[ready to be graded]
Who are you exactly?
Are you kidding me? You call yourself a reporter and you've never heard of me? I am Georgia Tech's star player Xerxes "The Dragon" Ridley. Do some f*cking homework before you get yourself in some trouble.
Right....sorry. Anyways, you asked for this presser to address the DSFL before draft day. What was it you wanted to say?
I wanted to put every player in the league on notice. The DSFL will never be the same once I'm a part of it. So to the Luchadores and the Coyotes, enjoy your final game in the Old DSFL because come next season, I will be running the show. You all probably think you've seen it all when it comes to cocky cornerbacks coming out of college, but you've never seen anyone like me. I don't need to pander to any teams to draft me because once the season starts, I'll be playing catch with five different quarterbacks. And to all the receivers in the league, you better start begging your front offices to draft me before I embarrass each and every one of you in front of the world.
These are some strong words from a player before the Combine or draft day. What makes you think that players will believe any of this?
Haha, I hope they don't. I can't wait to see their faces when they realize that they're stuck on the field with the Dragon. To any players dumb enough to ignore this warning, I can't wait to expose your offense and demonstrate who the supreme athlete on the field is.
Interesting...do you have any other statements to make to the league?
Well I'd like to remind all the front offices to take advantage of my rookie deal before they start having to break the bank to have this kind of talent on their rosters. Skill isn't cheap, so invest early before the whole world knows what I'm worth.
Of course. Well, thank you for your time. Good luck at the combine and over the rest of your career. I hope to see big things out of you.
Good luck to you too for the rest of your journalism career. Years from now, you'll look back at this as the biggest scoop you ever had. And hopefully you learned a thing or two about preparation haha.
Are there any NFL cornerbacks that you'd like to replicate in the NSFL game?
I really like the way Richard Sherman handles his business. He knows when to talk sh*t and when to swallow his pride and admit his mistakes. It's always fun to get on the league's nerves when they know you can back it up. That being said, I know I'm still a rookie and I have plenty of room for improvement, but watch out, when I'm a seasoned vet, there won't be anybody close.
How are you going to separate yourself from the other draftees in this massive draft class?
I've done my best to be true to myself. I'm sure you've seen some of the other pressers by now full of bright-eyed prospects just trying to "have fun" and get on people's good sides. No, f*ck that. I'm not here for me, I'm here to live my dad's dream and I have too much at stake to not do everything I can to be the best. I'm not apologetic, I'm not going to be censored, but I will win.
Any DSFL teams you're interested in? How about NSFL teams?
As I said before, I'm not looking to pander to any specific team in either league. I'm interested in teams looking to win. I'm interested in teams that know that they'd rather have me on their sideline. Period.
Any DSFL quarterbacks you're excited to play against?
I'd love to knock Wozy down a peg, whether that be at practice or at the Ultimini.
Would you prefer to play on an established team or a expansion, up and coming team?
Clearly you haven't been listening. As I said before, I don't care which team I end up on next season. If you want some elaboration, all I'm looking for is a team that wants to win and that can help me grow as a player. By that, I mean a team with a sound defensive coaching staff to help me hone my technique and to provide me feedback throughout the season. I know I'm great, but I'm not foolish enough to think I can't improve.
Do you have any weaknesses?
Haha, you almost got me! I'm not going to publicly expose my weaknesses for receivers to study up on! If they want to know, they'll just have to figure me out on their own.
Is there a type of wide reciever that you struggle against more then others?
Throughout college, I struggled with the explosive deep threat receivers. While I have the eyes and hands to stop a play, I struggled to keep up with the speed that some players brought. However, ever since the college season ended, I've been working hard to improve my burst and to read those types of receivers better.
What kind of bear is best?
Haha what? What kind of question is this? I guess as a California boy I am partial to the California grizzly, but I don't have much of an opinion on the matter.
What are your expectations of the Atlanta Blackbirds for the Prospect Bowl?
I expect big things out of the Blackbirds. We're one of a few teams taking the double quarterback system seriously and I think it will end up very deadly once we nail the execution. It might also lead to some rough patches in the first few games as the receivers and running backs iron out the logistics of having two field generals to follow. In addition, we have a very hungry secondary that is just dying to get picks on the young quarterbacks. It's hard to see how far any of the teams will go in the playoffs, as none of these players have taken official DSFL snaps yet, but obviously I'm looking to win the whole bowl with the Blackbirds. I've been hearing a lot of hype surrounding the Pacific Owls, so I guess if I had to predict, I'd say we beat them in the championship game.
