Is it too early to say this is a comeback for the defensive end out of the University of Texas, Home of the Longhorns? Perhaps it is but we look into the work this young man did as a free agent, and hopefully, he will do even better after being drafted by the Colorado Yeti.
Blade is one of the top defensive ends in the league. I said it. He was drafted 2nd overall in the second draft of the NSFL for a reason. He boasted a stat line that was extremely impressive in the inaugural season of the NSFL. 47 Tackles, 17 TFL and 7 sacks. Maybe he can do even better in his rookie season. He's gotten off to a slow start but that does not mean he can not turn it around. We have been through two weeks of play and Blade is a 5 tackles, and 1 sack. It's not terrible but he's on track to do worse than the year he was a waiver pick up. He's on track to have 35 tackles, and 8 sacks. Not the most impressice stats ever for a defensive end who was expected to do better than he did last year. Obviously it's a little early but he's going to have to play monstrous games against teams like the Philadelphia Liberty. What will he do?
Now in the first week, obviously the entire league saw how disappointing his performance against the Yellowknife Wraiths was. There is no denying that. He barely came out with a meaningless tackle to add to his zeros that he had on that stat board. He himself was infuriated and told media that he was the most disappointed in himself, as before the game he told us specifically that he was going to make the Yellowknife Wraiths "regret" not picking him up with the first overall pick. He told us he was going to do better in his next game against the Las Vegas Legion.
He kept his promise. He came with 4 tackles and 1 sack. Not the most impressive stat line ever but it definitely was better than his 1 tackle. After the game we caught him saying "Well it was a better performance than my last game but I definitely have to do better. I want to create a bigger impact for my team and hopefully that will lead some wins for us. Still have to improve and play a good game every week." Clearly this kid has a lot of heart. He is determined to defeat every team in this league and become the best player in the league.
Tomorrow, the Yeti faceup against the Wraiths again in Week 3. You just have to wonder, is Blade going to bounce back against the team that held him to a measly 1 tackle? Is he going to fall under the pressure once again? The Yeti are 1-1 and are looking to make that 2-1 tomorrow against the boys in Yellowknife. They need Blade to perform if that's going to happen.
