Okay, so to start off, I have managed to fully recreate the S26 London Royals in Madden. It took over a ridiculous amount of time, as I had to set every single stat for every single player, and there’s a ridiculous amount of stats for each player. The first issue I ran into was that the overalls the sim assigns are very different than the overalls madden gives the player when you input the stats into madden. Not only that, but it’s much harsher against some positions than other positions. For example, a 67 overall running back in the sim might be around 40 overall in madden, but a 67 overall linebacker in the sim might have a 64 overall madden rating. I had originally tried to mess around with stats to get the overalls to match, but that proved to be impossible due to how much needed to be changed. This change in overall also means the Royals in madden…. aren’t the best team. The second issue was trying to assign stats. There’s no way to quantify how good a player in the league is at jumping for instance, so how am I supposed to give the player in madden a stat for jumping that fits? The answer was trying to quantify what stat would a specific thing be under. For example, jumping ended up being correlated to the agility of the player, acceleration being correlated to the strength of the player, and the ability to break tackles was connected to a mix of strength and agility.
Now that the London Royals have been created, I need something to do with them. At first, I was going to build another DSFL team in madden to go against them, but before I decided that before I do that, I want to see how they do against a real NFL team. So I chose the worst madden team (the Jacksonville Jaguars) to run an exhibition match against, just to see how the Royals fare, and I’ll writing out a play-by-play of sorts. Both teams will be controlled by a computer as to not screw the results, with me here to do nothing but recording what happens. I hope you enjoy! (By the way, this is the Jags roster at the preseaso, so Fournette is the runningback and Gardner Minshew is the QB
It’s 4:15 PM on a bright and sunny day. The match is being player in the Mercedes-Benz stadium, so there’s no wind or weather that’ll affect the game. Jacksonville kicks off, and the ball goes out of bounds for a touchback.
1st and 10 at the 25: Charlemagne Cortez drops back and throws against a man blitz by Jacksonville. The ball barely avoids being tipped by Jaguars LB Myles Jack, and is caught in the middle of the field by Frank Michell. Michell breaks a tackle and runs a couple yards upfield before getting tackled for a 16 yard gain
First and 10 at the 41: Terry Yaki takes the handoff and runs for a two yard gain. The O-line does a great job creating a hole for him, but unfortunately, Yaki decides to run directly into a defender instead of using that hole
Second and 8 at the 43: Cortez takes the snap, waits a couple seconds, and then throws a check down to Terry Yaki two yards behind the line of scrimmage. Yaki spins out of what was nearly a tackle for a two yard loss, and runs 4 yards to make it third and 6. Tugg Speedman was wide open in the middle of the field on a crossing route after faking out the defender, but unfortunately Cortez had his eyes set on Terry Yaki by that point
third and 6 at the 45: Cortez drops back as Jacksonville blitzes two linebackers in a zero blitz Charlemagne throws a contested ball downfield to Tugg Speedman, who jumps to make a beautiful catch and come down with the ball for a 21 yard gain
first and 10 at the opponent’s 34: The royals have three TEs out on the field, and the jags are apparently expecting a run, considering there’s no safeties downfield. That expectation was correct, as the ball is snapped and handed off to Terry Yaki. Unfortunately, offensive guard Fran Chet absolutely whiffs in his block, leading to a tackle for loss by the jags. It’s an absolute shame as well, because the rest of the offensive line blocked beautifully.
Second and 11 from the opponent’s 35: Cortez takes the snap and, seeing nothing open, throws it to Frank Michell for a five yard gain
Third and 6 from the opponent’s 30: The Royals run a slant route and Cortez passes to the wide open Tsuyu Asui. Unfortunately, it bounces off her hands and hits the ground
Fourth and 6 from the opponent’s 30: Royals punt for a touchback
And…. then the game broke. It didn’t allow me to replay any play. Goddamnit. This is… not ideal, and frankly just infuriating. I guess I have to control a team. Time to try this again. Same situation, same everything, but this time I’ll be controlling the Royals, so we’ll see how that goes. I’m a fairly good madden player, but the Royals team in madden has a very low overall (sub-50), so we’ll see how this goes. I guess maybe this is technically more realistic, given it’s kinda like how we sim test, just more involved.
