Week 9
Buccaneers 57 over Seawolves 13 - The Buccaneers went on the road in this one and had what was likely their most impressive game of the season. On the back of a monstrous rushing attack and a stifling defense, Myrtle Beach absolutely dominated this one. They used Ricardo Rose as the workhorse in this one as he ground out 120 yards and a TD, but his consistent play was reinforced by the walking highlight reel of @siddhus (Siddhu Sarvepally) who averaged 6.6 yards per carry on his way to 106 yards and two scores. They started off a bit slow as the Seawolves went up 3-0 in the first quarter. Then with just 2:11 left in the quarter, the Buccaneers put up 21 points in 1:54. A rushing score by @siddhus (Siddhu Sarvepally) , a quick three and out, an incredible 66 yard punt return by @RainDelay22 (Rayne Gordon), and then a six yard interception return by @scorycory (Kacey Dream) happened in rapid succession. They absolutely buried the hapless Seawolves in a mountain of points and made it clear they had no chance to come out the victors in this one. The rest of the game was simply a formality.
Pythons 33 over Luchadores 23 - The first minute or regulation really wrote the story in this one. Tripping penalty by Blocksdale sets the Luchadores back to their own six yard line. Blocksdale fumbles the ball, luckily recovered by one of his offensive linemen. Blocksdale throws an interception that is run in for a touchdown by Portland’s McTaco the very next play. It was one minute of agony for Tijuana and it didn’t end there as they were never able to take the lead from then on. Jah Bur’Berry was a first down machine for Portland in this game, converting on third down three of his six catches and converting on second on another. Mix this in with a 24 yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter that sealed the deal for Portland and he had a player of the game type performance despite what his numbers might indicate. Defensively for Portland, it was @Moosecop (Galf Wilf) who again found himself making plays all over the field. On a day where @KC15 (Jed Podolak) was tearing through the Luchadores defensive line, it was up to Wilf to slow him down. Podolak still managed 6.1 yards a carry and was a bright spot for Tijuana, but Wilf stopped him on third down on four different occasions, three of which resulted in Tijuana field goals instead of touchdowns. Those plays may have very well be the difference in a game like this.
Coyotes 13 over Grey Ducks 7 - This is going to be one that the Grey Ducks wish they had back. The Coyotes have been playing surprisingly solid defense all season long and led the league in interceptions coming in. They picked off four more against Minnesota and forced a fumble that they recovered. Five turnovers is hard for any team to overcome. At the end of the day, the Grey Ducks played solidly. Defensively they held Kansas City to just 213 yards of offense or just 3.2 yards per play as @Acsolap (Thor Kirkby) and @DonnoMania (Beat) both played sideline to sideline and completely smothered the Coyotes. Holding Kansas City to just 13 with 5 turnovers is a monument in itself and Minnesota can at least walk away feeling good about that even if this one stings a little.
Week 10
Luchadores 23 over Buccaneers 13 - These two teams are in an absolute dog fight for first place of their conference and when they meet up with each other, it results in a game that is rarely disappointing. Myrtle Beach started off fast as they picked off Blocksdale in the first quarter and drove it down for their first score of the night. It gave them a lead that they managed to hold for two and a half quarters in large part to their defense. The beef boys on the line, @BigUnitBabs (Bobby Boucher) and @AdamS (Awkward Sexjoke) did their job well as they stifled the rushing attack of Tijuana and kept Myrtle Beach in this one despite their own rushing attack having a rare off day. But then a huge 10 yard sack by @inverted96 (Kyle Idlewyld)96 half way through the third led to a blocked punt and a short field for the Luchadores. One 40 yard boot from @KanakoSquirrel (Jordan Jackson) later and the Luchadores tied the game. It was at this point that everything started bouncing in Tijuana’s favor. Five plays later, Myrtle Beach fumbled and had it returned to their own 10 yard line. Two passes from @iamslm22 (Avon Blocksdale Jr) later and the Luchadores were up. In just 2:30, Tijuana had blown this game wide open. It was at that point Tijuana’s defense locked down and refused to give anymore ground. Four tackles for a loss by @inverted96 (Kyle Idlewyld)96, a sack and three tackles that allowed less than a yard combined from Barnabas Cole, and a sack from @W.Sconnie (Inspectah Deck) resulted in a total of -12 yards allowed by these three players in the final 20 minutes of play. When Tijuana needed their defensive stars to step up, they showed up in a big way and did not allow Myrtle Beach a way back into this one.
Pythons 23 over Grey Ducks 3 - At this point it is hard to not be concerned about the offense for the Grey Ducks. In this string of road games they can’t quite seem to find their groove as they’ve managed to combine for 13 total points and less than 250 yards per game. They cleaned up their turnovers, but the Pythons outgained them 426 yards to 216. Minnesota was never really in this one. Fortunately, their defense is still doing what it can as they continue to put together a solid group effort. No real standouts, but they forced the Pythons into three field goals in the red zone and showed some inspired grit despite being on the field for 35 minutes of this game due to the lack of extended drives by Minnesota. This effort is a big part of why @Baron1898 (Venus Powers) was the star of this game as he nailed in all three of his attempts from range, making sure the Grey Ducks would never have a chance back in this one even if they did sort out their offensive woes.
