(Update, it’s me from the future and yes this project got a bit delayed, so I will be posting this Saturday night.)
Wow guys, I can’t believe we’ve been reunited so quickly. Not so long ago, I wrote my 16th game review, maybe, it might have even been my 17th. Ok, my sources are telling me it was indeed my 17th game review. Well, I decided to write my 18th one tonight because when I publish this it’ll technically be Saturday. Now, some of you may be asking the very important question of… why? Why the hell are you writing a 1500 word media on a friday night, specifically midnight. Go to sleep or go out or something.Well to you my critics, is that I like getting permanent eye damage from staring at bright screens for too long, and also I am an insomniac apparently. I went to bed and I couldn’t sleep so I decided to write me some game review so I can be lazy tomorrow and not write anything.
For this game review, my 18th one, I wanted to make it special, because it’s actually my 18th day of writing these reviews. Wow, how convenient. The numbers match. Before I know it, I’ll be on 20 game reviews soon. And then 25, and then 30 and then 40 and then 50. I’m going to be a very rich man, and hopefully the richest in my draft class, or at least that’s the goal. So, for this game review, I will be mixing it up. No more of that RNG stuff, I literally just searched for a game that I felt review-worthy. I was inspired by the S1 game I reviewed 2 hours ago, so I decide to stay in that season and to pick another, cool game. Now, this game featured the Baltimore Hawks traveling to Arizona to try and upset the Goliath. Now, for my league nerds who probably already know everything about everything, you guys know that Arizona won the first 3 Ultimus, even if it was on the backs of a scandalous affair, they still were a powerhouse team. Like the initial Green Bay Packers. Back to back super bowl wins and then not having done anything since then. Maybe a championship here or there but they’ve never had that back to back season. Then again, many franchises don’t. But enough of this rambling, let’s get straight into the game.
The first play of the drive for the Hawks is… a… 6 yard sack! But the 2nd play is an 11 yard completion, but on 3rd and 5 the 1st down throw is broken up and Baltimore unfortunately goes 3 and out on their opening possession. What’s this? A terrible punt and great return? It’s almost as if special teams has a huge impact on the game! Invest in your special teams players GMs! Arizona starts out at the Baltimore 48 yard line, but a penalty and short run make it 2nd and 13. Durden runs to the outside for 7 yards and on 3rd and 6, they handoff again, but this time to Mackworthy, who gets 8 yards and the first. Bronko gets another penalty, making it 1st and 15. On a 2nd and 12, Draxel finds Newman for 14 yards and the first down. Stormblessed drops a wide open pass on the next play, and then holds, making it 2nd and 20. What a great guy. But he decides to make up for it by running a deep streak route and absolutely toasting his defender. He gets wide open and raises his hand to signal the Qb and let him know he’s ready for a deep ball. Draxel trust him and throws the ball over the top, and now it’s a 1 on 1, and Stormblessed goes up and makes the catch and it’s ruled a 34 yard TD officially. Arizona takes the lad 7-0 5 minutes into the game. The Hawks can’t muster up anything on their drive, and they punt back to Arizona’s flaming hot offense. On the first play of Arizona’s drive, Stormblessed gets yet another penalty, and on the very next play, Draxel goes deep, but the pass is picked off by Al Mahrouqi, who runs all the way in for the TD! The Hawks tie it up 7-7 with the huge defensive play. Arizona gets their next drive started well, with back to back first downs off of an 8 yard rush and a 16 yard pass to Stormblessed. Then they decide to get Bronko in on the