Jags kick off the ball, Terry Yaki takes it out of the end zone and gets it to the 25
1st and 10 from the 25: The play was originally intended to be a run, but after seeing both safeties head towards the line of scrimmage, was audibled to four verticals. Charlemagne Cortez throws a constested throw to Frank Michell, who manages to bring it down for a 24 yard gain
1st and 10 from the 49: Terry Yaki runs it up the hit for three yards
second and 7 from the opponents 48 yard line: Schumi Hulkunvettel manages to get another separation from the defensive ball in order to catch the ball, and from there runs 15 yards up the field for a 25 yard gain. Looking through the replay, I just noticed that right before I threw the ball, both defensive tackles simultaneously broke through the O-lines blocks, meaning that if I hadn’t thrown that ball, I probably would have been absolutely massacred by two 300+ defensive tackles who I had no idea were coming.
first and 10 at the opponents 24: It’s a draw play, and Yaki runs 3 yards down the middle of the field before getting tackled.
second and 7 from the opponents 21: Seeing no other option, Cortez dumps it off to his tight end michell, but due to seemingly nobody covering him, is able to run all the way to the 3 yards line
first and 3 from the opponent’s 3: Tugg Speedman runs a clean route and manages to get barely enough separation to catch the ball for a touchdown. Falcons 6 Jaguars 0
The extra point is good. 7-0.
Pink panthers kicks it off, and it is returned for 28 yards
first and 10 from the 28: The ball is handed off to fournette on an outside run, where he ends up getting hit so hard behind the line by Caven McRae he gets spun around.
second and 12 from the 26: Minshew passes to a wide open Chris Thompson on a wheel route, who tried to play hot potato with the ball instead of actually catching it.
third and 12 from the 26: Minshew scrambles to the left, and hurdles a defender before sliding for a 14 yard gain. Okay I have to stop and go back for a second, because a quarterback scrambling, seeing a defender run at him, and instead of sliding HURDLES HIM?????? That’s insane. I’d also like to compliment defensive end Zane Cruz, who, after watching Minshew run past him, rather than chasing after him, decides instead of destroy the blocker in front of him, nearly running him over. Like I applaud the verocity, but like…. the QB is already gone. What do you hope to gain exactly. I’d also like to shoutout the CB Gav Lecerc, who shows the very definition of book smart over street smart. He’s in zone coverage, and has a choice between covering two people, a receiver running the flat underneath him, and a receiver streaking upwards. Rather than covering either of them, he sits in the middle. This effectively leaves both of them open. I get that you have to stay in your coverage and you don’t want to leave anyone open, but like… cmon man, you’re just making things worse by not covering either person.
first and 10 at the 40: Fergus Callaghan Jr. sacks Minshew for an eight yard loss. Nice job Fergie
Second and 18 from the 32: So… outside of Gav, we have no user cornerbacks, which is… well, not ideal. This means we kinda suck in coverage. What i’m trying to get at is one of our bot cornerbacks got juked into oblivion, leading to a 68 yard touchdown pass to Chris Thompson. Sadge
Extra point is good, 7-7 is the score
Yaki returns the Jags kickoff to the 29 yard line
first and 10 from the 29: Cortez gets the snap, sees nobody open, scrambles for a second, and throws to a wide openTerry Yaki. Yaki, however, decides to play volleyball instead and bats down the ball
second and 10 from the 29: Cortez takes the snap, wait’s a second, figures “screw it” and chucks a deep ball to Tugg Speedman, who doesn’t make the catch. On the bright side though, as Tugg Speedman flies through the air attempting to catch the ball, he ends up hitting a jaguars defender on the way down and utterly destroys him, so we have that going for us.
third and 10 from the 29: The royals run corners, and surprising, it works. A 25 yard completion for Tsuyu Asui.
Nevermind, it got challenged and ruled incomplete. Still a great try tho, and it nearly worked. Darn
Fourth and 10 from the 29: Thats right, i’m going for it. Logic be damned. I might as well. And it pays off! Asui catches it on a crossing route before immediately getting tackled. It’s a 19 yard completion.
first and 10 from the 48: A run up the gut by Yaki for four yards
second and 6 from the opponent’s 48: I figured i’d have fun with this down, so I decided to call an end around, which basically means that Tsuyu Asui is going to be running the ball and hopefully not getting tackled for a seven yard loss like most end around. However, when I run this play, something… weird happens. First off, Yaki doesn’t even bother blocking, so like thanks Yaki. Schumi at least kind of tries to block, but he more just dives in the general direction of a defender. Second off, A defender somehow hurdles over two offensive linemen simultaneously. Okay so let me explain. So sometimes if an O-lineman loses balance, they fall forwards, leading to the defensive player hopping over them to get past them. Fine, I understand that. But with Madden being an animation-based system rather than a physics-based system, things can get a little wonky. While the defender is hopping over the lineman, a second lineman appears to help block. However, by this point the defender is already halfway through the hopping animation. This leads to this weird full on clawing motion as the defender leaps right past the second lineman, who just kinda of runs off to block somebody else. That’s not even the wierdest part. The weirdest part is the ball never gets handed off, which is odd, considering that, you know, it’s a run. This is where the engine being animation based comes in again. Multiple defenders gets to the quarterback right as he’s handing off the ball to Tsuyu Asui. This leads to the QB going from a handing off animation to a being tackled animation, which means he doesn’t even bother actually handing off the football. It’s not even counted as a sack, just a tackle for loss. Just all around odd
third and 12 at the 47: a 21 yard pass down the middle to Tugg Speedman. A nice change of pace from whatever the heck that last play was.
