Wow guys, I can’t believe we’re already on our 20th game review… This has been amazing, and I’ve had tons of fun writing to nobody but the media graders to read. For this special game, I went and handpicked a really fun game, I think you guys will enjoy it. I had my teammates help me select one, and it was between 3 of these games I had in the early eras, S2-S3. A quick note, before we get in to the actual games, I wanted to give myself a shoutout for reaching over 50 million in ISFL dollars. We are halfway to my goal of 100 million before the draft, and I really do think it’s doable considering all this media I’m putting out. Hoping some ISFL teams notice, and maybe, just maybe, I could get drafted in the first round? I know me being an OL has some negative impact on my player and where he goes in the draft, considering OL aren’t valued as highly, but I suggest any teams to reach out to me and find out if I’m open to bringing my talents to another position. All this talk about a new sim and abilities and stuff has got me very excited for the future.
Now, enough talking about me, let’s go straight into the big game of the day. The Wraiths travel to San Jose, week 2, season 3. 2 mediocre teams playing each other, and at the end of the day, neither of these teams are serious contenders, but it’s still fun to see them duel it out. When 2 teams of an equal skill level play, whether that be good or bad, it’s often more close than not. That’s exactly the case in today’s matchup. It’s going to be a good one, ladies and gentlemen, so grab onto your seats.
The game opens with San Jose kicking the ball off. Garden takes it out of the endzone but only can return it 27 yards. After a stuffed run by Nuck, the Wraiths abandon the run and throw 2 straight times, the first pass going for 4, and the 2nd pass falling incomplete. They have to punt after going 3 and out. We get our first look at the San Jose offense, which isn’t that great. That’s evidenced on 2 straight runs only getting 3 yards. On a 3rd and 7, the Wraiths send an all out blitz and manage to sack Hunt for 6 yards, forcing a punt. After a dropped pass and a stuffed run, it’s 3rd and 9, and our 3rd consecutive 3 and out is threatening to occur. Orosz, on his own 41 yard line, drops back, and completes an out route to West for 16 yards to keep the chains moving. However, after a good 5 yard rush, an inaccurate pass would make it 3rd and 5. Brill read the screen pass so well and tackles Nuck after he can only get 1 yard, and the Wraiths still have to punt. A false start penalty sets the Cats back to 1st and 15, but that’s no problem for Hunt, who fires back to back 9 yard passes for a first down. The drive won’t go any further than that, and a dropped pass on 3rd and 5 forces the 4th punt of the game. On the punt return, Lavelle evades a blocker and manages to go all the way… oh wait, the punter trips him up at the 8 yard line, The Wraiths now start from the SJS 8 yard line. On 2nd and goal, Nuck runs in for what appears to be a touchdown, but after further review he was apparently tackled at the 1. On the next play, a wide open fade is dropped. Wraiths have to kick a FG, and a great goal line stand by the San Jose defense. San Jose starts out electric on their next drive, with 3 consecutive complete passes totaling 21 yards. However, a blown up pitch play sets them back to 3rd and 8. A long pass down the sideline is broken up by Lavelle to save the first down. San Jose punts back with 3 minutes to go in the quarter. Back to back drops kill the drive and the Wraiths have to punt. San Jose manages to get 2 first downs on their next drive, but a sack making it 2nd and 16 proved too much to overcome. They punt with the first play in the 2nd quarter. On a 3rd and 9 for the Wraiths, a SJS penalty gifts them a 3rd and 4. But Lewith saves the day with a sack and forces the Wraiths to punt. On a 2nd and 9, Hunter’s pass is intercepted and is ran back 27 yards, getting tackled at the 1 yard line. Nuck scores a TD on the very next play however, and YKW goes up 9-0 (XP missed) with 13 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. SJS goes 3 and out, and so do the Wraiths, giving San Jose the ball back. SJS goes on a long drive, with 2 3rd down conversions and 4 first downs, and an awesome balance of run and pass, and the big 24 yard bomb on 3rd and 3, setting them up for an easy TD. The score is now 9-7. Wraiths go 3 and out after a sack and a penalty prove too insurmountable. On a 3rd and 8, Hunter goes deep for 29 yards. On a 3rd and 6, Hunter throws a comeback route for a first down. On a 2nd and 10, Hunter throws a slant that breaks open for a 22 yard gain. On a 2nd and goal at the 10, Hunter throws another dot, but this time the receiver gets tackled at the YKW 2 yard line, and SJS has to quickly snap the ball to kick a FG. SJS goes up 10-9 going into half.
A penalty and a sack are too much to handle for the Cats on their first drive of the half as they go 3 and out. A terrible punt and great return completely flips the field position, and YKW starts on the SJS 26. 3 plays later Orosz throws a 13 yard fade in the endzone for a TD. The 2nd XP of the game is missed, and that might be costly in the future. It’d be a shame if YKW lost by 1 point… Nevertheless, they go up 15-0. SJS and Wraiths both go 3 and out, and on the next drive, SJS somehow gets a first down before immediately punting right after the drive stalls out. Wraiths go 3 and out after a Miller sack, and SJS goes 3 and out also. 0 offense right now, On the first play of the Wraiths next drive, Orosz goes deep to Canton, who hauls it in, but while running, Canton pops the ball out from behind and San Jose recovers. This is what they needed, as a couple of good rushes set them up in optimal field position, and they end up kicking a Fg, making it 15-13 to open up the 4th quarter. YKW starts their drive off well, with 3 first downs and a 3rd down conversion. Penalties end up making it 3rd and 31, and the Wraiths have to punt after failing to convert there. SJS only gets 1 yard on a 6 series penalty, getting bailed out by an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. With 7 and a half left, down 2, they punt back, An offsides penalty on 3rd and 10 makes it 3rd and 5 for the Wraiths on the next drive. But the run only goes for 3 yards and they kick a FG to go up 18-13 with 5 minutes to go. SJS starts off by getting to 4th and 2 already. Thankfully, Diaz gets just enough on that run that they get the first down. SJS offense looks methodical, running and passing, chewing up clock, converting 3rd downs and moving the sticks. They convert on a 3rd and 6 with another run! Now with 1 minute left, they are at the YKW 33 yard line. They need a TD. 2 incomplete passes later it’s 3rd and 5. A pass to Bottles gets bottled up for only 3 yards, and now it’s 4th and 2 from the YKW 30, with 37 seconds left. They snap the ball, and the entire defense accepts them to go short, but instead, Hunter chucks it up for Weston, who comes down with it in the endzone with 0 second showing on the clock! SJS WINS!! 19-18!
Wow, what a game! Last second TD, and those missed XPs really killed the team there.
