A. General information
William Lim stands at 6'2",195lbs, which can't be said either undersized or very tall. He was a three year student and graduate of Seoul university in south Korea. Some scouts had been concerned about his communication abilities, as english is not his mother tongue, but were reported to be satisfied with his english and communication abilities after interviewing him. His speed is not that impressive with a 4.55 40-yard dash, but he makes up with his above average agility and good hands.
B. Strengths
Lim's greatest strength is his hands without a doubt. He had not recorded a single drop in his junior season at seoul, which is quite impressive as he started all 13 games and had 129 receptions along with 1,058 yards. Lim is definately one of the most reliable receiver prospects in this draft with his constancy and spectacular catch abilities.
Another strength of Lim is his durability. He never suffered any major injury, with the most severe one being a hairline fracture to his tailbone he suffered due to a rather unfortunate hit-by-pitch which was a direct hit to said tailbone. Lim also managed to invade any major hamsring injuries-one of the most common type of injury among both baseball and football players-bar some minor sprains and pains. He was known to play the whole season helathy as a baseball player, and participated in all of his college football games full time, which further adds to the argument of his durability.
Lim haven't had any notable off field issue during his career as both baseball and football player. He also has good work ethic, often being described as hard working and diligent by his coached from both sports he played. He is also known to not neglect basic strength and flexibility excercises which somewhat explains his lack of major injuries like described above.
C. Weaknesses
Lim's greatest weakness, and scouters' main source of doubt about him, is his short football career. Lim has the shortest football career among the S22 DSFL prospect class, with his only experience with somewhat high level amateur football being his one and a half season stint with the seoul universityji9. Apart from that, he played football at his high school, with a recreational team, which did not aim to participate in any recognized competitive activities. With this lack of experience, Lim would need some time to adjust to pro level football, or in worst case, wouldln't be able to adjust to it at all.
His speed is another point of concern. With his 4.55 second record in 40 yard dash, Lim is by no means a slow wide receiver. But with speed being the meta with wide receivers in both NSFL and DSFL recently and presense of many faster receiver prospects make him seem slower. He will need some improvements on his speed in order to thrive in pro level.
Also, the fact he hadn't faced any elite cornerbacks is a point of doubt. As Korean college football is not in the same level with its American counterparts, Lim didn't face much pressure from opposing corners during his college career, peeling them away with ease using his agilityand speed. Wether he can perform in pro level against elite level corners of pro leagues, who are equally if not more agile and faster than him as he did in college remains a major question.
D. Final thoughts
William Lim is projected as 3rd-5th best wide receiver on the board among S22 wide receiver class by various prospect evaluators, and he is considered one of the most reliable receivers in his class. Despite his weaknesses, Lim certainly has talent and potential to be a good wide receiver in both DSFL and NSFL if he continue to improve himself. If he does not, he might end up as another failed international prospect.
His chances of success in the league aside, Lim is certainly a very interesting prospect to watch with the journey he went through until now and the talent he possesses.