first and 10 from the opponent’s 33: A pass to Tsuyu Asui on an inside cross. She runs up the field, ripping of a defender, before stumbling and getting tackled.
first and 10 from the opponents 16: dump off to Michell, who runs up field to the 5
first and 5 from the opponents 5: A run up the middle for 1 yard. I’d just like to shout out the O-lineman Alexander Alexander for a sec, for his… odd blocking strategy. As Yaki is getting tackled, Alexander decides to yeet the defender over Yaki and the defender tackling, resulting in him tripping over them. I’m not sure what it accomplished, but I like the effort.
second and 4 from the opponents 4: Cortez throws it away to avoid getting sacked
Third and 4 from the opponents 4: The pass falls incomplete. I’d just like to take a second to shine a spotlight on Fran Chett, who is both the best and worst offensive guard I have ever seen. Chett picks up on the blitz and goes out of his way to stop the blitzer.A great and smart move. Only issue is that Chett falls down immediately trying to stop him. The intelligence is there. The physical ability… not so much.
Fourth and 4 from the opponents 4: Yaki tried to run it in, and gets tackled a yard away from the end zone. On the bright side, it is the first time I have ever seen something i’d like to classify as an “assisted pancake”. One of our o-lineman kinda pancakes his defender, but the only reason is because multiple players, defenders and offensive players, all ran into him at the same time. An assisted pancake, if you will
Turnover on downs
First and 10 at the 1 yard line: The jags try a run with Fournette. He originally breaks a tackle by Steve Warshal, before getting tackled by Caven McRae behind the line of scrimmage for a safety.
9-7 Royals
It’s a very short kickoff, and Hulkunvettel returns it to the 40 yard line
first and 10 at the 40 yard line: Asui catches it in the middle of the field, and falls forwards after getting hit by a defender
first and 10 from the opponents 34: So, Charlemagne Cortez is sometimes referred to as “statue cortez” or statue stenny for how goddamn slow he is. and I cannot begin to explain just how how slow he is. So in madden he has a speed of 45. Very slow, but not awful. What makes it awful is that in madden, QBs in the pocket move much slower than QBs out of the pocket, so Cortez literally moves like he’s stuck in maple syrup. I discovered how slow he was when I tried scrambling with him on this down. At first, I wasn’t sure if I was holding down the sprint button. Then I realized that no, he was sprinting, he was just doing it very slowly. I had to throw it away to avoid a sack, as I definitely could not outrun the defender.
Second and 10 at the 34 yard line: Cortez tries to throw, but gets hit halfway through it, so it falls incomplete
third and 10 from the 34 yard line: Im starting to suspect that madden hates me. So what happened was I threw to Michell on an inside crossing route, and everything looked good. He catches the ball, and then trucks a defender The announcer even commentates on him catching the ball and trucking a defender. Keep in mind, there’s a couple second or two of him just running with the ball in his hands before trucking the defender. While trucking the defender, the ball falls out of his hands. It is ruled an incompletion. I am unable to challenge it. I… I just don’t know. This has never happened before, and I don’t know if it’ll ever happen again. But we must move on I guess. That was B.S. though
fourth and 10 from the 34 yard line: My hubris… it got the best of me. Nothing was open, so I tried to run. I tried to run with Charlemagne “statue stenny” Cortez. Cortez actually breaks a tackle, which is very nice, as it propels him forwards. However, this propels him directly into the arms of another tackler, and Cortez fumbled the ball. The ball is then picked up by a defender and returned for a touchdown. I am sad now.
Extra point is good. 14-9 Jaguars.
