My story
A small boy in Paragould, Arkansas once decided that he would be the best football player in the world. Today, that boy is declaring for the NSFL draft. This is the most exciting time of my life and I look forward to the journey ahead, but first I would like to take a look at the road I traveled to get here.
My father always told me, “Son try your best, you may not be the best, but you can try to be and that’s all anyone can ask.” That has always been my mantra in life. And the results speak for themselves. In high school the awards came easy: All-Conference, All-State, the list goes on and on. It’s all due to my father, he was my guide to this life, and I know he is always with me in my times of need. Today, all I can hope is that he is smiling down on me as I make the biggest decision of my life.
My dearest memories are from Fayetteville. I will always remember being recruited in 2014 by Bret Bielema, Nick Saban, Gus Malzahn, etc. Such powerful men wanted me to join their teams, and being young and naive, I thought that I was going to Alabama on a full ride. Only that when February came to pass, I was asked to grayshirt my freshman year. I couldn’t believe this happened to me. After consulting my family, I called Coach Bielema and explained the situation. He was ecstatic to have me. I never forgot what happened that day. That’s what led me to become All-SEC, All-American, and a Mackey Finalist. Thank you, Coach.
So with all of this behind me, I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and the fans that helped me get to where I am today. I want to remember all that I’ve accomplished, I want to honor my father, and I want to lead a life worth living. Here is to the journeys ahead of me.
Sincerely,
Brandon “Try Your Best” Carter
