Here is my Season 30 DSFL Mock Football Draft! Some rules you should know before we dive into this. With this mock, we assume no trades are going to occur. Obviously draft day trades are common, and most likely will occur, but to save myself the headache of trying to come up with trades, I just said the hell with it. I have gone onto the prospects update pages, and used their new updated TPE counts. They are not official, yet, nor corrected for mistakes. They should be fairly accurate however. I only drafted the first two rounds of the draft. Which equals 16 picks, and I used 32 player draftees profiles. So at the end I will list the remaining 16 players. This is just 100% fiction and 100% my own opinion. I am using the draft review made by Krazko as my guide for team needs so I can make my best educated guess toward how the first few rounds might play out. So lets get to it shall we? Remember NO TRADES! Also Im not abiding by the GM/create rules either. This is straight up normal one through eight picks.
ROUND ONE:
WR – Squidward Tentacles (164)
The first selection in this draft goes to the Norfolk Seawolves. According to others research, the most pressing needs for Norfolk would be RB, WR, D-Line, TE, CB, & LB, in that order. So the question for Norfolk in this position is do you go the best (highest TPE) player on the board or do you go for most pressing need? Lucky for them Squidward Tentacles fills both of those scenarios as he is 2nd in TPE at 164 and with No WR’s on the roster, most definitely a pressing need for the Seawolves.
DE – Jason Garciaparra (174)
It is no secret that the Dallas Birddogs have a major need at QB. They also have a major need at DE. Do they go top dog DE Jason Garciaparra or do they go with a QB this early? I think there are far more quality QB prospects than DE prospects, so Dallas takes a gamble that a QB will be available next round, and take the number 1 draft prospect in terms of TPE!
TE – Rex Crenshaw (155)
Kansas City currently has holes they need to fill at WR, TE, DE and S. They have a few ways they could go with this pick. They could go with a DE like Ion Torrent, or WR Vincent Sharpei Jr. I think it is still a little to early to take a reach on a Safety as the best one available is Wiles Weperom. They decide to the take the best player currently on the board, and that would be TE Rex Crenshaw. This kid can fly and has some pretty reliable hands. However, don’t keep this guy back to block, because hes almost useless there. Wont be long before the coaches in KC can fix that.
WR – Vincent Sharpei Jr (137)
The picks are starting to get a little tricky. Minnesota has other needs, but they also want to make a play for the best players available on the board. The best guy right now would be Konstantin Selich, however Minnesota already has 2 solid DT’s on the team. They don’t need a QB, or LB and the Safeties available are going to be major reaches from the 4th selection. With all this said, the Minnesota Grey Ducks decide to make a play for WR Vicent Sharpei Jr!
DT – Konstantin Selich (150)
The Buccaneers are in a dire situation, and boy do they get lucky on draft day. They have a bunch of holes to fill, and D-Line just so happens to be one of those needs. The best player in terms of TPE left on the board is DT Konstantin Selich. The next two are QB’s, maybe the only position not a need for the BB Bucs. So this was a pretty easy selection to make for Bondi Beach. They get the 4th best player in the draft, at the 5th selection.
RB – Tron Carter (142)
Portland has an interesting selection here. They have 1 QB, but hes gonna be around the DSFL another season or two. Do they draft his future replacement or do they decide to get more urgent needs fills with a Rb or DE? Portland decides that their RB situation is the most pressing need, and they decide to bypass Ricky Stanzi, Mason Malone and Sherrif Woody to make their selection. They go with RB Tron Carter.
S – Wiles Weperom (135)
Ive had the pleasure of hanging out with the Luchadores as they are the first team I ever got some grid-iron time with. They have great management and are always thinking 2 steps ahead of their opponents and that’s why they have won 8 Ultimini’s. They are well coached, and always seem to find the diamonds in the rough. This upcoming season sees Tijuana with a few holes that need filling. RB, WR, TE, DT and S would be primary areas of interest for Tijuana. They decide the void left at S, is where they will focus their first round selection.
