Eric Richards adjusts the bowtie on his tuxedo for what felt like the hundredth time. It was a going to be both an exciting and stressful week for him, with the wedding today and the awards show 3 days from then. He had proposed to Clair Jones at a fancy dinner in a London restaurant, and now is the time to get hitched.
"Does it looks good Dad?" He asks nervously "I want to look prefect for her"
"For the hundredth time yes son." His dad Dean chuckled "you remind me of myself when me and your mother got hitched, though we didn't do it in a fancy London church we did it inside that church in Sheperdsville you know the one"
"Yeah the one by the train bridge you told me that before" Eric laughed slightly "and the train whistle blewe right before she started to walk down the aisle"
"Haha, that's right son! Thank God it didn't blow while we said our vows" they laugh, and meanwhile Clair is pacing back and forth just as nervous as Eric
"What if he chickens out?" She says aloud to herself "what if I am not the one? What if-"
"No more what ifs!" Her mom Amanda yells "I know you're nervous but saying what if won't help! I been through this, I know it's difficult" Amanda had been married before, but got divorced after discovering her husband cheating on her. Luckily she had recently found a nice man in London who she had dated for months
"But...what if he does what Dad did-" Clair tries to say before Eric's mom Jane shushes her
"I didn't raise my boy that way" She smiles "Dean would never even think of that, and neither would Eric"
"You know what? You're right" Clair smiles "I am ready let's do this!" She would head to the aisle entrance watching her little cousin Bret and Eric's cousin Diane play ring bearer and flower girl respectively. Then "Here comes the bride" starts playing as Clair walks down the aisle to where Eric and a preacher are waiting. To Eric she was the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on. The two said thier vows, telling each other that they would never leave each other till death do they part, and kissed as husband and wife.
3 days later, they are in a limo heading to the awards show in New York, having gone through a lot to get home to America. Eeic had been nominated for Linebacker of the Year for the DSFL and they were holding in hope that he gets it.
"Man if I'd known how hard it was to transfer a marriage license I'd would have done it in Kentucky" Clair sighs
"It was worth it honey" Eric smiles "We had a gorgeous wedding and now can start focusing on the future"
"You're right dear" Clair smiles as they reach the building where it will take place. They are escorted to the back by some security to a private room where they can wait to be seated.
"Huh looks like the DSFL is up first." Eric notes "Linebacker of the Year is the 4th award shown"
"I really hope you win it" Clair sighs
"Its just an honor to be nominated" Eric smiles "no matter what I am proud of that" A bit later they are brought to thier VIP seats and the awards show starts off with Punter of the Year. When one of Eric's best friends on the team Datsum Phastbawls won the award he was one of the ones applauding the loudest. He was then slightly disappointed in Datsum not winning Kicker of the Year, but shrugged it off.
After Defensive Linemen of the year, Linebacker of the Year was next.
"The next award is Linebacker of the Year for the DSFL" Commissioner Bex says. "The nominees are...Eric Richards of the London Royals.." Eric smiles and waves at the crowd "Dex Kennedy of the Minnesota Grey Ducks, Hingle Mcringleberry of the Dallas Birddogs, Blade McCoy of the Dallas Birddogs, and Jack Banks of the Norfolk Seawolves. And the winner is...Eric Richards of the London Royals!"
"That's ok its just good to-holy crap I won!" Eric says surprised before he recovers and hugs Clair before heading to the podium and receiving the award. "Ummm i really didn't really prepare a big speech cause i was so nervous, but i would like to thank my coaches at both the University of Kentucky and London. I'd also like to thank my teammates, guys like Greedy Sly, Datsum Phastbawls, Donatello, Jack and others. I'd like to thank my wife Clair who i just married 3 days ago!" Clair is in tears as she waves.
"I'd like to thank my parents Dean and Jane, and I'd like to thank the Lord above. This is one of the greatest weeks of my life!" He tears up a bit as he heads back to his seat, the rest of the show becoming a blur as he thinks about the award he just won. After the show he puts the award on his mantle along with his All-American trophy, definitely ready for the draft the next day.
