Hello, and welcome to Simulation Sports Talk! The show where we speak with players around the NSFL and get a look at the league from their perspective. I am your host, Glade Evans, and today we have a recent DSFL draftee on to talk about their recent drafting. This LB prospect from Purdue was part of a trio leading the boilermakers with a top 5 defense that lead in run defense and turnovers just this past year. Just fresh from making an impact in the Prospect bowl games, give a big hand of applause for Gritt Gurdur!
Gritt Gurdur: Well howdy there Glade, it’s a pleasure to meet’cha.
Evans: So Gritt, the news just broke a few hours ago, the Portland Pythons selected you 23rd overall in the third round of the DSFL draft, the fourth linebacker off the board. How do you feel about where you ended up?
Gurdur: Well, first off let me just say that I think I ended up in the best situation that I could have had in the draft. I’ve had a lot of conversations with the heads over at Portland and let me just say, they have got all of their snakes in a barrel. They have greatly impressed me with each interaction and I am eagerly looking forward to bust sum skulls this year for them. Second on my list is the apology I have to give for the rest of the franchises in the DSFL. Now, you had plenty an opportunity to come out and grab me and have me be a fixture on your defense for quite some time, and now, I ain’t knocking all of you equally because I do dearly believe that a lot of you drafted some high quality, really fine players, and that’s fine, that’s perfectly understandable. Realize, however, that I AM one of the top players in this draft and now you’ve gone and gave me a chip on my shoulder and placed me with THEE best team in the DSFL. So now and only am I going to formally apologize for when I become an absolute force on the field of play and when you realize what you could of done had.
Evans: Well, that’s quite a bold statement, I hope you can live up to your own expectations. How about the rest of your draft class? Do you have any qualms about being the third pick by the Pythons or do you think you should have been a little higher?
Gurdur: No, not at all, let me tell you a little sumthing about the players ahead of me. Xavier Walls was the absolute right pick in that 7th spot, and I also personally think he is the steal of the draft. He is dedicated, motivated, and has tremendous physical ability. I had to play against him a few times in college, now, back then, I was double timing as a blocking back on offense, and this guy BY FAR gave me the most trouble. I cannot tell you how excited I am to be playing alongside him. And you already know about Remus Roman, hell, I’ve played with him for three years, he is an incredible player and person and should be quite the playmaker for years to come. I fully understood going in that these two would be going above me, but when I learned I got drafted to the same team that they did? I can’t deny I got sum good butterflies in my stomach.
Evans: How about the rest of your class? What do you know about them?
Gurdur: Well I haven’t had too much time honestly to meet the rest of the gang, but they all seem like great players and I feel they will have a large impact on this year. If the first three picks for the Pythons were any indication, I think they’ll be absolutely incredible. I look forward to playing alongside each and everyone of them.
Evans: It’s great to hear you have such a positive outlook with your teammates. Now, as you mentioned earlier, you played with Remus Roman and his brother Romulus Roman with Purdue in college, and now here you are, getting a chance to play with Remus again at the developmental level. How excited would you have been to get all three of you on the same team once again?
Gurdur: Oh that would have been absolutely fantastic, but there are only so many picks in the draft, and the three of us are so incredibly talented, just having me and Remus on the same team is a miracle itself. Now if the opportunity had been there for Portland, I believe that all three of us would currently on their roster, but you can’t pass up what we got today. Romulus is going to be one hell of a player, and I do hope we get to play together again someday. Maybe once we’re in the ISFL, we can get the Superfriends back together again.
Evans: One can only hope right? Now, you are coming into a locker room with a lot of talent at the linebacker position. Not only do you have Walls coming in as the first round choice, but you have Kevin Morrison coming back this year, Donald McBobby coming back for his fourth year of ellegability, and Ty Tyson in the mix as well. What are you going to do to get the starting job?
Gurdur: Now see, me and the big boys over in Portland have already talked about that, and I'll be right honest with you, that is indeed one powerful linebacker core they got up there. So, myself and the bosses have been discussing some other areas of the field that I can excel in. Now I don’t want to give up any spoilers at this point, but let me just say that I'm gonna be able to do what I do on the field and more, and that’s got me more purple then a fresh plum.
Evans: Glad to hear you being so optimistic about such a big change. Now, before I let you go here, is there anything you would like to say about your team’s prospect bowl performance?
Gurdur: Anything but day three.
Evans: And that is all for today, Ladies and Gentlemen. Thank you for coming on the show today Gritt.
Gurdur: Well, thank you kindly for having me.
Evans: I hope you all at home enjoyed today’s talk, enjoy the rest of your night! This is Glade Evans of Simulation Sports Talk, signing off.
