What up everyone, this is your boy coming at you with another interview, and we’re real excited! Today we got one of the three big time cornerbacks from the Minnesota Grey Ducks, Ty Shields in the house! Ty, thanks for coming out, I know how busy you are with the season underway. The team looks pretty good so far; nice win against great competition in week 2. Anyway bro, let’s get into these questions so we can get you out of here.
Looks like you’re off to a great start, second in the team in tackles and tackles for loss! How’s it been for you?
I've been very happy with my performance so far. I'm really hoping that I can keep it up and be a key piece on this defense. Our defense in Minnesota has so many big time players, which makes it even more special to me that I've been able to stand out among them so far. Since the run game is so important in the DSFL/NSFL, I'm hoping that I can keep up the run support that I've been able to provide so far. The fact that I've notched a couple of TFLs shows that my tackles are probably in the run game, rather than the result of giving up catches. Only one pass broken up in two games isn't exactly where I want to be, but I like to think that at least part of the reason for that is because I'm all over the receiver, forcing the QB to look to another option. I really need to get my interceptions up if I want to really help the team. Creating turnovers are key for winning. If I can grab some picks, I could completely turn the tide of a game.
What’s your current focus, build-wise; why are you choosing that strategy?
I've been getting some build help from my NSFL GM, Bayley, and my future partner in crime, HEOB (Osiris Firestorm-Fjord), in Chicago. Lately, I've been working towards 90 speed. I'm between 87 and 88 right now, so I'm getting pretty close. Once I get to 90, I'll have to consult with HEOB to see what I should work on next. I think that after I get to my speed goal, I'll start working on strength for a bit. The reason I'm working on those attributes is because apparently there's an analysis by iSteg somewhere (I haven't been able to find it) that revealed that speed and strength are two of the most important things to raise for a cornerback. I've been working on speed for quite a while, so it's going to be nice to finally reach my goal and be able to switch up and work on something different. I think that I'll get to that goal in a week or so.
What’s different about playing cornerback in the National Simulation Fantasy League and how will your skill set translate?
I guess that I don't really know what's different about playing cornerback in the NSFL as opposed to the DSFL, because I've never been to the NSFL before. My guess is that everyone is going to be faster and stronger than I'm used to in the DSFL. One thing that I know is constant between the leagues is the importance of speed, and I've been working hard on that. If I keep working, I think my skill set can translate well enough to stick around for quite a while? At least, I hope so. I'm going to have to keep working hard and progressing, so that it's easier to adjust. I'm sure there will be growing pains, but I'm going to minimize them anyway that I can.
What are your chances of getting playing time in the National Simulation Fantasy League game for season 23?
I think that there's a legitimate chance that I could see a call up for season 23. As far as I know, the Chicago Butchers only have two cornerbacks this season, and I think that one is fairly deep into regression. I'm not completely sure how regression works, so I'm not sure if I'll surpass him by season 23. I'm not going to lie, getting called up, whenever that happens, is going to be bittersweet. I love Minnesota and I love the locker room. When it happens, though, I'm going to do my part to make Chicago a premier destination and a contender as soon as possible. If I don't surpass the regressing CB, I honestly wouldn't mind staying in Minnesota for one more season at all. I don't think Chicago will be ready to contend yet, and the higher salary would help me to keep progressing quicker. Plus, that would mean I'd get to stick with the QUACK SQUAD for one more season, and be one of the vets. I'm just going to cherish my time in Minnesota, and keep preparing to be called up whenever I'm needed.
Who’s showing you the ropes at the next level, and what do you think about your National Simulation Fantasy League locker room?
At the next level, my GM Bayley and the cornerback that I'm going to be playing across from, HalfEatenOnionBagel have been the ones helping me out. They're both really nice, and fun to talk to. I've also just been getting advice and picking things up here and there from the Grey Ducks locker room. My NSFL locker room is pretty good. It's a little quiet there sometimes, especially when compared to Minnesota's, so hopefully that will change soon. I'm hoping that some Ducks will be able to join me in the next draft! Overall, everyone that I've talked to in the Chicago locker room is really nice, and I've enjoyed the time I've spent there, but it's definitely nothing like our Grey Ducks locker room.
Who is the third all-time sack leader in the National Simulation Fantasy League history?
I've only been around for one season, so I had to find an old NSFL record book and dust it off to take a look. It looks to me like the 3rd place player on the all time sack leaders is Arizona Outlaws legend Harrif Ernston. Interesting! Maybe next time I'm asked that question, I'll be able to say, "Oh, that's obviously Mario VonPebbles!"
Who do you want to shout out?
You didn't say I could only shout out one person, so I'd like to shout out a bunch of people. First, pretty much the whole Grey Ducks locker room hahah. MoonMoon is always there to talk to, and always friendly. Tylus is one of the most underrated wide receivers in the league, and is one of the coolest guys I've talked to in the league. Jango, you're always there to rally the troops and make sure we're focused on our goal, while having fun as well. Our GM Dewalt is always in there chatting with us and keeping us in line, hahah. I can't shout out everyone specifically - that would take too long - but those I mentioned, Machoman, Jamar, Matt, Philip, Darkness, EVERYONE has been great and helped me to enjoy this season immensely. I'd also like to shout out my NSFL GM Bayley, who I know I've already mentioned in the previous questions. Always there to help. Always hyping me up, telling me how happy they are that they got such a steal in the 11th round. I think we've got something good brewing in Chicago, it just might take some time to get it out there. Again, they've already been mentioned, but I'd also like to shout out HEOB for helping me out and hyping me up on Twitter haha. By the way, everyone go follow me @CB1TY. Thanks for the questions!
This guy! That’s a shout record for sure. Seems like you’re really fitting into the league really well buddy.
Tell you right now! Getting a max earner active player in the 11th round is no fucking joke! Those are the kinds of picks that turn teams around. Chicago needs you going forward and it seems like you’re gonna be pretty happy there.
It was really nice having you in here and getting some of that refreshing perspective off you. Hopefully we’ll get another chance to chop it up again before too long. Take care of yourself big dog!
Alright ya’ll! Ty Shields. The unquestioned steal of the S22 NSFL draft; hands down.
Thanks to everyone for reading this and make sure you keep an eye out for more content from your boy.
One love!