gameplan, as Draxel throughs 3 straight times to him, two of which those times Bronko dropped the ball, and the other time the ball just sailed over Bronko’s head. Update, I’m very tired now, but I’m going to try and write this entire thing out because I’m not a quitter. But please forgive any grammatical mistakes or spelling errors. Anyways, back to the game, that was a painful series to watch, with Bronko catching 0 balls on 3 targets. Arizona punts back to Baltimore. Kyubee gets sacked on the first play of the drive, and that ultimately kills the gameplan they had, and a dropped pass on a deep ball forces a punt back to Arizona. 2 good rushes + excellent starting field position sets up Arizona at the Baltimore 43 yard line. It’s 3rd and 2 and they decide to hand the ball off up the middle. Durden dives for the extra yardage but the refs will mark him 1 yard short. They go 3 and out and give the ball back to Baltimore. On a 3rd and 6 for Baltimore, Kyubee drops back, scans the field, is about to throw deep when the pocket collapses, and Dental Dam comes in with the sack. Arizona gets the ball back with under 3 to go in the first. Draxel starts out hot, with a 5 yard completion, and then a 23 yarder, putting Arizona on the Baltimore 42 yard line, but after a Hawks penalty it’s on the 37 yard line. Draxel takes over from here, but he gets sacked immediately, pushing them back to the 43 yard line. On 2nd and 11 Draxel goes to Jefferson out in the slot for 19 yards. One rush later, Draxel finds Stormblessed on an 8 yard out route, and then throws a post to Jefferson in the endzone for 10 yards and the TD. Arizona goes up 14-7 with the 2nd play in the 2nd quarter. Baltimore looks like they’re about to go 3 and out on the ensuing drive, and on 3rd and 7, they handoff, and it looks like Robinson got stuffed at the line of scrimmage, but he somehow bounced outside and got 12 yards, and the first down. They stick with the run game and handoff to Novel, who gets 10 yards on his rush and Arizona seems to just have no answer for the running game. Kyubee goes to Tenzini for 15 yards the next play, but a clipping penalty moves them back 15 yards, so now it’s 1st and 25. 2 straight passes to Lacavelier go incomplete, as one pass is tipped at the line of scrimmage and the other is dropped. After that, Jayce Tuck sacks Kyubee and it’s 4th and 32. Not a pretty sight. The punt goes very far though, but unfortunately Arizona can’t do much on their next drive as a 3rd and 6 sack kill the drive. A terrible punt but a terrible return set up Baltimore on their own 45 yard line. On a 3rd and 9, Kyubee takes over, throwing 4 consecutive passes to 4 different guys, for 11, 10, 7, and 15 yards, respectively. Now on the Arizona 11, they run it twice to the outside and score a TD. They miss the XP so they are still down 1 point, and it’s 14-13. Arizona starts off on their own 2 yard line as the kickoff return was horrendous. Arizona starts out all rushing, including a 7 yard one on 3rd and 2. They take up a minute off the clock and it looks like they’re trying to chew some clock and move down the field slowly. On the first pass attempt of the drive, the pass is picked off, and the Hawks get the ball back with 3 minutes to play in the half and some awesome field position. But they can only get 3 yards on 3 plays, and they kick a 38 yard FG to go up 16-14. Arizona gets the ball back with under 2 minutes to go, and it looks like they’re going to take a knee and chew out this clock, but then they call a timeout. Looks like there’s some discrepancy between what the coach and QB wanted to do. Draxel then drives down the field with 3 passes for 7, 10, and 18 yards, putting them in FG range, and Nugent kicks a 54 yarder to give Arizona back their lead, 17-16, going into half. Whew, that was a lengthy first half, and I’ll try and keep the 2nd one shorter or else I might just fall asleep on my desk.
