With so many prospects competing in the DSFL Prospect Tournament, it is hard to catch up with every single player after every single game. That being said, after the Midwest Wolfpack’s 13-9 victory of the Atlantic Blackbirds we were able to meet with Wolfpack Tight End, Chase Jensen, to talk about the tournament as a whole, how he thinks he has performed, and even the upcoming draft and some of the other prospects who have declared.
Hi Chase, first of all you’ve had two great games in the tournament so far. What can you contribute these early successes to?
Well, I think that my experience in playing with the Kansas City Coyotes definitely helped me out which is helping me play at this level in the tournament so far. It’s just a lot easier to go out there when you have at least a little bit of experience playing against guys who are bigger and faster than you used to playing against. Additionally, I think that just my hard work in the weight room and on the practice field are showing. I go out there every single day and train as hard as I possibly can. I’m always the first on the field and the last off. Some people might just see this as a daily grind and get worn down, but I can guarantee you that that is not the case for me. I love to do anything I can to hone my craft even further. So yeah, I know that that was a lot of rambling on my part, but I would say experience and work ethic is what is leading to these results.
So the Midwest Wolfpack are off to a 2-0 start and you currently sit in first place for receiving yards amongst tight ends. Any thoughts on this?
I think it’s awesome that the Wolfpack is doing so well right now. The defense has been absolutely lights out for us so far this tournament, but I would really like to see the offense turn the jets on down the stretch. I know it takes a lot of chemistry development to really get an offense clicking, but I’m always hoping for more. Yeah I think I have something like 90 yards through the first two games, but yeah I would prefer that to be 90 yards over 1 game and maybe throw in a touchdown or two for me. I have no doubt that once we all get drafted to our real DSFL teams things will start to look a little bit prettier for us. I think that there are a lot of good tight end prospects in this tournament though, so I feel really blessed to be in a situation where I can be leading in receiving yards. I think any of us could have been in this situation, so it’s pretty cool to be the one that is balling out right now.
Speaking of the draft, do you have any predictions for how you think the draft will go down?
Look, I would like to speculate for you, but I really don’t think that is my place to guess. There are a ton of excellent players who have declared already. I imagine that it is going to be a mad house for the general managers to figure out what they are doing in this one because I don’t even honestly know where I would begin. I personally believe myself to be an early round talent, but I’m not a general manager so I hope that I can just go out there and do what I do and that that will be enough to impress them. I think that there are at least a couple players who stand out at each position so I think that they will all go early. The winners of this draft will be determined by which teams can grab the best depth.
Okay, so what you are saying is that you don’t really want to comment on how you think other players will be drafted? Let’s go in a different direction then. Are there any teams that specifically stand out to you? Maybe a team that you would like to get drafted by?
Well first of all I honestly think that all of the general managers and coaches in the DSFL are excellent. I respect the heck out of them for what they are able to do with a bunch of prospects that are just declaring for the league. I really don’t think that there is a weak link out there so no matter where I, or any other player for that matter, land I know that I will be in good hands for my development as a player as well as being legitimate contenders for the championship. That being said, I think that I am getting pretty good vibes from the Palm Beach Solar Bears. I’ve talked extensively with their general managers and I just think that my play style is going to mesh really well with what they want to do there. They have big plans for how they want to build a championship team and I think I could play a significant role in helping them attain their goal. Ultimately, I will be happy wherever I end up and I am going to play my heart out each and every game.
Alrighty, we have time for one more question, I think. Who do you think is going to win the prospect tournament and why is it the Midwest Wolfpack?
Hahaha, well yeah obviously I think that they Wolfpack are going to come away with the victory. I mean, why wouldn’t we at this point. We are off to a very strong start and I don’t think that we are going to just roll over when we face another good team. We’ve found ways to get it done right now. We definitely need to clean some things up, but all in all we are in a very good position to win this thing. Alright, thanks guys. I can’t wait to talk to you guys again and go Wolfpack.
