The Pacific Owls have found their rhythm and made a glorious comeback to find themselves in the Prospect Bowl Playoffs! After two very disappointing losses, the Owls finally clicked and go from starting 0-2 to now 3-2 coming off a 3 game hot streak. This is going to be an overview of the final game of the regular season against the Midwest Wolfpack.
Let's start by having a look at the defense that has been doing absolute work to propel this team into the playoffs.
Everyone has been doing their part on defense and have only given up 71 points which is the lowest in the league! The team that is right behind them in points allowed are actually the Wolfpack with 74. Let's talk about this game by position starting with the monstrous Linebacker duo of Tony Gabagool @shipwreckrising and Mo Berry @Frick_Nasty. These guys combined for a total of 19 tackles with Gabagool accounting for 13 of them which led the team. They also had a pass defended each and Gabagool topped off the stats with an interception and forced fumble. Mo Berry disrupted the offense closer to the line with a sack on QB John Tebow. Both of these guys are going early in the DSFL draft with their fantastic tackling and speed. With their level of play, I don't doubt that for a second.
Next I want to talk about another duo on the Owls defense. The cornerback duo of Andrew Solomon @ZoomerMcGee and Neon Demon @kissthe6rings have been looking like Cirque Du Soleil flying all over the place. Now with a few games of working in tandem behind them, their communication and skills have began to improve dramatically. In this past game against the Wolfpack, Solomon ended with 7 tackles, 1 interception and his 2nd defensive touchdown. The man is a menace! Neon Demon also played his own version of disruption with 5 tackles, and 3 passes defended. DSFL QBs should be wary about where they toss the ball around these guys.
Now onto the Pacific Owls Safeties! They were fairly quiet this game combining for 17 total tackles. The standout from this group was Richard D'Attoria V @124715 who finished with 8 tackles and one of those tackles being for a loss. Jack Rambo @oz3700 also pressured the Wolfpack QB and got himself a sack paired with 2 tackles.
In the trenches DT Bruce Wayyner @[BruceWayyner] and DE Memphis Wilkerson @ShackDad held the running game to 121 yards total without allowing a single touchdown. Wilkerson also picked up the forced fumble by Gabagool and ran with lightning speed for 1 yard. These guys are improving and communicating properly to cover holes that the offensive line tries to create. Well done D Line!
Onto the offensive side of the ball that is finally firing on all cylinders. A scheme change, a hot streak, and home field advantage created the perfect storm for the Owls to fly! Not sure how many owls fly in storms, but you get my point. To start the offensive part of your scheduled programming, I'll be talking about Owls QB Ryan Leaf Jr.
Ryan Leaf Jr. @ValorX77 had a day. With a scheme change to a Spread offense, Leaf was able to move around the field at will without having to worry much about pressure. He was able to take off when necessary and did just that with an absolutely insane 87 yard run to get a stew going for the Owls offense. Leaf then went on to drive down the field and threw the tightest of spirals to TE Cameron Olsen @Rradum for the Owls second touchdown of the game. Leaf was fairly quiet after that and allowed the rest of the teams pieces to do work.
Ludicolo Bigby @TheWoZy took a backseat to Ben Bortboy @spinarnie in this game. Bigby has done more than enough in the Prospect Bowl to show is high value for this years DSFL Draft. Bortboy played very well and showed that behind the backup mask was a starter all along! It's like those movie tropes where the girl takes her glasses off and suddenly she's gorgeous. Except in this scenario she's fast and sweaty. Bortboy went on in this game to accumulate 95 yards on 22 attempts netting him a 4.3 YPC. To be honest, if Bigby and Bortboy landed on the same team, they would be a force to be reckoned with. Also, you could call them GroundB&B. Yeah, I know I'm clever.
Onto the Wide Receivers, or should I say receiver. Dashawn Jackson @yoyo13 is a speed demon (not to be confused with Neon Demon) but had a quiet day and let his teammates show off this time. He finished the game with 43 yards on 4 receptions with a solid YPC of 10.8. He may have been quiet this game, but look for him in the upcoming playoffs and towards the top of the DSFL Draft after his previous performances.
Disclaimer: I am Cameron Olsen. I'll try not to be super biased. Promise.
Cameron Olsen was an absolute monster! Got em! But really, both TEs for the Owls have been consistent throughout the weeks putting up solid receiving numbers while also putting their blocking skills to work. Jammerson Irving @contacts had a quiet game today after the teams scheme change to a spread offense. Irving has been a major factor in the passing game in multiple games and has shown off his blocking expertise time and time again. With the new spread offense, Cameron Olsen was a split out to the left side for most of the game allowing him to catch a touchdown from Leaf Jr. at the beginning of the 2nd quarter. This was Olsens first touchdown of his DSFL career and hopefully the first of many. Jammerson Irving has yet to score a touchdown but there's still plenty of games left before the draft as long as the Owls can secure a victory in the first round today.
The Kicker for the Owls, THE Alex Dasistwirklichseinnachname @BigKicks , has been 100% on extra points, and has only missed 2 out of 8 field goals. One of the misses was from between 40-49 yards and the other one that we don't like to talk about was from 20-29 yards. If any team needs a kicker, I think he'll be your guy as I've said time and time again.
And so concludes my in depth and absolutely, completely unbiased analysis of the Pacific Owls game against the Midwest Wolfpack. Give me some feedback so I can improve in the future. Don't worry, I can take it! [/div]
That's what she said.
