can, but it may not be what I really want until further down the line.
As of now, I'm still undecided on where I want to go. There are some very interesting options so far and maybe some I haven't even considered yet. Lets open up the speculation on where I'll end up.
