In this league, it's not often that you see player trades happen and there is one main reason for that: People tend to get drafted and fall in love with the locker room that they are in, therefore never leaving until they retire. Hell in our case, we have folks that have retired and still reside right in the same locker room of their former player, which I think says something about the culture in Yellowknife.
However, recently a trade went down between the Wraiths and Arizona that at one point seemed absolutely unfathomable. The Wraiths traded a 2 time OPOTY and 1 time MVP, Mathias Hanyadi to the Outlaws in exchange for a young offensive lineman who has been an absolute stud since entering the league. There are folks in each camp that love this trade and others that think it was crazy, but that's not what I am here to discuss. What I am here to discuss is the impact that @CLG Rampage left on the Wraiths locker room and why no matter where he is, he will always be a Wraiths legend!
During the S18 draft, one year before I became the Co-Gm in Yellowknife, Shady and BigRed drafted Hanyadi in the 2nd round with the 17th overall pick as the third RB off the board. To say this became bulletin board material for Mathias is an understatement. Frustrated that he fell that far, CLG took this to heart and made sure he would out-earn his competition on the way to a HoF caliber career and that's exactly what he did both on the field and off. Mathias Hanyadi became a name that was synonymous with the word "greatness" in this league, along the way proving that hard work did pay off when you're in the right system!
For multiple seasons, Hanyadi became the face of the Wraiths and the first person you thought of when you mentioned Yellowknife, rightfully so might I add. Through 90 games with YK, Mathias Hanyadi amassed:
@Skyline: "He ran so I could catch passes"
@BaconBrother: “That bastard could score! Had the pleasure of sharing the locker room with him since we got both drafted. One of the realest people out there, glad we won the big one together and will miss him and his cooking!"
@ZootTX: "I would say he was a gentleman, but we all know that's a lie and thanks for leaving us with that diva, Skyline. In all seriousness, he seemed like a cool guy even though I didn't interact with him much. I'm sad to see him leave, but I think everyone in the trade got what they wanted so that's a win and I hope he gets a lot of stats unless they are playing us."
@HENDRIX: "He's a bring your lunch pail to work type of guy, a grinder with deceptive speed. Someone you would love your daughter to date."
@PMoney: "A true Wraith now and forever. You were a massive part of the team when I joined and Hanyadi has probably been the best player in the league since then. It was a pleasure to be on the team with you and thank you for everything you did for us, you’ll always have a home here. We wish you all the luck in the world in Arizona."
@shadyshoelace: "Ever since the S17 DSFL draft (all the way back in September 2019!) when I drafted Mathias Hanyadi to San Antonio, and then the S18 NSFL draft when we brought him to Yellowknife, CLG been a staple of my experience in the league. We've shared a lot of great moments in the league, and some rough ones too - like four consecutive Ultimus losses - but through it all, CLG has been an incredible teammate and someone I'm proud to call a friend. Hanyadi is forever a Wraiths legend, and I'm excited to see what the rest of his Hall of Fame career has in store for him."
In conclusion, I will say this: "I have argued with CLG, loved CLG, been annoyed by CLG, and in the end I wouldn't change a thing! Hanyadi made the Wraiths better, but CLG made us all better by just being himself! You're a legend around these parts and I appreciate everything you ever did for this team! You're gone from our lineup, but not from this organization that you played a huge role in bringing to prominence. Lastly, when you're ready to hang up those pads bring your ass home so that you can retire the way that you're supposed to: As a
