Hey guys, Professor Chaos again! It's been a while since we've done this, but as part of our 20th season celebration, we're inducting 2 new members into the SaberCats Hall of Fame ahead of tonight's season finale vs. Yellowknife.
In case you forgot, our previous inductees:
Class of S10
Class of S12
Now for the first member of this induction class. This one shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone as he is probably the most decorated player in franchise history, winning Quarterback of the Year once, Offensive Player of the Year twice & the SaberCats only league MVP award. I'm of course referring to the one & only JOLIET L. CHRIST! In the S10 Draft, we took a chance by not taking a QB with either of our top 2 picks, but luckily Philly decided to take the same gamble & left us with choice between Christ & Adriana Falconi. Based on the results, I think we made the right call. During his 7 seasons in the league, Christ led the SaberCats to the postseason 6 times, including 2 Ultimus appearances & their only Ultimus victory in S14. A literal cheat code in fantasy football, Christ led all quarterbacks in rushing yards 4 times from S14-17 & ranks 2nd all-time behind only Mat Akselsen in rushing yards by a QB. Off the field, @`AndrewWarren13` served as my GM partner for parts of 6 seasons, winning back to back GM of the Year awards in S12 & S13.
Now, for our second inductee of the evening...
With Christ being included in this class, it's only fitting that his most reliable target be enshrined alongside him. Our first ever #1 pick in S9, XAVIER FLASH spent parts of 9 seasons in SaberCats green & contrary to his name, there was nothing flashy about him. @Leafs4ever showed up every day, got his work in & never complained about his role despite being deemed "irrelevant" by several members of the media. During the SaberCats' run of excellence from S12-15, Flash along with Kazimir Oles formed one of the most feared receiver tandems in league history. While he never won any major awards, Flash's sure-handedness provided a sense of calm in the SJS offense as he went an incredible 6 straight seasons without dropping a single pass to end his career.
As part of this announcement, Christ's #11 & Flash's #24 are officially retired. Congrats boys, love you both!