Arizona’s first drive of the 2nd half starts off well with an 11 yard pass, but a sack and a dropped pass make it 3rd and 16. Draxel finds Jefferson up the middle, who gets absolutely laid out, and only managed to get 13 yards. So they punt after going 3 and out. Kyubee’s first pass was throws a bit out of the way. Robinson rushes on the next play but he coughs up the ball after 7 yards and Arizona recovers it. Arizona starts at the Baltimore 27 yard line, and after na incomplete pass on the first play, Draxel finds Jefferson for 27 yards and a TD on the 2nd play, and Arizona goes up 24-16. Penalties, penalties, penalties. That’s literally all that happens on the Hawks next drive. A 5 yard rush is negated by an illegal block below the waist, and then a 1 yard rush is also negated by a chop block, making it 3rd and 17. On the next play, Rashad sacks the QB, but they call it roughing the passer, giving the Hawks the first down! After a 13 yard pass and a 7 yard rush, an illegal formation penalty becomes too much to overcome for the Hawks as they can’t convert on 3rd and 8. They have to punt back to an Arizona offense that’s feeling themselves, and they get 22 yards on 3 plays, but unfortunately a sack kills the drive and Arizona has to punt the ball back. On 3rd and 1, Kyubee delivers a beautiful dime to West on 3rd and 1, who drops it! Oh, my, goodness. Arizona gets the ball back but an offensive pass interference makes it 2nd and 20, and Arizona can’t convert. They punt back to Baltimore, who punts right back after going 3 and out and failing to convert on 3rd and 7. Franklin Harris sacks Draxel for 6 yards on the first play of the Outlaws drive, and they punt back. On the ensuing punt return, West makes two tacklers miss and runs it all the way to the house! Baltimore is now trailing 24-23 only, with 1:20 left in the 3rd quarter. After a 1 yard rush by Mackworthy on Arizona’s next drive, Draxel scans the field and throws a checkdown, but the ball is tipped in the air by a defensive lineman and intercepted! Baltimore starts their drive at the Arizona 12 yard line. 2 straight rushes ends the 3rd quarter, and the 4th quarter starts out with a 4 yard rush by Robinson to convert a 3rd and 4 at the Arizona 6 yard line, Just 2 yards away, they run up the middle 3 straight times and score on the 3rd time, and this time they go for 2 and get it! Now they are winning 31-24, just like that. Arizona’s 1 TD lead blew past them after a punt return TD and interception leading to a TD. Arizona knows they need something here, Arizona starts off trusting the run game, and it works, with 3 rushes totaling 20 yards. But after that, a running play gets stuffed and a delay of game makes it 2nd and 15. A 4 yard pass makes it 3rd and 11 and a dropped deep ball forces Arizona to punt. Arizona trusts their defense and it pays off, as they force a 3rd and 13, and then eventually, a Baltimore punt. Arizona starts off at the 20. They need to score here, down 7 with 10 minutes left to go in the game. They start off with a pitch to Newman for 17 yards. Then Draxel throws an out route to Stormblessed for 14 yards. Durden runs it outside for 8 yards after that. Draxel completes back to back passes to Jefferson, one for 7 and another for 10. Now they’re at the Baltimore 24 yard line. An illegal shift penalty and a dropped ball make it 2nd and 15. But wait, Peterson jumps early on the next play and gets called for encroachment, but a dropped ball after that makes it 3rd and 10. On 3rd and 10, with 7 minutes to go, down 7, they need a TD here or else they will lose. Draxel throws a screen to Durden, who sheds a tackle and gets 11! The drive stays alive. Draxel goes to Mackworth twice, the first one is caught for 9, but he drops the second one, making it 3rd and 1 from the Baltimore 4 yard line. Draxel finds Durden open in the endzone for the checkdown, and they score! With 5 and a half minutes left the game is all tied up. Baltimore can’t go 3 and out, they have to at least waste some clock or try and get a score here, but they can’t punt back to Arizona. They start out on their own 7 yard line after a terrible kickoff, but wait, on the first play, Jayce Tuck sacks Kyubee for what looks to be a safety? No wait, they’re calling him down at the 1 yard line! A pass to West is dropped on the next play, and on 3rd and 16, Jayce Tuck sacks Kyubee for a safety! But wait, it’s roughing the passer apparently? Arizona’s sideline is furious, and Baltimore gets a 2nd chance. After a couple of plays, Piper gets called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, making it 3rd and 14. Kyubee goes deep to West, who doesn’t drop it this time, and hauls it in for 17. Kyubee goes and spikes it with 3 minutes left, from his own 29 yard line. He goes to West again, this time for 6 yards. Another Outlaws penalty, this time by Rashad, brings the Hawks to midfield! With 1 minute to go, on the Arizona 46, it’s 3rd and 6. The biggest play of the game. Kyubee lines up, takes the snap. Rolls out right. Novel comes back around and Kyubee lofts it. Novel grabs it with one hand! All that for 8 yards, but they go up and spike it. And with 28 seconds left, they go and attempt a 55 yard field goal. Up to this point, no one has made a FG this long. Turkleton gets a good hold, kicks it, and it looks like it has enough power, and…. It’s good! Baltimore goes up 34-31 with half a minute left in the game. Outlaws can’t do anything and that’s game.
Baltimore wins! What a game. Exciting, and full of nice plays. Penalties really killed the Outlaws there. This is the longest game review I did, spanning 2 nights. Hard to write like 2500 words in one go. But I’ll be getting some good money for this. Good night!
