Pacific Owls finally in the win column this week in a defensive victory of 17-9 over the Central Grizzlies. The victory was capped of by Defensive player of the week Defensive Back Andrew Solomon. CB Solomon's ball hawking ability was on display. He finished with 7 Tck, 2 Int, 1 Def TD. Defensive Coordinator Sag Bobbit had this to say, "Andrew has the unique ability to make plays and generate turnovers." This was not the only presence seen by the Legion of Hoot. It seemed that every player was able to find their way into the backfield when the owls needed to most to get the Grizzlies off the field or to settle for a field goal. Mo Berry and defensive linemen Memphis Wilkerson, Bruce Waynner, and Elliot Kamaka JR. all were able to get to quarterback Gimmy Jaroppolo. Sag Bobbit really Drew up the most pressure by sending the secondary on blitzes that caught Jaroppolo by surprise. Strong Safeties Jack Rambo and Richard D'Attoria V pinned their ears back and brought Jaroppolo down to the turf. These sacks we're not the only issues in the backfield as Mo Berry had critical tackle for losses in the red zone to stop momentum for the Grizzlies who seemed to be getting close to score. "I just knew we had to just not break, Forrest Gump is one of the most talented running backs out there so he's gonna run on us it was just going to come down to us making sure he doesn't cross the end zone. I just like to thank my fellow brothers on D for making plays." Lastly but certainly not least was Tony Gabagool who seemed to be everywhere Gump tried to go with a total of 15 tackles on the day.
The offense of the Owls still seemed to be stuck in the tree this week as Ryan Leaf JR. had another poor outing in the passing game. Whether it was dropped passes, an interception, of miss communication on routes Things just didn't seem to go the Owls way. Leaf JR. was threw for less than a hundred yards and completed less than 50% of his passes on the day. The lone rushing touchdown came.to a.somewhat controversial decision by Leaf JR to run the ball into the end zone with only 25 seconds left on the clock with the game out of reach. It is hard to tell if the frustration of the running quarterback playing in a different scheme than he was used to in his collegiate career. Next week will feature the battle of the birds as the Legion of Hoot will try to ground the dual quarter back attack of TJ Hendrix and Apollo Lange.