The jaguars kick is returned by Yaki to the 25 yard line.
first and 10 at the 25 yard line: bubble screen to Tsuyu Asui for 4 yards
second and 6 from the 29 yard line: contested throw to Tugg Speedman that’s batted down by a defensive back. Smh
third and 6 from the 29 yard line: So, i’ve made a vow to myself. I will scramble at some point with Charlemagne Cortez for positive yardage. I tried that this play, but nearly got sacked. In desperation, I threw to Frank Michell, who didn’t end up catching it
fourth and 6 from the 29 yard line: inside cross to Frank Michell for 14 yards. Thank u Deadly
first and 10 at the 43 yard line: I tried the whole scrambling thing again. Didn’t work, and I got an intentional grounding penalty
second and 25 at the 28 yard line: Cortez throws a high ball to Schumi, who ends up coming down with it, putting me where I would’ve been without the penalty
third and 10 at the 43 yard line: Frank Michell catches the ball and tries stiff arming a defender, which fails miserably. At least you tried Deadly, at least you tried.
fourth and 4 at the 49 yard line: Cortez passes the ball to Speedman for 7 yards. Sorry i don’t have much more to add for this one, but like… it was a pretty normal play.
first and 10 at the opponents 44 yard line: Tsuyu Asui catches a pass 10 yards downfield and immediately runs out of bounds (it’s almost halftime, so we want to preserve clock).
First and 10 at the opponent’s 34 yard line: Yaki catches a 7 yard pass before going out of bounds. 25 seconds left.
Second and 3 at the opponent’s 27 yard line: Schumi catches a ball while running a corner route and then runs it in the for the touchdown!!!
Two point conversion: Cortez targets Speedman as he throws down the middle. However, the throw is now where near Speedman, so it falls incomplete. Maybe Cortez was just trying to factor in where Speedman would be, but just failed miserably. It was a calculated risk, but man is he bad at math
15-14 Royals
On the kickoff return, Logan Sarrasin decides to completely lay out the kick returner, which, while functionally the same thing as a tackle, is pretty cool
first and 10 from the 32 yard line: Minshew tries to scramble, fumbles, and the fumble is picked up by Gav Lecerc after Logan Sarrasin tries to pick up the fumble and completely misses. It’s kind of funny to me how Minshew decided to scramble when he was under no pressure whatsoever, but I don’t judge
first and 10 from the opponent’s 36 yard line: The Royals have the ball with 9 seconds left. Our kicker kind of sucks, so there’s no way he make a field goal from this distance, so I have to try to make a play, or get close enough to kick a field goal. I throw to Asui, who tries to make a play, but the ball gets knocked out of her hands
second and 10 from the opponent’s 36 yard line. 4 seconds left. Time for a hail mary. And… it falls incomplete. Halftime
The jaguars return the kickoff to the 31 yard line.
First and 10 from the 31: Minshew passes down the middle to Tyler Eifert, who immediately gets tackled by Wadham.
first and 10 from the 42: Minshew passes, but the ball is knocked out of the receiver’s hands
second and 10 from the 42: Fournette just cannot catch a break. He gets tackled at the line of scrimmage by Wadham, who literally pushes Y. Botman out of the way just to get the tackle, which I find quite rude, and therefore deduct one kindness point from him
third and 10 at the 42: A seven yard pass to Tyler Eifert, with the tackle made by Caven McRae. A shoutout to Deedee Westbrook, who keeps running his route long after the ball has already been passed
fourth and 3 from the 49: the jaguars punt out of bounds at the 14 yard line
First and 10 at the 14: Yaki runs and jukes his way for an 8 yard gain. There’s a couple people in this play that each deserve their own recognition. There’s the center who, while running to block a defender, literally runs over a seperate defender. There’s Tsuyu Asui, who is the one who pushes that defender in the way of the center. There’s our bot TE, who whiffed in his block so hard he pushed himself over. All around great play by everyone.
second and 2 at the 22 yard line: Play action pass to Tugg Speedman on a crossing route. One of the safeties, instead of tackling him, instead tried to… juke him. I’m still not 100% sure what exactly happened or why he did it, but it appears he tried to juke out Speedman. I don’t understand anything anymore.
first and 10 at the 46 yard line: Attempted pass to Tsuyu Asui. However, it seems that Asui was so preoccupied with running her route, she just didn’t bother catching the ball. I respect the grind at least
second and 10 from the 46 yard line: Cortez tried throwing it deep to Tugg Speedman, but gets intercepted. I’d just like to point out the jaguars defensive tackle who, after seeing the ball get intercepted, decides to throw all 300 pounds of himself at the legs of my center, which trips him. I’m not exactly sure what he wanted to accomplish with this action other than break my center’s legs
first and 10 at the 49 yard line: The Royals safety decides to suddenly become a receiver instead of blocking the actual receiver, which results in him trying to intercept the ball and completely failing, which leaves a path wide open for a touchdown
Two point conversion: haha they failed. Losers
20-15 Jaguars
Yaki returns the kickoff to the 28 yard line
first and 10 from the 28 yard line: Inside crossing route to Schumi for 13 yards
first and 10 at the 42 yard line: Cortez passes to Tsuyu Asui, who runs backwards for some reason and gets tackled for a four yard loss
second and 14 from the 38 yard line: A one handed grab by Tsuyu Asui for 30 yards, which makes up completely for the dropped pass earlier.
