And this is episode three of the second season of Unfiltered. I keep promising consistency, but hell, my health comes first. And the last 15 months have been hell. For everyone. At least there is some light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccines. And I went and got mine two days ago. Why am I saying all this? I have seen some "drama" around. Again. Me getting my vaccine means I am doing my part in protecting those around me. And the league is a group of people that needs to be protected. Why can't we all do our part in helping the league improve? Cheaters get caught and pushed to the side. Dickheads receive the same treatment. I have been a dickhead, and let me tell you, the road to redemption is long and hard. And sometimes you don't even get to redeem yourself. Your notoriety is set in stone for ever. And people that have been around during your dickhead days don't even get to see you change, just because they don't want to be around you anymore. Perhaps there is a certain number of second chances they can give you, and you depleted them. And that's the rough part. Sometimes you have to change for whatever or whoever is to come in your life. Not for whoever has been in your life. Is that fine? Sure. Does it hurt? Definitely. But even so, you can still do your part to protect and improve whatever is around you. We need to protect this league at all costs. The league can't exist if we aren't here. The league is made from us, for us. There is a group of people to regulate the league, but even those people will go away if there is not enough members. Can we try and be positive? Does cheating help? It only drives people away. And the cheater is pushed away once they get caught. Because there is no perfect crime. If you think there is, look up the story of "The Gentlemen of Cali", the story of the infamous Cali Cartel. A seemingly perfect opertation that got caught because there were tracks left by the money laundering they were doing. I won't get into more detail, just look it up. You will be surprised the lengths they would go to cover their tracks.
Now that the social message of the episode is out of the way, let's talk ISFL football! And DSFL football! We are in the playoff push! I will start with the DSFL. Our proving and developing grounds. Ten games in, my alma mater, the Dallas Birddogs, are finally successful! Dallas is leading the SFC, having a one game lead over the Tijuana Luchadores. The two teams will face each other in Week 12, which is scheduled for Tuesday. Dallas won the Week 5 matchup, 14-13. Norfolk is 2.5 games behind Tijuana, with four games to go, and they have to basically win out if they want to have any chances. But looking at their remaining schedule, I really doubt they will make it. They play Dallas in Week 11, and Tijuana in Week 14. Their other two games are against NFC leaders, Minnesota Grey Ducks, and NFC basement dwellers, Portland Pythons. Here is the thing though. Portland is 2.5 games behind a NFC playoff spot. They are still in the mix. It looks impossible, but it can be done. Some simluck is all they need. To put it in perspective, there is no DSFL team that has secured a playoff spot yet. The only team whose status is already determined is Bondi Beach, who are sitting at the bottom of the SFC, with a 1-9 record and are out of playoff contention.
For the sake of it, the current playoff picture is as follows:
NFC: #2 KC @ #1 MIN
SFC: #2 TIJ @ #1 DAL
Let's look at what is at stake for everyone of the other seven teams, with Tuesday's double week coming fast, with the schedule as follows:
Week 11
MIN @ TIJ
NOR @ DAL
POR @ KC
BBB @ LON
Week 12
TIJ @ DAL
POR @ NOR
MIN @ LON
BBB @ KC
Dallas secures the division and HFA in the CC game with two wins, regardless of the MIN @ TIJ result. Norfolk keeps hoping with two wins. If the Seawolves beat the Birddogs, Dallas needs to bead Tijuana to secure the division, regardless of the MIN @ TIJ result. A KC win over Portland eliminates Portland from playoff contention. London miss out on playoffs if they drop both games, and KC win one game. And the funny part is that the NFC can't be clinched on Tueday. Minnesota only has a 0.5 game lead over Kansas City. And London is 1.5 games behind London. The final stretch of DSFL will be crazy. All four teams are in it in the NFC. And three teams are still fighting for two spots in the SFC. The next three sims will be for ALL the marbles. And you bet your ass I will be back with another article after the sim is over on Tuesday. The race heats up, and I will be there to cover it.
Let's move on to the big league. Where things are just as heated, if not more. Thirteen games in, three games to go, and nothing is decided yet. In the ASFC, three teams are tied at 8-5. Arizona, New York, and Orange County, who just can't miss playoffs. San Jose is 1.5 games behind, and NOLA is half a game behind San Jose. In the NSFC the picture is slightly more clear, but still a mess. Berlin and Colorado are tied for #1, with a 10-3 record, with Berlin holding the tie due to a better PD (+97 to Colorado's +88). Sarasota is one game behind them, with the defending champions, Yellowknife, on the outside looking in, two games behind Sarasota. Chicago, Philly, Baltimore, Austin, and Honolulu are eliminated from the playoffs. If the season ended today, Sarasota would face Colorado and Orange County would face New York in the wildcard round, with the winners facing Berlin and Arizona respectively.
Week 14 is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, and let's have a look at the schedule
BER @ SJS
BAL @ YKW
SAR @ PHI
CHI @ COL
AZ @ HON
NY @ AUS
NOLA @ OCO
Berlin's lead over Colorado is very fragile, as it is only 9 PD. Both teams need a win, and by as wide of a margin as possible. If I were to bet on those games, I wouldn't touch the O/U. Both teams need to score as much as they can and concede as little as they can. As for predictions, I would definitely pick both teams to win their games. Yellowknife is also desperate for a win, as a loss, combined with a Sarasota win over Philly eliminates them from playoffs. Sarasota swept Yellowknife, and the now 2-game SAR lead would become a 3-game lead, effectively eliminating the champs from the playoffs. Arizona, New York, and Orange County are in the same fate as Berlin and Colorado, but here, things get trickier. In the games among AZ, NY, and OCO, AZ has a 2-1 record, NY has a 2-1 record, and OCO has a 0-2 record. And the even trickier part is that OCO has to play AZ in W15 and NY in W16. AZ and NY have split their season series, and both teams have a win over OCO. The division is WIDE open. And with SJS and NOLA so close, anything can happen in the last three weeks. Which brings up the question. Is ASFC the division with the most parity, is NSFC a top heavy division, or the truth lies in the middle? And another question I will ask you, and I want to see how you feel down in the comments. Do we need a division realignment?
Thank you for reading all this. See you again after tomorrow's sim, for a review of the games and what's next in the playoff picture! Take care everyone!
