READY TO BE GRADED
Quenton Bode steps up to the podium, looking out over the crowd of reporters.
"Thanks for being here today. I'll start taking questions now."
There are 11 new linebackers entering the DSFL, what makes you stand out from them? --Huskies311
"Aside from being an adult polar bear?" Laughs
"In all seriousness, I think the difference between me and all the other great linebackers in this draft can be summed up in one word: dedication. I'm dedicated to improving myself, to the sport, to the team, and to winning. I work hard every day, I push my teammates, and I play every game like it's the title game. No one will work as hard to bring home a championship as I will."
Would you rather be drafted to an established DSFL team or a part of an expansion team? --Huskies311
"Let me first say that I'm glad to be entering the DSFL in an expansion year. I think it's great that so many talented players are entering the league. I think it'll be a huge boost to the league, and I'm excited to be a part of it."
"To answer your question, I honestly don't have a preference. I know people have joked about me being a perfect fit for Palm Beach. Going to an established team would mean getting to add my chapter to the team's story, and getting to follow in some of the DSFL/NSFL greats' footsteps. But being drafted by an expansion team would allow me to help shape the culture and attitude of a new team, and that kind of investment is felt for years to come. I think I'll have a fantastic opportunity to succeed with any team that drafts me, and I'll do my best no matter where I end up."
"I wouldn't mind ending up on a team with Mo Berry. He and I worked well together at Nebraska, and that chemistry would certainly give us an edge in the DSFL."
Would you be willing to take snaps at other positions, or are you determined to only play at linebacker? --EnfysNest
"I'll play wherever the team needs me to play. If that's linebacker, then I'll play linebacker. If I need to play another position, then I'll do that to the best of my ability. I'm not the kind of bear who gets hung up on stuff like that. I would hate to see the team suffer because I refused to change and adapt. I'd much rather win, even if that means playing something other than linebacker."
Are there any particular NFL linebackers you want to emulate? --EnfysNest
"Chad Greenway, Luke Kuechly, and Junior Seau are all favorites of mine. If I had to pick one, I'd have to go with Greenway. He put in a lot of work, focused on doing his job and doing it well, was a loyal player, and did--and is doing--a lot of good things off the field. He's a good example of what an NFL player should be, and I think more people should emulate him."
What would you bring to whichever team drafts you? --EnfysNest
"I'd bring a work ethic and a desire to win. I pride myself on being a team player. I don't particularly care about individual awards or accolades. Those things are great, don't get me wrong, but that's not why I play. Playing a team sport to win individual awards, to me, is like putting the cart before the horse. I play to win championships, and that means putting the team first. So I'll work hard and do whatever I can to see the team succeed. If I work hard enough, those individual accomplishments will follow."
Are you a bear? --timeconsumer
"Yes. Specifically, I'm an Ursus maritimus--a polar bear."
How would it feel to be the first ursine to play professional football? --timeconsumer
"It'd be a great feeling, not gonna lie. I've already stated how much I appreciate being a part of this chapter in DSFL history, and adding my name to the history books in another way would be fantastic. I want to be an inspiration to any bear cubs out there, who might think that they can't succeed in the human world. I want to be living proof that bears can make it."
Does this mean you'd prefer to play for the Solar Bears? --timeconsumer
Laughs If they want me, sure. But I don't want to play for a team just because their mascot looks like me. I want to play for a team that wants me as a football player, that wants to succeed as badly as I do. The jersey I wear doesn't impact my ability to play football, and won't affect the effort I give. I'm going to play hard, no matter where I go. It's just a matter of who wants me the most."
What kind of bear is best? --Ben
"The gummi kind."
"That's all the time I have for now. Thanks for coming out."
