With the prospect bowl over and the Cobras as champions let's break down some of the clutches guys on the team, the kickers.
These are the weirdos that hang out by themselves kicking nets all day waiting for their 15 seconds of play time that make or break games. These guys are either beloved or hated, there's really no in between. Are these prospects the next Vinatieri or Blair Walsh?
First we look at the easy stats, the extra points. The offense (sometimes defense) did all the hard work to get in the endzone all they have to do is make a short gimme. Let's see who was the best.
Lucky Dickerson - 9/9 (100%)
Baxter Frost - 3/3 (100%)
Charlie Day - 6/7 (85%)
Gabriel Johnson - 7/9 (77%)
The golden leg of Lucky Dickerson did not let down his high scoring offense by hitting every kick. Frost hit everyone as well but the tropics offense couldn't score a touchdown if a dieing kid from make a wish was running for them. Day missed only one kick with Johnson missing two but still making the second most of all the kickers.
Now let's look at kicks under 30 yards. These are basically gimme kicks so let's see who was the most accurate on short kicks.
Baxter Frost - 5/5 (100%)
Gabriel Johnson - 2/3 (67%)
Lucky Dickerson - 1/2 (50%)
Charlie Day - 1/2 (50%)
Frost was automatic on any kick within the 20 as you'd want your kickers to be. Johnson hits 2 of his 3, while Day and Dickerson both went 1 for 2.
Now let's see what happens for kicks deeper than 30 yards but under 40.
Baxter Frost - 2/2 (100%)
Gabriel Johnson - 4/5 (80%)
Lucky Dickerson - 3/4 (75%)
Charlie Day - 3/6 (50%)
Frost again, does not miss even though Johnson made twice as many with three extra attempts. Dickerson missed one kick and Day really hurt his team missing three kicks.
Now let's see who really has the power. Kickers today need to make any kick less than 50 yards so let's see who was the best between 40 and 50 yards.
Charlie Day - 5/5 (100%)
Lucky Dickerson - 5/6 (83%)
Baxter Frost - 3/4 (75%)
Gabriel Johnson - 2/4 (50%)
Charlie Day came up big when needed on the long kicks drilling all five of his kicks. Dickerson also nailed five but missed one. Frost looks to be human missing a kick for one and Johnson only hit half of his deep kicks.
If we are going to talk about deep kicks let's see who kicked the bombs over 50 yards. This is were we separate the men from the boys.
Lucky Dickerson - 2/2 (100%)
Baxter Frost - 1/1 (100%)
Charlie Day - 1/2 (50%)
Gabriel Johnson- 0/1 (0%)
Johnson is the only guy who didn't hit over fifty and the golden buy Lucky Dickerson is the only one to hit two bombs. Him and Frost both hit all their kicks and Day split his two kicks.
Finally the most important stat for a kicker is how clutch they can be. No one cares about the 40 yarder you hit when the team is up 14 they care about the game winners in the playoffs. So let's look at their playoff stats.
Baxter Frost - 1/1 on Extra Points, 2/2 on Field Goals.
Lucky Dickerson - 4/4 Extra Points, 2/3 on Field Goals.
Charlie Day - 7/7 Extra Points, 1/3 on Field Goals.
Gabriel Johnson - 5/5 Extra Points, 3/4 on Field Goals.
So the best kickers the last 6 weeks were both eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Frost helped his team being perfect on all his kicks. Dickerson on the other hand became an enemy in Ponoma as his lone miss of the game was a 27 yarder that would've tied the game with a minute left in regulation. Day and Johnson were both perfect on their extra points but Johnson was more accurate on his field goals.
Total Stats
Baxter Frost - 17/18 (94%)
Lucky Dickerson - 26/30 (87%)
Charlie Day - 24/32 (75%)
Gabriel Johnson - 23/31 (74%)
Baxter Frost only missed one kick the entire prospect bowl which is unreal. His only knock on him is he has half the kicks of his peers due to the lackluster offense of the Tropics. Dickerson nailed the most kicks with 26 at an 87% clip which is also unreal. Day and Johnson had very similar prospect bowls with only a one kick difference between the two.