QB – Ricky Stanzi (146)
The defending DSFL Champs are now up for their first selection of the draft. They have a need at QB, and with 3 of the top 5 best remaining players positioned at QB, they have their pick of top QB prospects. With only a 7 TPE difference between top TPE QB Mason Malone (148), and 3rd option Dustin Parmelee (141) it seems like a good time to be in London’s War room. The London Royals decide to select QB Ricky Stanzi (146). Stanzi got more playing time for the Wolverines than Dustin Parmelee did during the Prospect Bowl games, but if you dive into the numbers maybe Dustin deserved more playing time (more on those numbers in my next article). The Royals still think grabbing Ricky Stanzi this late in the first round is an absolute steal and could not be any happier with their selection. Ricky has a bright future, and London likes to win Ultamini's. Seems like a match made in heaven.
ROUND 2:
DE Ion Torrent (143)
After taking Squidward in the first round and suring up their WR need the Seawolves still have some solid players to pick from to start the second round. Their most pressing needs by the time the 2nd round comes around would be RB, TE, and D-Line. They have the options of TE Dee Walk (120), or even could grab a LB and take Sheriff Woody (145). The decision they decide to make is to draft DE Ion Torrent (143) Norfolk views Torrent as a huge play maker on the defensive side of the ball and a player of his caliber was able to fall to them in the 2nd round. The fans are going nuts at this point as they have filled another need with the draft.
QB – Mason Malone (148)
The Birddogs are praising the football Gods with their second round selection. They urgently need a QB and not only are there two top QBs left on the board, but one is the best remaining player! Without a doubt the Dallas Birddogs race up to the podium to hand in their selection. Mason’s numbers in the Prospect Bowl werent the best numbers you ever did see, but his measurables and his desire to be great will be enough to help guide Dallas to the playoffs.
LB – Sheriff Woody (145)
The Coyotes again have a few directions they can decide to go with this selection. Already taking a TE in the first round, you would think that TE Dee Walt (120) would be off their big board this round. They do however have a major need at WR. With Calvin Hobbs (119), Cliff Burton (112) and Andy Fantuz (112) still left on the draft board, they can take their time here and make the best decision in their eyes. Do they go highest TPE, or try to find something else? They trick everyone and decide to go with the best player remaining in the draft! That would be LB Sheriff Woody (145)!
TE – Dee Walt (120)
Now on the clock is the Grey Ducks from Minnesota. In the first round the Ducks went with a WR to fill a need. This round the top player on the TPE board would be Dustin Parmelee (141), but they don’t have a need what-so-ever with that position. The next best available is TE Dee Walt (120). Guess what ladies and gentleman? We have a match! The Grey Ducks continue to bolster their offensive with the selection of Walt!
WR – Calvin Hobbs (119)
The Bucs went defense in the first round, and they will most assuredly go with an offensive player in this round. They need help on both sides of the ball, and the first two rounds are most likely to land you impact players. Needing an impact on offense after taking Selich in the first round they are going to go ahead and grab WR Calvin Hobbs (119). This guy is projected to be a game changing type of impact player when he gets fully developed and the Bucs are happy their man fell to them in the second round!
WR – Cliff Burton (112)
Since Portland was able to land the RB they wanted in the first round with their selection of Tron Carter, this round they turn the focus to WR. They need a find a big impact in the passing game, and they hope they have found their man in WR Cliff Burton (112). This kid can burn and his hands are developing. He has Calvin Hobbs speed, with better hands. The Pythons thank their football Gods for letting Burton fall to them in the 2nd round.
QB – Dustin Parmelee (141)
With Tijuana’s 2nd round selection, they decide to take the best remaining player on the board. That would be former clipboard holder and waiver claim pickup Dustin Parmelee. They clearly have the QB position locked up but here come reinforcements. The young Pigskin passer impressed with his time in the Luchadores Locker Room, and they couldn’t help themselves by taking a player in a position that was not a need. The Luchadores successful lock in their QB needs for the foreseeable future! Dustin Parmelee celebrates as his free fall into the 2nd round has finally been halted.
CB – Owen Reed (111)
The Royals use this opportunity to snag the best remaining CB on the draft board. They love the intangibles that Reed brings to the table including his incredible speed, and hands that are well deserving of the CB role. He’ll drop a lot of potential interceptions, but with his speed and and intelligence that he already possesses this kid has a shot at being a real difference maker next season in the secondary for the Royals.
