The season has come to a close, and we’re about to bring in our next group of Ducklings, so I feel like it’s as good a time as any to announce the winners of the player voted Minnesota Grey Ducks team awards. And yes, this was posted in the locker room already. And yes, I’m definitely just posting it here as well, so that I can grab some money.
Offensive Player of the Year - James Vermillion - Running Back
Vermillion was a force to be reckoned with this season, along with his other half Mike Rotchburns, who was on the ballot as well. Vermillion led us to the 2nd most potent rushing attack in the entire DSFL. He racked up 1134 yards which was 4th in the league, and he did it on 5.2 yards per carry, which was ranked first among DSFL running backs with over 100 carries. We can only hope that he is able to stick around for another year to really show us what he can do when he's capped! Congrats man.
Defensive Player of the Year - Rashad Hilliard - Cornerback
Hilliard was able to follow up his stunning rookie season (in which he snagged SEVEN interceptions) with another fantastic one. His stat line this season was eye popping with 16 passes defended (2nd in the league), 2 interceptions, 2 fumbles recovered and two forced, a TFL, and 74 tackles. He was the leader of the defense and really came into his own as a user as well, becoming our primary sim tester this season and landing himself a spot in our war room. He should be on the ballot for an award or two in the DSFL awards show tomorrow night, so make sure to watch the show!
Most Improved Player - Oliver Sloan - Safety
Sloan made drastic improvements across the board this season. This year he improved his tackle count by nearly 50 (enough to move him into the top 20 in the league) and snagged one more pick than he did last year. On the field he really stepped up and became one of the leaders of the defense. This was our closest vote, with running back Mike Rotchburns coming in a close second, so shout out to him as well!
Locker Room Leader - CB James Gath
Whether it was posting peen in the locker room, creating new sim test review software for us, or just hanging out in the locker room while he's at work making everyone laugh, beefstu was one of the biggest leaders this team had. We give him a lot of shit, saying how many other people we could've taken with our pick, but he was 100% the right choice and we don't regret it at all. Hopefully he gets to stick around for at least one more season with us, because this locker room wouldn't be as much fun without him!
