For defensive end Cordell Joshua, the prospect of the upcoming season in the DFSL is a very exciting one. Joshua, a prospect from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who earned a reputation for himself in high school football as someone who could power his way through just about any offensive line in the country has recently finished up at Texas Tech where he delivered again, leading their defensive line with scary efficiency. In his senior year with the Red Raiders, Joshua recorded 16 sacks, a new single season record for the team, and turned a lot of heads in the scouting community. Speculation began to grow about where exactly his future could take him, and the answer came earlier this week with his annoucement of his to join the DSFL. A clerical mistake when handling the required paperwork meant however that Joshua's application wasn't received and processed by the league in time for him to be eligible for the S5 DSFL Draft however, and so he must now enter the league as a free agent through the waiver system. With the outcome of the waiver process due to be made public later tonight, Cordell will know exactly where it is that he will begin his career in the league and he can begin to focus on how his game will fit into his new team's system.

The Red Raiders' defensive coordinator David Gibbs has worked with a lot of college players in his time, many of whom have been tipped to go on and do big things. But Gibbs believes that Joshua might actually be the real deal, in an interview with Viva The Matadors, a blog devoted to Texas Tech football he was quoted as saying "The biggest takeaway from this season was how well the guys we had could work as a unit. In particular, the way everyone seemed to feed off the energy that Cordell was bringing was a coach's dream. It was a pleasure every week to watch him go out there and play, the kid's a freak of nature and wherever he ends up playing I have no doubt he's going to be a superstar". The endorsement of a respected coaching figure will go a long way to getting Joshua's name out there, but he has always been someone who prefers to let his actions do the talking. So far he has been an exemplary player on and off the pitch for all the teams he's represented, with a strong academic record at Texas Tech to match his achievements out on the field. Coming from a disadvantaged background, Cordell knows what it's like to go without and has made it his mission to find success through hard work and determination, and with the way things are going it looks like that could well be a reality.

Although the waiver selection process that will enter Joshua into the DSFL is worked entirely behind closed doors, it might be safe to assume that the team with the highest waiver priority, the Chicago Coyotes might look to bring Cordell into the fold. The Coyotes picked first overall in last week's draft and might see bringing in a player like Joshua to be a no-brainer, a sure fire way to inject some life into their defensive line for the upcoming season. Talking to SB Nation yesterday, Cordell said "I'm ready to step in and play a hard game with whatever team I end up with, it won't be the easiest thing to learn a new system and integrate into a new team in a short period of time like this but I can do it. I'm excited, wherever I play being in the DSFL is a dream come true and I'm just going to do what I've always done, make shit happen".