first and 10 at the opponents 32 yard line: A 5 yard run by Terry Yaki. Tugg Speedman does the masterful blocking tactic of pushing the defender right into the runningback, which, oddly enough, did not block him.
Second and five from the opponent’s 27 yard line: Frank Michell catches the ball on an inside crossing route and trucks a defender before getting tackled. The truck didn’t help him gain any yards, but man did it look cool
First and 10 from the opponent’s 19 yard line: Tugg Speedman catches the ball on a crossing route and enjoys a wide open lane to the end zone.
two point conversion: Speedman catches the two point conversion on a slant routes woo!
23-20 Royals. Just gotta stop them from getting a touchdown
The kickoff is returned to the 22 yard line.
first and 10 from the 22: Remember that comment I made earlier? About how we just need to stop them from getting a touchdown? That comment aged badly almost immediately. Forget aged like milk, milk at least takes like a day to go bad. This aged like… idk, something that aged badly in like 5 seconds. What i’m trying to say it, they scored a 78 yard passing touchdown on the first play of the drive
Extra point good. 27-23 Jacksonville
Kickoff results in a touchback
first and 10 from the 25 yard line: Inside crossing route to Frank Michell for 8 yards
second and 2 from the 33 yard line: Frank Michell tried out the blocking tactic of “block for one second and then stop”, which leads to a tackle for loss behind the line of scrimmage. Michell legitimately just stopped blocking. I don’t get it.
third and 3 from the 32 yard line: Pass to speedman in the middle for 14 yards
1st and 10 at the 46 yard line: Tsuyu Asui barely hangs on to a pass, but is able to keep the ball in her hands for a 22 yard completion.
First and 10 at the opponent’s 32 yard line: Pass to speedman on a slant route in the middle for 14 yards. Things seem to be maybe looking up for the Royals
First and 10 at the opponent’s 18 yard line: Terry Yaki breaks a tackle rushing down the middle before getting brought down for a 6 yard run
first and 20 from the opponent’s 12: Terry Yaki runs for 5 yards down the middle before being tackled.
Two minute warning. The royals just need a touchdown to get the lead.
First and goal at the opponent’s 7: 4 yard run up the middle by Terry Yaki. So close to a touchdown
First and goal at the opponent’s 3: run up the middle by Terry Yaki. Just barely a touchdown. Yay!!
extra point good. 30-27 Royals. 1:26 left
Kickoff returned to the 32 yard line
first and 10 at the 32 yard line: 8 yard pass to Dede Westbrook. 1:05 remaining
second and 2 at the 40 yard line: Nearly a seventy five yard pass, but just barely broken up. Thank god
third and 2 at the fourth yard line: 55 second remaining. The receiver managed to get in front of the safety, but the ball was off target. Had that ball been on target, that would’ve been a guaranteed touchdown
fourth and 2 at the 40 yard line: 52 second remaining. A run up the middle by Fournette just to not have a turnover on down. A hole opens, and he runs through it. He gets to the 7 yard line, and then gets tired, and gets tackled at the four yard line. Uh oh
first and goal at the four yard line: 23 seconds remain. Minshew scrambles, and then throws to Tyler Eifertor a touchdown.
Extra point good. 34-30 Jaguars
Terry Yaki returns the kickoff to the 28 yard line. 15 seconds remain.
first and 10 at the 28 yard line: Tsuyu Asui gets some seperation, catches the ball at the 50 yard line… and drops it. The crowd has started booing. It’s a home game for the Royals. I didn’t even know this was possible
second and 10 at the 28 yard line: 11 seconds left. Schumi Hulkunvettel can’t come down with the ball
third and 10 at the 28 yard line: 5 seconds left. This is the last shot. Tsuyu Asui catches the ball. She holds onto it. But it’s not enough. She comes up short.
Final score: Jacksonville Jaguars: 34 London Royals: 30
I have to say, this was ridiculously fun to make. Please comment if you guys enjoyed this or have any suggestions, and i’ll probably be making another one soon! Thanks!!!

Thanks!!!
